“Loaded dice” isn’t an original term. It’s been used for like centuries. It actually gets used a lot in video games. I just saw it in league of legends an hour ago
I was a little skeptical of type switching as a mechanic, but seeing it in action I can see how it actually has good potential to add depth to fights without being too overwhelmingly powerful. I like it better than Dynamax at least.
I think it’s a better mechanic than Dynamax, but I’m still kinda wary of it. The ability to change your type to any other type seems like it could add a ton of variance and add some really nasty turn-by-turn guessing sequences where match outcome is swayed by a very small number of high-impact turns. If Terra-type is revealed in preview, I think it could be a solid mechanic. If not, I think it might be similar to z moves where you can often guess type based on team needs but you can also just lose if you guess the wrong type.
@@harb1ng3r82 I suppose in that sense it's similar to the old hidden power guessing games. Hopefully it'll be similar to the other generational gimmicks in that you can only use 1 per battle, which will mean you only have to play around it until you can force your opponent to pop one, then everything's pretty straightforward.
@@connorshaw7649 One interesting thing to me is that Hidden Power was slightly held back by the limits of old movepools and smaller metagames. Zapdos in ADV for instance nearly always runs HP Grass for Swampert, and rarely runs ice even if ice would be nice into other targets. However, the wider the movepools get, the more that powercreep kicks in, and the more viable Pokémon there are, the more volatile Hidden Power gets. I’m worried that terastilization will give too many things too many options. And that’s not even to mention how gross some Pokémon are going to be. Reuniclus but it’s a steel type or fairy type is going to be so nasty, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
@@harb1ng3r82 As an ex-YuGiOh fan, I worry about power creep in general for Pokemon. I'm hoping that a lot of the new moves from Legends of Arceus never make it to the mainline games (and also that legendary BSTs are going to calm down a little after sword doggo's... interesting stat spread). I suppose the enhanced movepool options are going to make terra types a lot more impactful than HP, as well as the defensive utility of being able to spontaneously grow an immunity. I think the first month or so will be chaos with a couple of seemingly "unbeatable" mons, until the meta settles down a bit and it turns out there are several reliable counters to each, as is usually the way of things. After that most mons will probably only have a couple of types they really WANT to be. It'll still be a guessing game, but most of the time you'll be guessing between 2-3 types, not 18. Or maybe I'm just on copium and it's going to be a complete free for all without rhyme or reason. Time will tell I guess.
I like the new mechanic also but Dynamax was cool too. I never found anything immediately wrong with Dynamax despite doing multiple Ranked Battles and losing most of them. The only times it was awful was when I came across a player who was desperate to win and stacked his team with the strongest Pokémon he could think of, only then did Dynamax feel unfair

This confirms that you become mono type when you terastalize. Coalossal is fire/rock. It said "not very effective" which means it's pure water now. If it only changed one of the types, it would have done neutral damage. Still, giving up 2 stab options for this is interesting. Power boost to the type seems not as good when you are not using your original type, as said before. Tera blast fixes the issue when you don't learn moves of that Tera type. Is it only a special move, or is there a physical version of the move? Maybe it chooses the stronger stat. Otherwise physical attackers are at a disadvantage. Also, confirmed that terastalize is not bound to an item like megas and z moves were. Breloom was terastalized and still had access to the Loaded Dice. Lots of subtle info in such a short time.
But the immunity change more than makes up for it. Imagine you have a fairy type as your ace and someone's swords boosted Garchomp is about to Poison Jab and you switch to a steel type.
Even as a casual/story mode player some of these items are great. I remember playing earlier games (specifically RSE and ORAS) and liking multi-shot moves like Bullet Seed a lot, but it’s just not quite powerful enough. This item could make those moves a lot more fun to use in casual gameplay.
@@internetguy7319 I mean, give it to a pokemon with a 50% berry and given they get out unscathed, that's two free substitutes and baton passes in the same fucking turn
Honestly the most hype thing for me is finally having breloom in a regional pokedex again. I don't know why it hasn't been in one since Hoenn but its finally back. It's also cool to get what will likely be the canon names of the player characters, Juliana and Florian. And as everyone has mentioned, Cyclizar is 100% related to the legendaries, sharing all the features that they have in common, just on a smaller more plain body. Considering the past/future themes in this game, it's possible that rather than evolvinbg into the legendaries, the legendaries are Cyclizar's ancestors and descendants, that meet the player through time travel shenanigans.
