Cheers for the run through. This was helpful to know the limits of the unit and I have now bought one myself. I went with a single 100W Solar Saga panel for now, but do see the benefit of a second if I end up doing out of peak season camping.

I am now on the AC200P in a teardrop trailer - love it - have 2 x 350W panels too. I can do a 30 minute wash and a 2:50 hour tumble dry and still have 40% left with my washer dryer. Love these things

Iv purchased the Jackery Explorer 1000, I'm now working on the solar panels, which I will only buy 1panel because I don't see you getting the full benefit when purchasing 2 100 solar panels, (unless your in poor light) & buying another panel at £250 is far to expensive for the extra few watts you gain....

This was by far the most technical and comprehensive test of the Jackery 1000. I intend buying this with the single solar panel as you rightly point out that in bright (Spanish) sunshine the single panel is around 80% as effective as two, so I'll save myself the £250. I would love to buy the Jackery 1500 that has been released in the States, but there seem to be no plans for a UK version yet, sadly. Great review - keep them coming! Thanks

Great video Adrian, a nice unit. I’m impressed with the inverter output running a washing machine on a cold wash, epic. I totally agree with everything you mentioned in the summary. I do think that for the £1,000 price, they could have gone with LiFePo4 batteries for an extended lifespan. Thanks again for sharing this review. Coming late to this video, but it is a great shout for the UK users, I have Two 1000's and only charge them by solar, by running two 100 watt panels in Parallel on good days I read 148 - 160 watt input. Adapter cables from Amazon. The Anderson input is limited to 120 watt, where as the 8mm input takes a lots more if the panels are run in Parallel. . Use the Jackery's in my workshop for mostly heat pads and 55 watt tube heater, for plant growing.Even in bad weather over the last 3 weeks I have managed to jiggly the solar input to keep at least one heated running 24/7. Live in Cornwall!

@Jetsetscotty Good day! Thanks for your very generous feedback, it's sincerely appreciated👍😃. Below are the battery specs from their website, which includes cycles. I guess it boils down to how you are likely to use it. Someone discharging it fully every day and then recharging back to full will use the cycles up quicker than someone who doesn't drain if fully all the time (perhaps uses while solar is coming in too). I own one.
I noticed changes in input power when its plugged into different supplies.
12v battery with solar connection gives 78w.
UK adapter 144w.
Solar direct 120w when the sun is in full shine.
I think its intellectual as it knows the discharge curve and senses that it might be plugged into something that might be vulnerable in consumption.
The battery on solar stayed at 12.9v as I think the jackery was protecting the load against the solar input wattage.

I’m in my second camping season with the Jackery 1000. I run a Dometic 35l fridge 13.9 iPad Pro and iPhone. The 1000 watt hours would last about 4 days so initially I thought that would do me. Didn’t think the uk weather would be any good for the solar panels. I’m in the North Lakes at Keswick Camping Club Site. Two solar panels out and no sun all week. Still getting 35 to 40w and at 60% battery life after 5 days. I don’t use the AC but generally have two DC sockets on the go and use 4 power banks as well for convenience. Also a shout out for my Dometic CFX fridge as it’s super efficient and controllable, not to mention is keeps things cold. Was a bit pricey though. In short whatever way you intend use it the Jackery is worth considering. It seems to get hammered by other manufacturers on the net but I don’t really buy that.

