Definitely a lucky daughter. So sweet that you made her something. I loved Wednesday and have been watching a lot of creations for different items in the series. That bag is stunning though! And that's a cool idea to weigh down the inside layer. I haven't seen anyone do that yet.
Can you imagine the daughter at school… “Where did you get that bag?” “ Oh this was made by my Daddy “ ( this ladies and gentlemen is how you cast shade on every other father in your children’s school)
Oh my goodness. I froze the screen to look at her bag. I wish I had one for my. Great Granddaughter. It is fabulous. So glad someone else seen it and found it amazing looking.
I love watching your channel ive got a Grand Daughter coming soon , first in the family , maybe in several years ill be able to produce something like that for her again great job
Great job. Love vids and content. Never made anything. But repaired lot of leather on farm. Always amazed at detail in saddles. Can't wait til next project. You and your family have Merry Christmas.
you can always just buy a randoseru if you dont have the skill to make something like this, i as a adult have one that fits me its very similar. It also fits my laptop which is very nice and its hard enough that i store many electronics in it. but i loved this video i find these relaxing.
I've avoided bags with gussets like this because I'm always afraid my hole count will be off and I'll screw it up. What method do you use to assure they're all going to match up? Great work!
Very nice work! I love that knife. Using a craft knife is a little more challenging for me to hold straight. That wood handle has got to be a lot more substantial and easier to direct.
@@RoadAgentLeather @ 2:20 and on for cutting out the major pieces. After some hand surgeries, a craft knife or X-acto just isn't enough for me to hold onto. I've tried using a skiving knife for the long cuts but holding it upright and perpendicular to the leather can get a little wiggly too.
I actually think a couple different bags were used on the show. There are times when it's a smaller structured bag and others where it's bulkier with more suppleness. I honestly believe they were handmade by a craftsman and not a company. Cambridge Satchel did say they did not make the bag.
I love your version of the bag! It's perfect. What size are the buckles you have used? And why did you secure the straps around the ring with a book screw instead of a rivet?
Thanks! The straps are 3/4" wide. So I used center bar buckles of appropriate width. They're not the same as the "screen" version (even after an extensive search). I was making this as a gift for my daughter; so was guessing on the length of the shoulder straps. I made them long and wanted to be able to easily shorten them if needed. So I used a removable screw instead of a rivet.
I have a EDC bag, nothing special. it's a real common sling bag. Its available everywhere online but the materials just crap. Once it gets worn the lining peels out and you can see through it. I mean it's real thin. I would love to have one made of leather if I can find one. Or even a decent canvas.
Real nice job. I'm surprised the 26 sewed so well when it's not threaded correctly. You missed threading the needle bar before going through the needle. I've missed a guide before and the machine wasn't happy about it.
lol. Thanks. I know . . . didn't realize until I went to my next work piece and was changing thread color. I was like "did that just happen, or has it been like that the whole time?"
Thanks! Not to a mirror finish. I think the wax and general softness of this leather prevents it from burnishing like veg-tan. But yes, it did burnish good enough.
hi, thank you for this tutorial. I just ran into your channel and have many questions since I have purchased some leather and have yet to make anything because I don't have a skiver yet. but I see you are using a different tool hopefully more affordable than the skiver I was eyeballing:). could you tell me the name of it and where I might get one? Also the glue you are using, please let me know what that is as well it would be soooo helpful. I realize that you are hand stitching but could it be done by machine or be too thick? Thank you in advance for all your help.
hello i just stumble onto your site very nice bag could you suggest a good place to buy similar hardware i live in canada and it's hard to find something big and sturdy as well that it has a great finishes on it thank you for the video c.noel canada
Thanks, that's nice bit of reverse engineering, I'll have to make one for one of my granddaughters (which means they'll all want one, better fire up the assembly line).
just stumbled across this video. i enjoyed it very much and being a leather worker by trade, i sometimes watch tutorial videos to see how other folks go about it. what endeared me to you was, at the beginning of your video discussing leather choice, the flicker of consternation on your face at translating 2.25mm thickness to 5-6oz leather. HA! i can NEVER understand the utterly useless system folks in america use to determine thickness. it's completely pointless. how thick is that 2" x 4"? well, it's about 27-28oz.
My understanding is that the "ounces" measurement is how much one square foot of a given piece of leather would weigh. So the thicker the leather, the more ounces it is. Admittedly an archaic system (kinda like "gauge"), but that's what we're stuck with.
Hi. As mentioned, I didn't use a pattern for this. Just went off screenshots. However, the folks over at Babylon Leather (who have sponsored a previous video of mine) have a pattern that looks exactly like it: "Babylon Pattern Leather Working Template AAB-607."
Two comments and one question. Number one, lucky daughter. Number two, if there is a second season, they can let her pack a pistol and have you make her a shoulder holster. Of course it will have to be filmed in Texas. The question, where can I find a set of the corner cutters you use? Fine job as always.
lol. I wish. I did catch the Luger Christina Ricci whips out in the last episode. The corner cutters came from Amazon (which is actually a really good place for inexpensive tools). Just search "leather corner cutters". There's several different sets of them.
Hey I’ve been trying to contact you on Instagram but for some reason it’s not working, but I would really like to see if there’s a way that you could make me a Wednesday bag and then I could pay you for it. so if there’s a way that we could work this out, I would really appreciate that.🙂
Hi. Not sure why I'm not seeing your messages on Instagram. I don't currently make this bag for sale. However, if you google "Cambridge Satchel Company", they sell a model called the "small portrait backpack" that is a dead-ringer. Also check out their regular "portrait backpack". It looks large enough to fit a notebook computer.
lol. It only looks that way. I used only a little; it just sat on the very top as a bubble. It didn't actually fill up the screw. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

