  • @joshporter5205
    @joshporter5205 6 лет назад +17

    The impression I get of this song (within the context of the whole album) is that it is in some ways about not so much when grief begins to truly ebb, but the point at which one realizes that grief isn't forever despite loss being forever and the space left empty is forever. I've lost a lot of people close to me in my life, including losing my mother at a young age, and this album is probably the most harrowing of any I have ever heard. I've spent the last few months listening to it quite a lot because it is flat out amazing but also because I find it really helps put me into the head space I need to be in to make art.

    After listening to the whole album I can say that this is one of the most emotional albums I have heard in a long time. Not since Black Star by David Bowie has an album made me feel such raw emotions especially with the track Magneto which is incredibly emotional due to the lyrics being so deep to the passing of Nick Cave's son. I would 100% recommend anyone who loves to listen to deep emotional stuff to check this masterpiece out.

      To Fritzi, Push the Sky Away is great. I saw the band on tour for that album in 2014 in Philadelphia. What a great album. To Diego Ojeda, I've never heard of Peter Hammill. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll go look him up right now. I have to throw Tom Waits' name into the mix of deep, emotional songwriters. And Springsteen. If you disagree about that last one, check out the Losin' Kind, Highway Patrolmen, The Klansman (a great rocker tune, with some deep lyrics), or Stray Bullet. To everyone, I'm going to see Nick Cave & TBS tonight in Brooklyn. Can't wait. That he can write The Kindness of Strangers, The Curse of Millhaven, Into My Arms, and Girl in Amber are all testaments to his songwriting ability. I can only imagine what he and Susie went through when Arthur fell off the cliff, over three years ago now. It's no secret that Nick Cave is a friend of Bill, and as a fellow friend I can't possibly imagine what it must have been like to lose your son, knowing he was high.

      A skeleton tree is just a tree with no leaves in Autumn or Winter. Isn't it obvious? Great writing is often simple, but people read far too much into the basic word image. It seems like the term should have been around forever if it was so straightforward, but again that is the gift of a great writer. Nick apparently came up with the term "kill hand" when he wrote The Mercy Seat, just another random example, it seems like he got it from The Old Testament, but he just made it up.

Their albums have a smattering of decent songs on them, but as full albums, they’re kinda lacking (though I did think that Songs Of Innocence was far better than the hate that it got for its release methodology suggested).

    Distant Sky and this are like a suitably darker version of the final two songs on Underworld's Barbara Barbara We Face A Shining Future. Some amazing music has come out this year, too bad this was so dearly bought.

    Like a cross between Roger Waters and Leonard Cohen, if you took that both ways.

    I called out, I called out
    Right across the sea
    But the echo comes back empty

    Actually in my country (France), we're heading, I'm afraid, towards a Civil War, all ingredients are there, but at the moment in my car I'm listenning that piece so called Skeleton Tree, and I enjoyed it just before the Chaos.....
