Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.
You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay.
Hey Wolf, any update on that game you played the demo on called Destroyer? That was a very cool demo and I'm still excited to see a full, polished, expanded release of the entire game and watching you play a campaign!!! 😺
They have a steam page! You should check it out
The game is progressing nicely! I have been following their dev blogs. It is easily one of my most anticipated games and will be featured heavily on the channel :)
@@Wolfpack345 Another game i'm f*ck*ng hyped is "Modern Naval Warfare" I saw your demo and it look awsome !
Wolfpack: "Hey Oscar, wanna know what's worse than a torpedo?"
Oscar: "Idk, what?"
Wolfpack: "2 torpedoes. :)"
Will Smith... :)
One of my favorite series by far!
Happy to hear it!
8:00 Speaking of playing some of the less desirable subs. Any chance of getting a series, with a sub from one of the more minor NATO countries? Maybe a British Oberon-Class or similar?
Yeah, I want to see the British superfast torpedo. The Spearfish?
In that initial attack on the 2 Victors and the Oscar, after they counterlaunched you were side on to them, presenting the whole side of your sub and making yourself as visible as possible to their active sonar. Perhaps a turn toward and slow to 2 knots might have been a good idea? Less noise and a smaller sonar target.
I cannot tell you enough how much I am enjoying this series. It's making my senior year of college just a little less stressful, thank you!
Just watched "The Wolf's Call" An absolutely amazing submarine movie!
And another suspenseful episode of Cold Waters!
Any other recommendations? I love sub movies but they are few and far between.
Random Soviet sub: “exists”
USS Narwal: “ And I took that personally”
My dad did a tour at Holy Loch in the early 80s. Kind of interesting to think that if this had actually happened, he'd be one of the guys working on the boat.
This has been a good set so far! I would like to suggest a Mighty 8th series if possible. Would give you the option of fighters or bombers.
I would squeal like a scoolgirl if he played The Mighty 8th
Something I have certainly though about going. I will be playing the new version when microprose releases it :)
Thank you for defending our National waters!
Denmark salutes you 😁
Congrats on 100K subs! You deserve it.
Thanks!
Gripping as always, the high stakes tension of this series make it so watchable 👏 you really are smashing it Wolfpack! 🐺👌
These videos have renewed my drive to play Cold Waters...It's been a long time
You and Taff in exile have gotten me into submersibles alot more, thanks for that
Same here.
Over half the time when I try to dog leg torpedoes at low speeds the wires break immediately and they go sailing off to nowhere.
Try to launch them at a shallow angle compared to your boat, and then reroute the torpedoes to the dog leg position (I assume you launch at 5 kts or so speed)
Thanks Wolf for the great upload. I'm playing the dotmod 0.3b in the 1968 campaign in a permit-class sub and really like it. I'll be doing this campaign next.
The merchants that pop up on the sonar as red contacts are actual targets of opportunity and you can shoot them without consequence. If need be, just go to periscope depth and check their flag, which if of a hostile nation, you can shoot them. Just an FYI.
Yeah I know. I generally avoid wasting weapons on non mission critical targets. I should blast em though.
@@Wolfpack345 Need a deck gun 🙂
@@Wolfpack345 I can understand that. Although if the targets of opportunity give xp for that mod you're using, might be worth the shot.
Get up. Go to work. Get home. Sleep.
Wake up to a new Wolfpack345 Cold Waters video. Nothing better to be asked for.
2 videos so close together and not a single one was April fools!?
Not this year!
Congratulations on reaching 100K Wolfpack Well Done xD
Thanks! 😄
@@Wolfpack345 Oh Your Welcome xD
Love this little boat
Have you tried playing one of the ships in Cold Waters instead of submarines? I get that Subs are probably more interesting and are more of your interest but it would be cool to see you do a ship like the Battleship Missouri
the game was not designed for surface ships and as such the gameplay of them is incredibly one dimensional and tedious. not very fun to play nor watch to be honest unfortunately
Hopefully soon when Sea Power comes out it will fill that role!
What can Missouri do besides runaway when faced with a submarine? Not like you'd even know it was there.
@@warmstrong5612 get Bismarck’d
Jammed rudder go brrrrrr
Missouri relies heavily on it's gun while the others just launch missiles outside missouris gunrange. Dont forget subs exist too and hard to detect, it's not good playing surface fleet
didn't say this mod I mean some other mod
I don’t know why Wolf is more popular
Nice job with your Cold Waters videos - I love them.