Mastery of simple tools to turn out functional art and imagination enough to do it. Excellent!
The quality and craftsmanship of your bag looks better than the original!!!!
So lovely. I would love to see a mini version of this backpack. With a slimmer straps. You rock man....
It is amazing how much time & energy goes into making a bag like this! Thank you for this video!
OMG this such a fine made bag 😍😍😍
Thanks!

Congratulations! Just had my second grandson. Spoil them as much as you can.
I have never watched leather work before. It is very interesting. Thank you 😊
Very cool, I’m sure your daughter’s gonna love it
Very good. Now my daughter wants one.
That was interesting to watch. That satchel will last forever. Nice work!

Absolutely awesome work.

The students back-pack came from Japan. All the ones I have seen so far come from the post war (WW2) years in Japan.
Awesome job!

@@christmasco.6015 That's an Al Stohlman trim knife. I picked it up at Tandy years ago.
I use a retractable razor knife, you just need to change blades before starting the project. The handle fits the hand pretty good.
Great video. You deserve way more subs!
Simply beautiful

Hey, great video! Would you remember the needle size that you used for sewing this backpack?
The backing on your basting tape tore and I cursed reflexively. Hate when that happens.

Great video. Where did you get you corner radius cutter and punchers you used to cut the slots for your handle?
Thanks! All from Amazon. Search "leather corner cutters" or "leather hole punches". Super cheap and there's a variety each to choose from.
I'm sorry, when you're talking about the satchel design are you saying The Cambridge Satchel Company? I couldn't make out what you were saying.
Thanks

👍
Can you do a tutorial video on that skiver I have one but can’t seem to make it work well
The one at the 10:50 mark? I literally just made a whole video on that little machine. Check out my channel's home page.
Buen día soy John de Lima(Perú),me podrías vender solo el patrón de la mochila de cuero por favor?,gracias.

Thanks! No. I just made the one.
Здравствуйте! Дремель, для обработки края кожи, тоже подошёл в этой работе...
oh, I forgot to also ask if you can give me the information on the seam guide that you have on your sewing machine. Again thanks
The material/edge guide? It came with the machine. It's from Cobra

That's how those particular machines sound my friend. Possibly a Cobra Class 26 machine with a speed reducer.
