The 2006 (18th annual) World Music Awards were held in London, England and hosted by actress and vocalist Lindsay Lohan on 15 November 2006. Performances included a Thriller recreation by Chris Brown and a children's chorus rendition of "We Are the World" with Michael Jackson. This was Jackson's final live performance (other than Michael Jackson's This Is It). Other performers included Andrea Bocelli, Beyoncé, Bob Sinclar, Dima Bilan, Elissa, Enya, Faithless, Katie Melua, Nelly Furtado, Rihanna, Tokio Hotel, and Suleman Mirza.
Presenters included Pamela Anderson, Natalie Imbruglia, Donatella Versace, Sugababes, Nicole Richie, Denise Richards and Brian McFadden.
The World Music Awards ceremony was televised in 160 countries including the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, Southeast Asia, China, Africa and the Middle East. In the United Kingdom it was broadcast on Channel 4 on 23 November 2006. In the U.S., ABC is the traditional home of the World Music Awards, but in recent years they have moved to MyNetworkTV[citation needed], which rebroadcast the 2006 show on 1 July 2009, due to that show's tributes to the recently deceased Michael Jackson.
The Diamond Award honors those recording-artists who have sold over 100 million albums during their career. Past recipients include Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Rod Stewart and Bon Jovi. This year's recipient was Michael Jackson. His most popular album, "Thriller" has sold more than 104 million copies worldwide since its release in 1982 - making it the best-selling album of all time.

I have been to Bad Tour and twice to the History tour in the Netherlands. He was on his stage lift only about 1 meter away from me. I screamed so hard and all my friends screamed: Michael I love you, we all cried. I still get goose bumps thinking about this moment.

Had to come here and cleanse myself after the 2022 AMAs joke of a 'tribute'. I'm so glad he got love like this while he was alive despite all the trials and hostility. I think its unfathomable to people that someone so wealthy, talented and famous could be the real deal, and he continues to suffer the cost of just being too pure of heart for this reality. Never mind, he is celebrated in the hearts of those with enough wisdom to see through the character assassination.

Would any artist of any generation get this kind of reaction? I mean seriously? We’ve had so many huge names over the years.... but none of them would get this reaction. It’s insane. All he did was walk to the bottom of the stage and people were losing their shit. Man. A supernova. Once in a lifetime. The undisputed greatest of all time. I just hope he knew how loved and adored he was and remains. RIP MJ.

You can tell he tried to sing but the crowd was so loud he couldn’t hear himself. Even when he tries to sing a few lines anyway you barely hear him even with the microphone.
I read an article from journalist Charles Thompson (famous for defending MJ & exposing lies reported in the media) who was up front that night. He said MJ kept looking over at the mixing desk I guess trying to signal them to turn up his headset so he could perform. He said it was an unbelievable reception of MJ and all you could hear was a little of the original playback on the speaker system and the crowd, he saw fans fainting and being pulled pulled from the crowd and rushed away in wheelchairs (normal for MJ shows!), other celebrities performing that night were rushed off the stage by the crowd chanting repeatedly for Michael...
Just his presence is so powerful he didn’t need to perform, though! He made the biggest macho men, thugs and celebrities freeze up and/or act like “teenage fan girls.”
I’ve been a Moonwalker since I first can remember hearing MJ in ‘87 at 2yrs old and I can only imagine what they’re probably feeling! I would’ve gone crazy just knowing he was in the same building as me and just a glimpse of him in person would’ve made my dreams come true! Probably would’ve been one of the fainters, too! ❤️👑🌎

I met him in 85 in Orlando. Still one of the most exciting things in my life. At the time he was 26 and so was I. He was at a theme park here. He was so kind to me. He signed my ticket and let me kiss him on the cheek. A year before that we had seen the Victory Tour in Miami. I was lucky enough to be in the front row. I shed tears when he left this planet. There will never be another MJ. ❤️