@Tugwellyboot Good day! Thanks for your generous feedback, it's much appreciated😊. From the manual, the capacity is 1002Wh, so essentially it holds 1kWh. There are usually some loses when it comes to charging and discharging portable power stations, so it could take 1.1kWh of mains power to fully charge from empty the 1kWh available. I'd go for the simple, rough, estimate in this case and check what a kWh of electricity costs from your provider. Even better if you have access to a lower rate tariff. For me, it equates to 28p per kWh, so just over 30p for a full-charge is what I'd likely pay (I only use solar charging). I hope this helps. Please shout if you need anything else. Excellent video. Considering that there is only a single Anderson DC connection for charging, how would you recommend to charge from both DC out from car and solar panel to be mounted on top of the vehicle?
@Jack PRick Good day Jack. Thanks for your kind feedback, it's much appreciated👍😊. You can charge from your 12V cigarette lighter output in your car while on the move (cable comes with this unit). To charge from a roof mounted solar panel (assuming it has MC4 connectors), you can get a cable that is MC4 to Anderson so it can be plugged straight into the port on this unit. I've been checking out cheaper alternatives on Alibaba, but that would be a bit of a gamble. Interested in a portable power station and solar panels to convert my shed to an 'offgrid' shed to work from home. Would something like this be appropriate for charging a laptop, screen and some lights? How efficient are the solar panels in a UK climate, will these be enough to sustain this use or is it likely that I will be needing to charge up the jackery regularly using the mains?
@Adam van den Houten Good day and thanks for your question. In terms of the battery system, it all depends on how much you use it with the laptop, screen and lights. The best option is to add up the individual usage figures in watts and a rough calculation can be done (e.g. laptop 80W, screen 100W and lights 40W = 220W). You can then multiply the total watts figure by the hours you'll use them. For example, if you used 220W for 4 hours it would be 220W x 4hrs = 880Wh (or 0.88kWh). This is running without sun and off the battery alone for that period.
If you don't need a portable panel, I'd go for a standard glass panel or two (cheaper and last longer) on the shed roof, if it's not shaded. You can run a cable into the shed and charge up. The power station remains 'portable' so you can top-up with power from the mains should you get a few rainy days in a row. From my experience, solar panels work well in the UK, but are reliant on the changeable weather. As you would expect, winter results in a drop of daylight hours so solar yields are less. The good thing about winter is cold, clear days as solar panels are more efficient when they are cold (produce more), with the right angle for low sun.
If you can work out what you will use, for how long, it should give a reasonable idea of how long you can run 'off-grid' in your shed. Please shout if you need anything else or want help with a rough estimate. All the best, Adrian
I wonder if the cigarette lighter charging might trip the fuse in some cars, at the 93W it pulls. RE: the 100W solar output, a more relevant question might be the performance on a cloudy day in the UK (a much more likely occurrence than the situation covered in the video).
@runcycleskixc Good day and thanks for your comment. Typically, 12V cigarette lighter outputs are fused at 10A, meaning that 12V x 10A = ~120W. If you have any examples where this isn't the case, please could you let me know?
I've attempted to cover cloudy day performance before (much testing with my own setups), but there are too many variants to provide any kind of worthwhile average or meaningful figure. There's type of cloud, density, time of day/year, location, to name a few. The only way I've found to increase yield on cloudy days is to add more panels (over panel) as long as you don't exceed the max Voc for the solar input/charge controller. You won't always see the benefit of the extra panels on full sun days, as the current can get clipped when it hits the max the solar input/charge controller can use. All the best, Adrian
@@DADvinci Thank you, Adrian! I think a 120W fuse may fail after several uses if one pulls 93W consistently, but I have not experimented with this! Re: the cloudy days, after watching other videos, it appear that one can count on 5-10% of "sunny" performance at best. I was thinking about frensel lenses, but a 3m wide lens would cost 100x the cost of the panel (and would need a tracking device :)
Watching further, I noticed you also have the same alpicool fridge as me. At -4 degrees it lasts 36 hours.

@Femi Good day. I'm glad it helped. I guess it will boil down to your requirements. The AC200P is a good unit from what I've seen, I'll need to get hold of one at some point to test/review.
If you need a larger inverter, more capacity, longer battery cycle life, faster charging and it works for your budget then the AC200P might be a better fit. It weighs in at 27.5kg, whereas the Jackey is about 10kg.
In terms of customer support, I've read some mixed comments about PowerOak's support, although I've not used it myself. Jackery do seem to offer good support, but again I've not directly tested this myself as I've just dealt with their marketing team as part of the reviews on the range. @@DADvinci I have just realised that the AC200max is available and seems to be a superior model and would suit my family much better. The fact that you can add the B230/b300 batteries in a modular fashion gives me the option to expand...eventually. re Bluetti's CS...their phone number doesn't work (-.-) so, that's a fail,

Hi There, nice review.
It's a shame to see a trend where these units don't have the nice 12V barrel connectors. The Allpowers oines that you also review, usually have 3 of these and If you're using as a battery on a boat or camper van then you need a plethora of 12V things, E.G. Lights, VHF radio, Tiller autopilots, fridges, depth sounders etc etc, these all run off 12V. It's difficult to use the standard "car cigarette" style socket for all of this.

