    Lendl lacked the last bit of punch at that time. In the last years of his career he was playing under constant pain due to chronic back problems that forced him to retire soon thereafter. Following his retirement he couldn't play tennis for many, many years. How nice it was to see him debut on the Champions Tour in 2010. Lendl influenced and shaped modern Tennis more than any other player.

      @@doctornov7 naa borg was nothing like modern tennis. yea he palyed topspin and thats it.
      lendl played agressive, a good balance between safe and forcing the point and a lot faster.
      he was also much better athlete, better coordination, borg was borderline to cringe in that regard.
      ledl was defently one if not the first modern tennis athlete not just player

    Amazing to Sampras win the US Open in 1990 with his trusty 85 and in 2002, again with his trusty 85.

    Huge respect to Lendl as a 34yo veteran against the top fit no.1 Sampras.. Lendl was almost 2 generation before sampras .. competing w McEnroe & Connors in the early 80s , then with the Wilander , Edberg & Becker in the late 80s. Even the younger generation in the late 80s began to decline in 1994.

    • @Smudgeroon74
      @Smudgeroon74 Год назад +1

      Some of the top players who became competitive in the mid 1980's did begin fading by 1994 which is true, Stefan Edberg being 1, Henri Leconte aswell, and Miroslav Mecir but again players such as Andre Agassi, Boris Becker and Sergei Brugera were still going relatively strong.

    Lendl did not normally have tape on his hands/fingers. I don't know why he's wearing it, or why it's on the left hand. He could have injured his hand and needed support, but it does seem strange to me. Lendl is a US citizen and has been for many years. He applied a long time ago and became a citizen. Lendl was/is pretty awesome. He's my favorite. I have two of his rackets to, but not the one he's using now. I don't know what that thing is

  • @opencurtin
    @opencurtin 4 года назад +1

    I was always fascinating why Lendl played with that tiny Adidas Adidas GTX Pro-T for all of the 80s when he’d have got more power with the bigger head rackets that were available that time , he may have even won Wimbledon if he had changed mid 80s but he must have really liked playing with it ..

    • @MrBjorn6
      @MrBjorn6 4 года назад +2

      He moved to graphite extremely early compared to McEnroe and Connors. Don't think different racket would of helped him win Wimbledon.

    • @kidpagronprimsank05
      @kidpagronprimsank05 4 года назад +4

      Maybe about the feeling. Federer took until 2015 to change to bigger head. Even Del Porto still struck with old Wilson k factor model until supplies ran out, forcing him to change. Connors took almost 20 years to totally changed from Wilson t2000 to graphite.

    I like heavy racket and it's hard to play it with a forehand. But I found it easy now when I do a Sampras & Lendl forehand. My backhand is a Djokovic. My racket is Federer's.

      Lendl did not play slow. Lendl was the product of his generation, who played faster than the players of the 70 and slower than those of the 90. Everyone is now accustomed to players who hit the ball with a cannon, but they forgot that old tennis where to beat the rival one point, you had to prepare the ground of little to take your rival to where you wanted. That's why I liked tennis so much at the time. That's why today's tennis disgusts me.

      Well, Federer in the time of Sampras would have been slower, and in Leaver's time, I will not tell you. Each new generation surpasses the last generation. It all boils down to the player's physical training, technology and talent. Or do you think that Borg in the 70 would not have beaten Federer? Never compare players from different eras because it is not fair, and it is not honest either.

    • @meshalsinnen5917

      Sampras a worse athlete than Federer? Haha what? Until Federer got on the PEDs it wasnt even close. Compare a young Sampras to a young Federer, it's pretty clear who the better natural athlete was, by some distance.