My initial thought was that Cyclizar could be a pre-evolution, but its also possible we could have a solution like we did with Carbink and Diancie and they just look related.
I'm super surprised that I'm not seeing more talk about cyclizar having a clear resemblance to the legendaries, this combined with the fact that they refrained from showing what stage the koraidon and koraidon cards are in the new ex reveal makes me imagine cyclizar must either evolve or transform into them to some extent? Or maybe cyclizar relation to the legendaries is similar to the whole diance and carbink thin where the mythical/legendary is an exceptional variant
Ah, that's fair. I am still wondering how the paradox forms fair lore wise. Wondering if they really are just past and future forms drawn to the present, or if they are kind of along the lines of ultra beasts. There's a new feature in this game that is going to be similar to evolution but it isn't quite the same. I follow leaks so I know. It's a new form of evolution that is based on time. Koraidon/Miraidon are one of the mons that have it.
A substitute swap move, an item that copies the first stat change, confirmation that teralization is not item bound, and a 3rd hidden power type move! This is gonna be wild!
I strongly suspect Cyclizar is basically the Cosmog of Scarlet and Violet. Like it evolves once or twice over the course of the game to become Miraidon or Koraidon, and whatever causes it to evolve one way or the other is connected to the school you're attending. Like maybe you feed it some kind of special version of the fruit from the school crest and that's what makes each version exclusive. Maybe even a fruit that was Terastalized somehow, and that ties the Terrastalization gimmick to the box art legendaries.

One thing I notice right away is the change in music. The music (not sure if it was just for the trailer or in-game) might indicate the Pokemon Company is moving back towards (at least it seemed to me) their older style of music. It is less orchestral as newer generations have been, and more closely resembles the 90s and 2000s rock style that pervaded the era of the first few generations. If this trend holds up for the games, and future titles, it is a change I will welcome wholeheartedly.

Maybe even a fruit that was Terastalized somehow, and that ties the Terrastalization gimmick to the box art legendaries.
I'm doubtful Terrastalization is connected to the box art legendaries because none of the previous gimmicks really have been, they've been pretty consistently connected to the 3rd Legendary

Shedinja: I can teracrystalize to have no weakness
My time has come
Interesting changes
I hope there will be a pendent to intimidate which lowers the special attack stat this gen. I would also really love if the freeze status condition would change to frostbite from Legends Arceus
You are so right! A special intimidate has no reason not to exist. I'd give it to some under performing poke to give them relevance !
That would be perfect, maybe something themed after "defocusing" the enemy or something since intimidating is like scaring them from attacking as hard as they normally could.
Call it "Unsettle"
@@huxley1559 damn that's much better
So you want us to have Burn, Poison, Toxic, AND Frostbite? We don't need four of the exact same status effect.
There’s also another item listed on the website called covert cloak which gets rid of secondary effects of opposing moves
*Togekiss cries in the corner*
So, it's basically an equipable Shield Dust...cool
I now have a sudden to expect Blitzle and Zebstrika to be in Paldea's pokedex alongside the Sewaddle and Alcremie lines.
Come on, Game Freak! I can't be that hard!
Zebstrika and Alcremie are confirmed in the 2nd DLC
That Cyclizar is absolutely the pre-evolution of both box legendaries
I was not expecting a Pokemon reveal today! This has made my day!
It was the Finals of the Pokemon World Tournament. They knew there would be an announcement at the end.
they announced it
So big points to take away
1) Substitute and switch out now a move, gonna be crazy
2) Mirror herb makes things like weakness policy more risky of a strat
3) Tera blast means that all mons will have some kind of stab move when they change types, no matter what
I wonder what kind of bp its gonna have. My bet is 80
@@y0mir Thats about what i'd expect too, 100% acc with 70-80 bp. Tbh i kinda want it on the lower end, as it shouldnt only be used if your normal coverage moves don't include the type you need. Making it lower would make ppl more likely to run other options if its there, rather than that all the time
@@aidynladouceur8369 it's essentially Hidden Power but better, since it looks at what your best offense stat is. And Hidden Power saw HEAVY use prior to being removed. I can see some pokemon taking a specific Tera type PURELY to gain back coverage that was lost with HP
@@EvanFarshadow I mean yeah, but the move itself isnt that, but rather the mechanic as a whole. And tbh in online play, HP was very bad for the game, as you need consistency in counters, and HP could pretty much irrelivatize those counters. Now though, bc you change type with the move, instead of having good coveragre against your weakness, you just flip the type interaction as a whole with them, but you cant undo that type change, so baiting a tera then swapping to something to deal with the new type is possible without leaving yourself open to previous stab attacks they wouldve had pre tera form
I saw 'Loaded Dice' and immediately thought of that scene in El Dorado.