Hello my daughter has a 240 v stair lift that by the sound of the motor uses a lot of power to start, then the motor quietens until it slows down to go round the bend, once on the straight it really powers up again. I have no idea of the amperage or wattage used for these surges. Also when there is a power cut to the stairlift, the warning bleep sounds and cannot be switched off or quietened.
Do you think the Jackory unit will operate this stairlift , or at least keep the power on to stop the bleeping, I know she will need to turn it on each time there is a power cut.

@@DADvinci Hello Adrian, yes the stairlift plugs into a mains 240v 13amp fused socket, but I noticed that the wiring from the stair lift to the plug is quite thin and the plug at the wall is the standard size wire, make me think that it could be powered by a transducer, I.e 240v from the wall plug into a device that is hidden somewhere in a cupboard where the thinner wire comes out and goes directly into the stair lift unit. I may be wrong but fail to understand why the two thickness of wiring. Does this help. I cannot get to my daughters house for a week or so to check anything properly.

@Dollopuss Films I've had a look for the folding 60W panel and it appears they've stopped selling it on Amazon and AliExpress (ALLPOWERS store). There is a newer 60W version which folds in half, but I'm not sure if that fits what you're looking for (dimensions are in the Amazon listing if you want to check). Are you planning to put the panel on the inside or outside of a window? Just to make you aware, putting it inside a window will reduce panel efficiency, so you'll get less watts from behind glass. I hope this helps and please let me know if you need anything else. Cheers, Adrian

Do you have the details of your TV power consumption in watts (label on TV or from the manual)? I assume you have some kind of internet router plugged into the mains? Don't have my tv manual, online research says around 77 Watts for TV. Internet hub says 12V 2.0A maybe 12 Watts so 89 Watts total Any idea how long the E1000 would run these devices for. Thank you again.
@Paul Sargeant Thanks for the info Paul. I apply a rule of thumb to get rough 'real world' runtime estimates. I assume that only 80% of the advertised capacity is available to use (loses/efficiency). In the case of this unit, it has 1000Wh (1kWh) available so @80% there's 800Wh (0.8kWh) to use. Using your consumption figure, 800Wh ÷ 89W = 8.98 hrs runtime. I must stress, this is a very rough estimate and you may get more or less runtime when using it as intended. I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers, Adrian

@Know The New Good day and thanks for your question. In terms of battery cycle life, Jackery quote '500 cycles to 80%+ capacity' so it would very much depend on how it was used (charged/discharged). So even when the 500 cycles are reached, it would still be very useable with 80%+ capacity remaining. I can't say how long the unit and the internal components would last. All the best, Adrian
A few years ago I asked you is there a solar powered generator that can power an appliance like the washing machine and you said no but now there is which is great but it would take a few days to charge in the sun with solar but how long could it power your washing machine for before it went flat
@lee friend Good day Lee, it's nice to hear from you. Wow, was it that long ago? Yes, things have moved on a little and the choice of more powerful units has definitely improved in the UK (albeit slightly behind the US). That's a tough one to answer in a nutshell as it would depend on a number of things. The washing machine power consumption, what programme you use (how long is the wash cycle, does it heat the water, etc) and the unit specification.
It would have to work with the inverter of the unit too, as in my example the cold wash works fine as it doesn't need to heat the water (which pushes the inverter over the edge when heating comes into it). With the Explorer 1000, I could probably get 3 cold washes (don't normally have that much to do 3 in a row). I usually have it charging from solar while washing so it slows the discharge rate and once done it doesn't take as long to get charged up. The sun has not been very helpful over the past couple of months, so charging has taken much longer, but as (if) the weather improves the double panel setup should keep the battery topped up better.

There to power a full gaming computer alone other things it handled quite a lot but I notice it take a long time to charge and that can be a problem for most users after the energy crisis that’s going on right now and the cost of living to go up it wouldn’t be a bad investment on red day to go solar that’s all appreciate your videos keep it up.

@lee friend Many thanks Lee. I've been looking into wind power for some time now, for exactly the reason you kindly pointed out. Our variable weather does represent a challenge when it comes to power all year round (solar alone). The other issue I've found is that they are expensive when compared directly to solar panels, on a watt-by-watt basis. I'm going to continue to assess the real options and see if I can get the money together to try one out. Cheers, Adrian
