Cool Hand Luke was supposed to be set in the early 1950's, but reflective sunglasses weren't sold until at least 10 years later. Other than that, one hell of a film.
According to the informative book "Sunglasses" by Mike Evans, reflective sunglasses date from 1948. They just weren't a popular fashion statement until the 60's. I remember a friend of my dad's who owned an airplane wore them when I was a kid in the mid-50's. They looked very similar to the ones Morgan Woodward wears in CHL.
This clip is in the incorrect aspect ratio. The movie was originally presented in Panavision; 2.35:1 or thereabouts. Here the sides have been cropped to create 1.78:1 🤔
One of my all time favorites.
