THANKS ALOT for posting this man !!! I broke my radiator and was able to change the radiator myself thanks to your video. Saved me about 400 dollars =)
Just did a radiator replacement in my '99 Volvo S80. Went exactly as you described. Thanks for the great video. Saved me some serious cash. Much appreciated!
Dan DiFonzo Thank you for the inspirational reply. Its messeges like this that make me keep goin, even when its as hard as it is right now to get anywhere om RUclips... dont forget to Sub😉
doing this today, 2004 V70 turbo, intercooler adds more clutter and hoses. There are no videos for mine, lots of x90 radiators but no V70 turbos. Saw your video before I started and ordered new tranny coolant seals and new green clips with the radiator. Removed my rad out the bottom too. new one is ready to go in.
Ok, getting ready to change the radiator with your instructions, it’s a major life and money saver like I mentioned. Last year my radiator cracked, we took it to a mechanic that we thought we trusted, the guy we bought our Volvo from. It cost us over $600, and a little over a year later it went to shit. For one thing, he didn’t replace the upper and lower hoses, the lover hose went to shit, he even over torqued the hose clamp messing up the port. Then as I looked at the radiator, he obviously put in a used cheap ass radiator, and with all this costing us over $600. So after it went bad again, I’ve changed the hoses, the old ones were both shot and bulging, they were the originals. Now I finally was able to afford a radiator, found a good deal for a good one at rockauto.com, for $100. I checked it out and it’s way better than the one the mechanic put in, he seriously put in a bad radiator. I researched the model radiator I bought and it all has high marks, and with my budget it was affordable. I’ve watched this video many times burning it in my head, now I’m getting ready to get to work. This is saving me hundreds of dollars, I’m not a mechanic but I’ve worked on many of my cars over the years, I’ve swapped radiators before, but never on a Volvo, I was stressed trying to figure it out, then I found this video and it seriously made my year, thanks again, I’ll post how the swap went when I’m done, lol
Thanks for this. Got a big road trip planned this weekend and the old girl is dripping coolant at front centre of front end. Not sure anything else is up there except the rad. Really helpful video.
I’ve watched this video a few times for studying how to replace my radiator, just got a new radiator, looking forward to replacing it in a day or 2, this video is a life and money saver, Awesome
Thank you for uploading this video , but to help future moneysavers i would say that the most difficult part is removing and installing the new , i couldnt remove the cooling line so i have to remove the old and install the new in diagonal , a real pain in the ass !!! , it took me six hours without filming but i saved 300 dollars .Thats all that matters !!!
The middle plastic where you have to sandwich in between the condenser and radiator is a pain, i had to use duct tape to hold it in place and remove it afterward
I have a 2003 S80 2.9 non turbo, and with the help of your video was able to get the whole thing tore down while I'm awaiting my parts to come in. BUT, I dunno if this is something different about the 03 model, but in my very frustrating time trying to wiggle the rad out, another, rather large shroud thingy just fell out with it. I didn't see anything like that in your video. It looks like a kind of half shroud with weather stripping all around it. I just have no idea where exactly it came from. Maybe in front of the condenser? I had a lil trouble keeping the condenser held up where it goes. I used a small floor jack like you did, but it didn't wanna stay on top of it...I hope I didn't mess it up by letting it hang a few times when it fell off the jack. Silly me for not noticing it but do you or anyone else know what I'm talking about? It's not the thin plastic piece that goes around the rad and condenser. It's hard to explain, wish I could send a pic. I haven't been able to find it on ANY parts diagrams or other websites. I'm perplexed as hell. (and feel real dumb that I didn't see where it came from when it fell out the bottom.) about half of it is solid, as in, not a wide open circle....it seems almost like it would restrict half of the air flow. Maybe it directs more air to the fan? I just don't know. My car always ran at perfect temp with it in there. I'm only having to do this because I hit a large piece of concrete protruding up through a moron's shitty drive way. It bent the condenser real good too, but that didn't break...just bent pretty bad. If you or anyone knows what and where this thing goes, please help. Sorry for the novel, but my best guess is that it goes in front of the condenser....just didn't look at it close enough first. thanks!
@@ArchersGearheadGarage I'm pretty sure this car was hit from the front by the prev owner. So who knows what they did when fixing it. Unless I can figure it out for sure, maybe I'll just leave it out and see what happens. I don't see it anywhere in your vid. BTW, that valley pan isn't even on my car....probably got left out by the place who fixed it after an accident. Oy Vey! Well thanks for the quick reply :) And in any case, your vid was immensely helpful. I'll let you know what happens after I finish this up in a week or so. (Parts on order)
OK, got the new rad in and discovered that the shroud in question goes in front of the condenser. It's supposed to be held in place by 2 speed-nuts that weren't there, so it just fell out. Shoddy previous repairs from a former accident. Getting that radiator in there was a sumbitch with that bent condenser, but we (my gf helped, holding things in place..) succeeded. Thanks again!
@@jvincent1446 Hi. I think I am having the same problem. Is the shroud Volvo part # 8620082, called an air guide? Google search on Volvo 8620082 will bring up a picture.
I couldn't take the radiator out from the bottom on the passenger side. Mine is a 2.8 T6 from 1999 and the data cables and a pipe were blocking the way. I could not lift the radiator over the inlets of the condenser. I managed to take out the radiator and condenser together from the top at the (not UK) drivers side after I folded away a big air hose I don't see in this video. My condenser has two big inlets on either side that obstruct the radiator.
@@ricardoramos3095 oh man that was 6 years ago... I do know that the air filter pipes and turbo hoses all have to go. If it has an automatic transmission make sure you have the hose clamps and rings in stock for the transmission fluid pipes. If one breaks the engine cannot start.
GREAT VIDEO,SHOWS WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO!!! HAVE TO DO A RADIATOR FOR SOMEONE TODAY. IM THINKING I MAY TRY AND PURCHASE CLIPS AHEAD OF TIME,JUST IN CASE. IF THEY R AVAILABLE.
nice. I was able to remove my radiator from the top but trust me it aint easy... turning the radiator 90degrees and what not..,. not fun compared to other cars.

