I’m very fortunate to have a GSA and an XR M sport. I got the XR because it is a total contrast to the GSA on which I’ve covered 27k in 2 years. The XR is just a different experience, the power of that engine is intoxicating and the handing is so precise. It puts a grin on your face like the Joker. It’s also comfortable and I would have no hesitation recommending it for touring. Both great bikes and the GSA in dynamic is great fun. The engine in the XR keeps sending me messages ….. would you mind winding that throttle please sir 😂

If you sit the bikes side by side, for me the XR is so much better looking. Let's be honest the first thing we buy a bike on is looks 😊

Yep completely agree, i love the look of the xr and its way better looking than the GS. Very similar to when i was looking for a Girlfriend 🤔🤣

That's what keeps me from buying a gs. Really like everything it does, but the XR or a Multistrada are much, much more sexy.

I traded my 21 GS in for the 23 XR. I felt the ride was better and the fun factor is greater on the XR and the XR just looks better.

I had a GS and found it a really good vehicle. I used it for a commute and exploring NE Scotland when I briefly moved there with work. As soon as I didn’t need it for that I got rid as I didn’t find it fun. I recently bought an XR in summer and that ticks all the boxes. Fast, fun, can tour and get the Mrs on the back if I need to.

@@lifeonmarshmoto as a piece of engineering it was great but it felt like a tool, rather than the thrill you want from a motorbike. I got bored of the engine pretty quick.

I own a R1250GS Adventure & had a test ride on an XR with a view to swapping, I was told I could have it for about 1 1/2 hrs, after 20 mins I took the XR back as it was the most uncomfortable bike, seat rock hard & cramped riding position, I was glad to get back on my GSA. But obviously not the same for everyone.

I will start with the conclusion: when I step of the GS, it is like I step out of my car: a comfortable, reliable mode of transportation. When I step of te XR, I almost always have a big smile on my face.
I have almost 90k kms on the 2019 model XR and will never change to teh 1250 or older boxer engine, to agricultural. In fact, iI just bought a 2009 K1300GT because I wanted to spare the XR another Belgian winter ( as a complement to my XR) .
I got a GS as a courtesy-bike for 2 days for the 60000 valve check service and was so happy to get back on the XR.
Screens and seats can be exchanged to suit your comfort, engine and quickshifter can't.

Not quite the same but I had an r1250r for a couple of years. Great bike and agree with “riding the torque” but once I got on an XR I realised how much more exciting it was. Have ridden a GS and GSA since but seem a bit dull in comparison to my XR……

I bought a new xr in april 22 exactly like your red one i put 3.5k on it fitted my shad panniers and topbox i toured scotland with daughter in. I disliked the xr so much. Issues i had top heavy pegs in the way to stand vibes fuel economy seat awful no heated seat its a bike pretending to be an adv bike even bm mived it into sports catergory. I traded it for my gsa in sept 22 lived my gsa to bits no issues. I have now got a daytona as a stable mate the gsa is simply the best.

The looks are important but I like the iconic looks of the GS. That boxer motor in street legal speeds, is more than enough.
The S 1000 XR, is irritating at low speeds. The bike is fabulous over 6000 rpm’s and beyond, it pretty dominates the road on that range of acceleration and the sound of the in line four cilindres is addicting! She’s a beauty in every aspect. I just don’t like to ride it on slow paces, city riding with it…sucks.
In conclusion, the GS is a versatile bike, good for commuting, but also effective for long rides in comfort for the rider and pillion. The XR is a sports bike with long legs! Also comfortable but more suited to give pleasure to the rider. It’s not a bike to ride on relaxation, at least for me. The GS is different, a smoother ride on every kind of road, and that is hard to fight. The only counter is if you compare this two bikes. You’ve got to be sure which one is made for you, which one matches your preference as a rider. Once you define that, each one can be the perfect bike for you ✌️✌️

Some really good points! Starting to realise they are VERY different bikes and all comes down to the sort of ride I want! Which doesn’t help because they are both so good in different ways! Lol

I've recently changed to an Xr having had 2 1250 GSA's. Absolutely love the GSA its incredible but as soon as I rode the Xr I was smitten. Its (for me) just as comfy, much lighter, it handles way better in the twisties and mountain passes & is just as good for long tours. It looks way better and is a shed load more fun. Only down side is tank range compared to the GSA but that's a minor issue.

I have an XR and test rode a GS recently as well as a RNineT and an MXR. The GS was such an easy bike to ride and very familiar to the XR but probably more comfortable but I don’t like the sound and feel of the engine. It was better suited to the RNineT in my opinion. The MXR blew me away but is far too expensive and without panniers, why would you buy it? So I’m now trading in my Gen 1 XR for a Gen 2 and I’m still excited to ride it which is what it’s all about. Btw, I also have a Gen 4 RR so I’m clearly sports bike biased so as ever, buy the bike that makes you want to ride..

Mate I'm just in the process of trading my 2024 1300 gs on an s1000xr because of the exact same thinking, the quick shifter on the 1300 hundred is just crap, in the first three gears its snatchy, crunchy and down right bloody awful, i just cant live with it
