Loved the movie. BUt I am slightly biased. They shot on and recieved support from the museumship «D/S Hestmanden» which I am very fond of. She is a survivor of two world wars and still sails in the summer. Those of us in the Norwegian museumship community gets a big giggle when She comes on screen. The film felt a bit «meh» though. The fates /treatment afterwards of what we call «the war sailors» is still a topic that draws controversy.
Not a movie but Generation War is overrated. As for movies Lone Survivor, Imitation Game, 1955 Dunkirk, 2022 All Quiet on the Western Front and Sink the Bismarck, just to name a few. On your comment of Zulu Dawn I think one of the reasons it doesn't grab is because we know all these men are going to die as well there are too many characters are spread out while in Zulu it's compact.
