I am late to this, but ppl sleep on Tom, when he has a mark he will shoot high. I am a little surprised we have not seen a televised 300 from him yet. Everyone likes to bring up his 100, but not everyone can be like Lavoie or Pepe by shooting the front 11 the first time of TV. He was bowling on a really difficult pattern, left so many splits, and ultimately had fun that game. Tom saying “He cant beat me” was his way of keeping a positive attitude when bowling against someone like Belmo. If he tells himself Belmo cant beat him he is able to keep his nerves low and stay ahead in future matches.
