  • This original Camping by the Woodland Lake, long bedtime story audiobook for grown ups is a very personal therapeutic bedtime story for grownups, it was recorded during a live sleep meditation creation session as a tribute to my best friend shortly after he took his life, covering our shared interests, a replication of one of the first hypnotic inductions I created for him about 20 years ago, etc. This was very emotional to record and had tears in my eyes for parts of recording this. This sleep meditation means a lot to me and hopefully you will like it also. As well as helping with anxiety, stress and worry, this has been created to help with the grieving process.
This is a long sleep story for grownups created during a livestream with ideas from viewers. This healing sleep story for grownups is a bedtime story for grownups about a young man walking up a mountain path to a rock high up the mountain where they sit, look back at how far they have come, before drifting into a reverie and discovering themselves sat in a captains chair of a star ship. The ship heads to a destination. They head down in a shuttle from the ship to a planet. They land on the planet near dense woodland and a lake. They touch the grass-like plant on the ground. They hear what sounds like humpback whale call. They walk through the woodland to the lake, setting up camp on the edge of the lake. They see a humpback whale breaching in the lake. The next day, they check on the humpback whales and play with a dolphin. After a while, they find themselves drifting out of the reverie and finding themselves sat on that rock on the mountain where they release an urn of ashes out to the wind before continuing up the mountain to the summit. Once at the summit, they parachute from the top of the mountain and touchdown on the edge of the river running through the forest. They use wood they find and the parachute to create a boat before rowing down the river to a nearby town, check-in to a hotel, go to their room, settle down in bed and drift comfortably asleep. As they fall asleep, they find themselves awakening in an armchair. They notice in a mirror, how they have aged and wonder where all the years have gone. They sit back down in that chair and write about their experiences before heading back into their minds, creating incredibly realistic inner experiences as if they are really in those experiences. Later in the day, they sit looking out over the garden while stroking their cat on their lap before heading to bed and drifting asleep.
Some background to my choice of metaphors in this story:
When Graham was still in his teens he wanted to know what it would be like to grow old, to lead a life, so we did hypnosis and time distortion so that 5 minutes of real-world time was a lifetime of hypnotic time. He experienced a whole lifetime in that 5 minutes, then we spent hours talking about his experience. He was cremated and will have his ashes scattered in a hilly, countryside location. One of the first unscripted inductions I ever created was when he asked if I could create a Star Trek induction for him and so I made one, using increasing warp speed as a deepener. We went camping together and were always inventing things etc...
Here is my tribute to Graham with him singing his song 'A Better Way': • Video

As huge of a fan as I am of Dan Jones, idk who Graham was. Surely I've missed him as I have watched most of Dan's sleep stories. The others not so much but sometimes. But I CAN say this - if Dan is sad I'm sad. Please be well dear mr. Jones!

Graham used to be in many of my videos where they would be of the two of us teaching and demonstrating hypnosis and therapy. Many videos on my channel before I left RUclips in about 2011 were demonstrations with Graham or him hypnotising me and video clips from our PsyEnTech livestreams and from our livestream chats and other things like our drunken karaoke videos etc...

Some of them are here on RUclips, some which are no longer on RUclips I think I included clips from in my 10 years on RUclips videos a few years back and I have shared some I think over on Facebook. Most of the clips in my tribute video to Graham are from videos I've posted on RUclips, from me hypnotising him at the beginning, to us singing and the clips from our livestreams...

I have already said this over on podbean, but I'll say it again. I love that you shared such an important part of yourself with us, through this story. I don't tend to listen to the same stories each night. However, this has stayed on my list for a fair bit now. I really enjoy it.

Hello Dan, hope you are well. I’ve listened to you for sometime and have one of your books. Love you! Do you have a video that is for night before surgery?

I don't think I've specifically for anything for that on RUclips. It rings a bell that I've been asked that before and have done it, either mixing it into one of the meditations, but I wouldn't know which one or I've made separate tracks about it.
The best thing is probably one of the quick guided processes that you can learn and then use while learning and use often to calm yourself and focus on other things, like where I count down from 3 for you to enter a relaxed focused state and county up to 3 for you to open your eyes. That is something you can learn for yourself so that you can do it yourself. Then the evening before, you can use that if needed and on the day you can use it and tell yourself what you want to achieve in an if-then structure, like 'if I start to feel anxious, then I will ignore the anxiety' you can also try sentences like 'when I think of surgery then I'll feel comfortable'
One thing that helps this be most effective is making the response part a not doing part. So the research is that trying to focus, like trying to focus on something you are studying when there are distractions is less effective than telling yourself to ignore the distractions. Ignoring means not attending to it, so putting in no effort, which makes this work better because it is saying so something effortless, whereas trying to focus on something else is putting in effort, you are trying to focus attention on something. So think about what you want and if there is an effortless option you can tell yourself.
For self hypnosis for myself, this is all I do. I take a moment to think about the sentence I want to tell myself, I sit quietly, give all my attention to what I'm doing, I want it to be successful it aligns with my goals, I want to achieve that goal and I then just tell myself the simple sentence a few times and may repeat this sentence a few more times throughout the day to remind myself of it.