You know, I know it's supposed to be a towed array, but I cannot stop hearing TOAD array. 🐸 Ribbit.
1:00 Denmark Straight? Go find the wreck of the Bismarck real quick, sure your sun would commit crush, but hey you found the Bismarck
That was easier than expected. It appears that Soviet subs who do have a towed array (Victor III and Oscar II) are not modded (their towed array ability, that is) in the game.
Anachronistic too. There were no Oscar II (949A Antei, Антей) SSGN commissioned in 1984.
First boat of this class became active in late 1986.
This is high quality content!
Excellent work on your video series, I appreciate your work and enjoy your gameplay commentary.
I know this is all sim but the idea of the men on those boats. Yeesh.
Awesome wolf im in green 311 myself. Cheers the videos are always something to look forward to.
Happy Hunting!
Try acoustically shielding your launch with one side of the sub or the other, assuming dot mod simulates it. The theory is that launching weps from the tubes opposite of the target will absorb/reflect the sound of their launch away from the target by a few decibels. Could make a difference when combined with a layer or other acoustically sketchy situations.
I've actually been to Holy Loch. Twice. Typically, cold, wet, windy and green.
Congrats on 100k! Thanks for continuing with the great videos
This game always makes me wonder what It'd be like to be one of the civie ships in the area of one of those undersea battles.
Just suddenly a bunch of really loud and high pitch "BWWWEEEEEEEEEE" followed by faint underwater explosions.
There's been reports on forums from individuals who claim to have seen submarines on their (civilian) sonars. One in the thread I'm looking at even say they saw the sub surface about an hour after picking something "big" up on sonar. Even mention seeing the tender and an escorting frigate.
Also from the same thread, a submariner recounts sailing during a wargame with the conning tower above water with the hull below, thus messing with both her RADAR and SONAR signature, running near the shore to prevent being picked up by hydrophones, and passing a number of fishing vessels, who were "terrified by the dark shape of the sail and wash from the boat wondering what it is, or why a three story building seem to go right passed them."
man sinking 2 oscars is pretty insane considering there's only a few of them ever built
Congrats on the 100k subscribers.
Some interesting things related to the Oscar for you, Wolfpack345:
The Oscar has not one but two inner hulls due to its status as a missile launcher and is why it is nicknamed “Bread Loaf” as you have mentioned before. Under the outer hull and over the inner hull is a nearly foot thick layer of rubber, it absorbs the ping of active sonar thus making the sub very difficult to detect. The Kursk, the submarine now infamous for its disaster, was an Oscar II and after it sank in 2000 (and when Russia finally stopped trying to pretend to still be the 1980s Soviet Union in how it handled the disaster) it took a very long time to locate the wreck due to this sound proofing.
Side note, I have a question for you, Wolfpack, or anyone else who can answer it: in your last play through starting in the Akula (ironically, in Russia the submarine they named “Akula” is what NATO calls “Typhoon”, and the sub NATO and the game calls “Akula” has a different name, and in English the word “Akula” translates to “Shark”) and moving to the Oscar, there was one episode where you fired a type of torpedo you never touched before or again after that since you were low on torpedoes, it had a French sounding name, like “Chival” or “Schival”? I remember you saying “it will miss, but should scare the hell out of this NATO sub” and mentioning it moved extremely fast. What exactly was that torpedo and what is it about? And why wasn’t it used more than that one time? It was not the Russian version of the MOSS, and was painted green. Looked like a telephone pole that ran like a F1 car. I’ve tried googling it, but technology seems to hate me. Can you tell me what it was / the purpose of it? Other than moving fast as heck and not locking on the one time you fired one?
I belive this is the torpedo you are looking for: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VA-111_Shkval
@@BrackenAlistair indeed, this looks like what Wolfpack fired that one time! Very interesting, and no wonder Google was no help, my spelling was way off as I assumed the name was NATO in origin. Thank you!
Side note: I just like learning new things, so yeah.
It's unguided extremely fast torps. It's useful if the enemy is close but practically useless against sub and fast moving and manouvering surface ships. It do pack a punch due to it's speed though
One of my favorites so far, keep up the good work. 👍
100K subscribers! Congrats! Love your series!
When playing the Russian campaign, the real cheat code is to pick a sub that can dive to 600m and just sit at 500m and watch no US torpedo touch it.
I'm a high priest in the cult of the mk 48.
