  • Siquijor is considered the mystical island of the Philippines, a land of warlocks, healers and magic.
It was nicknamed Isla del Fuego by the Spanish, because of all the fireflies that lighten the sky at night.

Hello, I just found your channel and I wanted to let you know that the fees you mentioned paying to see nature here in the Philippines, actually go towards preserving it. As you may know, many tourists don't practice proper conservation measures and can leave a negative impact on the environment. Your contribution is greatly appreciated and valued.
In the past, we have faced issues with tourists leaving behind their trash and causing damage to our natural surroundings. Unfortunately, not all tourists are considerate like you, and some of them have no regard for the environment or the locals. Therefore, the local government is making an effort to maintain our natural resources, ensuring that the residents can also enjoy them, and not only the tourists.

Wowza!!! This island looks incredibly magical ✨ I’m obsessed with both butterflies and fireflies. I’m with you on the beautiful beach with warm water being my happy place too! How fun to swim in the waterfalls too! Thanks for sharing these epic adventures. We would LOVE to check this out! I agree that it would be frustrating to pay for nature but I guess if it helps keep it clean…

Thanks guys, you’re the best! I believe you’ll see it one day soon, you can do it!
Yes, we’ve learned that the fees go back into the community and helps protect/clean everything, so it makes sense.

The fees are generally formulated by the village councils (barangays), where the head (barangay captain) and the council members (kagawad) are elected by the people of the local village. The income is used to support those who help clean the place and provide security. I think this is one of the unique features of the Philippine political landscape that protects the environment. For example, an owner of the property needs to secure the approval of the barangay and DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) to ensure that development plans are environmentally friendly.

The Philippines rank among the top countries with the most biodiversity. New species are still being discovered in the Philippines. Fortunately, environmental protection is a top priority in our political mindset. Healing and witchcraft were also deeply ingrained in Filipino culture. But as modern medical services became more affordable and available to most Filipinos, the traditional practices have been slowly replaced.

Another mystical place is Islas de Gigantes. Legend has it that traditional healers go to a specific location and perform a ritual to receive their magical powers.

What I know is that Siquijor is the island of enchantment because of the witches and sorcerers, glowing fireflies and st. elmos.
On the other hand, there is also another island in the Philippines called Capiz known for mythological monsters.

Try to watch the channels of those foreigners who chose to live or rather stay longer here in the Philippines like Becoming Filipino, Making it happen, Always Be Changing, Kito Family and some that is too many to mention. You will learn so many things on how they have been able to increase their viewers and subscribers. They love the Philippines and the Filipinos that as if this is their own country. And I know that they are also being grateful of the fact that their earnings comes from their filipino viewers and subscribers. They know that the government are not getting too much taxes from their citizens especially from those people in the provinces and rural areas who doesn't have enough earnings or wages , for the local government to have the capacity in maintaining and preserving the natures beauty and cleanliness. No one of them I've heard about the same thing you were saying about those very small fees you paid. It's better to just utter about how you've been enjoying those beaches without spending so much. Anyway, once you decided to go to one place or to any country there is nothing we can do but to pay what we have to pay. Complaining can't change it. You will just gather bad impressions. My two cents. My intentions here is for you to be successful in your vlogging bussiness like those vloggers I've mentioned earlier. That's why I'm saying.☺️

Thank you so much for the tip and the explanation 😊. Sorry if it came off as complaining, we really weren’t, just wondering why, as we haven’t seen this anywhere else in the Philippines (so far). I think 50 php is a very small fee to pay to have a beautiful beach clean and support locals 😊✌🏻

Well, 50 pesos, 100 pesos - can help a lot of average and poor people managing the parks.
For me, it was cheap and a drop in a bucket.

    • @TravellingNowhereFast
      @TravellingNowhereFast  7 месяцев назад

It’s not the price my friend, it’s the principle - I believe that nature should be free for all to enjoy. That said, I’m very happy to support local people and community and that the cost goes towards management of nature.

@TravellingNowhereFast I'm sure your country is the same as mine in America that we all complained does not affect us on a daily basis.
We have tons of red tapes and unnecessary rules and regulations.
THE FACT THAT THERE ARE MORE FREEDOM IN THE PHILIPPINES THAN IN AUSTRALIA AND AMERICA.
      Be thankful!

We didn’t complain, we have just found it interesting! We are happy if it keeps the beach clean. However we also feel sorry for the locals who need to pay a fee every time they go to their local beach 🇵🇭