"They're using loaded dice!"
I'm going to say that every time I think someone has them, lmao
Congrats! Number 1 on trending!! I just pre ordered violet today! Can't wait for it to come out
I'm happy to see Breloom and Cloyster return but I'm squealing over the new dragon/normal Pokemon! It's so cute!!!!
Looks like it's the Pre evolution of the legendaries
@@JoseLopez-us7zo The prophecy is coming true
@@JoseLopez-us7zo I see the resemblance but who knows what Cyclizar could evolve into. Maybe it's a single-stage evolution.
@@ElectroBlastLuigi You could be right, but they showed it as a ride pokemon so I highly doubt it isn't the legendary pre-evolution, which makes sense since that is the best way to balance getting them early game
It could be the pre evolution of the legendaries simillar to Cosmog.
This actually got me hyped up again on the competitive ever since X and Y
I want the Battle Frontier to include in Scarlet and Violet because it is a missed opportunity since HeartGold and SoulSilver and it is a promise.
It's great to see more of the battle mechanics. And seeing Cyclizar, I wonder if Koraidon and Miraidon will be the second pair of Legendaries after Solgaleo and Lunala with a pre-evolved form?
According to the leaks, the bike pokemon (revealed now as Cyclizar) can say that it has the legendaries as both paradox forms for it (being past/future). But it's I think similar to how apparently Solgaleo and Lunala could apparently be considered Ultra Beasts.
I like how the move Shed Tail adds more distinction between the HP stat, and the Defense, or Sp. Def stats. A Pokemon with a high HP stat’s substitute will be made tougher if a Pokemon with high defense stats is switched in.
Why am I more happy for Breloom Returning than anything else
Because Breloom is the best mushroom.
Remember: every old pokemon that comes back is one less regional variant.
We haven't seen Breloom in forever! So glad he's coming back! His shiny form is dope!
I can't wait to use breloom in the game, so much nostalgia! definitely shiny hunting it
I did get really happy too but because he is my official catcher in earlier games haha surprised to see more people happy but it's nice
Covert Cloak, which is mentioned on the website but not in the video, is probably going to be one of the most influential items in the meta. It makes its holder ignore the secondary effect of moves used against it, using Fake Out as the demo.
It'll probably mostly be used in doubles tho. In singles it won't be as good cause fake out isn't used as much.
@@hugomventura sure but scald is spammed and now you can avoid that
@@lordmew5 oh ya im just used to switching in special attacking mons to avoid my physical attackers from getting burnt.
Please bring back all Pokemon. This game would be so cool to roam around with my favorite Pokemon that I've had since I first started playing. I got my Fire Red team in home stuck there...
games past gen 8 are no longer going to contain national dex, it's too difficult to balance in the span of time they've set for the gaps between generations which is 3 years
@@strxwbxrrysxda7854 then just do what sun and moon did allow only the regional dex to be used for tournaments
Interesting... Changing type from rock/dark to Ghost with the cristalization to change the weakness from fighting x4 to x0
Tera blast is basically hidden power with a bang. Granted it is once per battle but having that type of coverage for every pokemon is gonna be brutal.
Mirror herb is gonna be a lot of fun
It’s hidden power on one pokemon, unless you want to put this move on a pokemon that isn’t teraing and waste a move slot
Tera form and tera Blast lasts all match unitl you switch
It's better hidden power since it uses the attack stat that is the highest. Like with TTar on the video, it uses Attack stat.
Hidden power sucks
@@fnafjbsfm3294 Hidden Power's purpose was never high damage, it was specific coverage for specific threats. HP Fire for Ferrothorn/Scizor or HP Ice for Gliscor/Garchomp/(insert 4X ice weak dragon here) for example.
I love how this battlefield has bystanders cheering from the sidelines.
Wonder if that's specific to player battles or if different NPCs and backgrounds will show up in different areas. Might be cute to fight in a forest and have a couple different mons watch from the bushes.
Shed Tail will probably have low distribution or have a minus priority or something. Because if not, the ban hammer is almost certain to come down.
A pivot move that creates a substitute. Ohh you know comp is having a collective nerdgasum at that.