Fresh off the press. Nice.
The Soviet subs may have done snap-shots and then gone to flank, and not been able to hear you on active due to flow noise.
Wooo, congrats on 100k subscribers! You deserve it!
Thank you!
Not bad being in Denmark and going late home from a party and seeing I matched US upload time 🤪
"Blyat" Said the Soviet Captain
You mean the Narwhal is slightly better than an S Boat? lol
Slightly :p
Remember wolfpack +10 means they have detected you +20 means that they have identified you unless you launch a torpedo...
For the next submarine series, would it be possible to do it as the typhoon class? It would be hilarious to see something that big try to do an insertion mission.
Also congrats on the 100k, forgot to add that lol
Great narration . I enjoy a lot these vids.
Thanks for watching!
love watching these ty for posting them up!
Thanks for watching!
I don't understand , you uploaded your usual weekly video of cold waters and I tough by the title and the fact that it's April 1st that there would be a joke but there wasn't soo , why ?
Perhaps that's the joke...
I was uploading this series twice a week originally. Every Wednesday and Friday. I wasn't able to keep this schedule the past 2 weeks because I was busy and also got sick. This upload is me resuming that schedule ;)
@@Wolfpack345 hope things work out !
Really enjoying this series.
I'm glad :)
Dunno if im right but isnt the Oscar in this mod modelled off the oscar 2 , i say this cos its rear rudder has that little off shoot whereas the Oscar 1 doesnt have this .
wolfpack did you forget about ultimate admiral dreadnoughts? the campaign or career mode came out 3 monthes againand the campaign has gotten mutliable updates and when you did the ironclad video you said you would play it when it came out
at 0:38, I thought you said "the infamous Appa-class SSGN" instead of "Papa-class"
yip yip, comrade
Well played sir . Exemplary.
Hey wolf, I just picked up the game on steam sale. Would be nice if you can do a tutorial vid about it? 😁
Great mission today loved it,
Nice run!
Wolfpack are you on the hardest difficulty? Enemy AI on Dot Mod seams to be more Passive in Dot Mod than on Epic mod, even though .Dot mod is more streamlined and realistic imo .
And the Oscar go to the ... bottom
Loving the cold waters videos!!! are there more dcs campaigns coming soon though?
Thx for the great content.
Hey Wolf, only semi related but what would you say is a good game to get into the subsim genre? I've been considering Cold Waters but also maybe one of the Silent hunters games? Maybe 3 cuz ive heard its the best modded. Just wondering what your opinion would be on what game(s) i should try first as you seem very experienced. Thanks! (Edit: Already bought SH3 cuz it was like 3 bucks so not that big of a commitment if i cant get it to work/arent into it lol)
Hey Wolfpack, I'm curious what kinda play through with this mod would a soviet SSGN be like, I have this game but I have no mods.
How do you upload this mod? And can we see you in a future play use any of the soviet SSGNs like the typhoons? Curious if it has you fire missle at land targets or not.
hey worlfpack could u make and post a video for installing Dot Mod ?? the other videos are outdated please help
Great episode.
how do u get the on-screen controls like u have at the bottom of the screen can u tell me how place
did you know that Argonians can breathe underwater.
Great video! Can you play in swedish water with swedis sub?
The enemy active pings are the red ones or the green ones?
So, how many kills is that now? I lost count
Im so close making my dog a fried dog
2024 Series re-watch
Awesome
Jesus, how many soviet subs have you sank at this point?
where can i get this mod for cold waters?
No snake this year :(
How do you deploy the towed Array and have all 3 boat controls on the bottom of the screen. I just got the game and haven't been able to figure it out.
He's using a mod called DotMod. In it, Backspace deploys and retracts the towed array. It also add the UI changes you see.
@@garytwinem5275 Thank you
@@SOLIDJACK The towed array is abstracted in the stock game.
there is russian commander who has you on his list
this game should of had multi player
Hi
GG
100k subs
Obligatory algorithm comment
100k :)
Too short. :(
Lol
this ai makes no sense, they go active they have numerical advantage and they decide to run away instead of fight... man dissapointing
F
I really want to like this game but I have never, not even once seen the AI win in this stupid game. It just looks to me like a Tom Clancy wet dream where the US always wins and the Soviets always lose. Very, VERY hard pass from me.
So play as the Russians.
Russians not doing so good vs Ukraine how would they fare vs NATO?
How do you always hear (See) them before they see you?
