In Brazil, before asking for directions, you have to say "Hi! Excuse me. Good morning/afternoon/evening. Sorry to interrupt (whatever you're doing). Can you tell me...?" The most important is "good morning/afternoon/evening" before anything. Hahaha! I hate this. Nobody is wishing you any good part of the day. it's just a formula to show how polite you are. Of course there are exceptions to everything. Great lesson. You said it's for beginners, but sometimes we're so focused on advanced vocab and skip very useful information. Thank you! @@silviomp as an English teacher in Thailand there are formal ways of speaking in our language and informal . My mother being Thai , I was raised speaking Thai and English .
Every society has it's tweeks . Yes , we are very formal here in Thailand . All of my students 7 - 40 years of age will bow to me at the beginning and end of class .