Well, 90 minutes and job is done. . No clips broke, a bit fun twisting it beyond ac line but it worked. Thank you.
Great video man, I forgot where that middle plastic shroud was suppose to be installed and voila I found your video. Thumbs up!!!.

Quick question...
How did you put on the green replacement clip. Mine broke off at the bottom T line like yours did. It won't slide straight on...🤔
you have to slide it past the ridge on the line so that the locking tabs are below the ridge

I wish the turbo'd version was this easy. Oh my god. Getting it in and out is a pain in the pee pee. Making all the connections is easy.
How does the retainer clip for the transmission line go in?
it goes over the end of the line

Trans Cooling Hose Oil Cooler Line Retainer Holder
Awesome man, thanks!
Hey is it possible you remember the part number on the transmission clips aka the oil cooler connectors? I broke 1 also
Yeah Yeah volvo part# 9485149
What clips did you get? No clips will fit on mine I might get a whole new line
volvo part# 9485149
On a 2005 xc90, the fan is a little too fat to get past the intake manifold. Anyone seen this?

Great video bud. Love the accent imma definitely drop a follow. Do more volvo videos this one was tits
Where did you order the plastic clip that broke. I Need to order also
Amazon
@@ArchersGearheadGarage thanks..
Hey where did ya get the clips? I gotta do my radiator and I wanna get the clips ahead of time
right off of amazon
What’s the name of it
What can u do if u brake the clip and can't get the hose out
Use a pick to remove the remaining clip pieces and yank er out
What are then name of the plastic clips
Would this be any different with a 2004 Volvo S80 2.9 twin charged?
Yes
@@ArchersGearheadGarage Yes it’s the same taking it apart so I could use this video or yes it’s different so I couldn’t? I’m sorry man
Sry, I'd have to assume it's different but u could try what I did in this video to get u going. It's probably similar, just not the same
Need a volume warning for your air socket but good video
You're probably right, ill keep that in mind on the next one.
Good video however it would have been nice to show how to replace the cooler lines.
Unfortunately I didn't need to...
did you have to put new radiator in thru bottom?
Im sure you can go through the top but it would be more difficult
I would do this myself but I don't have any tools to do it do you know how much it would cost to replace a radiator?
+Eddie Dubitsky about $300
My volvo S 80 has a leaking atf cooler. Is it part of the radiator?
William Chanza no it is not
how much antifreeze is needed to fill the radiator?
Sorry. I cant remember... if u buy concentrate coolant one 4L or 1gallon bottle should do it with 50/50mix with water
Do I need to disconnect the battery before start the removal?
No. But u can if it makes u feel more safe
My clip broke too and my dip stick is broken and it is now stuck 😭😭
Is replacing the radiator for the turbo s80 the same procedure?
+Darrien Richardson i would imagine so. May very slightly
Archer69er thanks for the fast response. Getting a 2001 S80 T6 tomorrow just has a crack in the radiator, for 1700 good deal?

Sí, los puntos difíciles son difíciles. No es raro tener que eliminar otras cosas para obtener las autorizaciones necesarias. ¡Buena suerte!
That's an AC line. Not a power steering line.
Are you SHOWING people, or TELLING people how to do it ? ...Because it seems like the pan just MAGICALLY came off by itself.
