Been to Antietam twice (member of ABT). They last time I was there re-enactors were firing canons by the Dunkard church. (2010?). Started watching Ken Burns' Civil War last night in honor of Ed Bearrs. RIP Mr.Bearrs.

In 1987, the 125th anniversary battle used the upper bridge as a stand in for Burnside bridge. If you watch the old video of that event you'll see me dangling my feet in the water next to upper bridge. I was one of the few who completed the a.p. hill march from harpers ferry and my feet were so sore that I could barely walk thus the reason I had them in the creek. Lot of good memories. Old and crippled now and I've always wanted to go back to Sharpsburg so I'm really enjoying these videos. Thanx for doing them. And hello from decatur, alabama.

Unique that Garry would mention "A Bridge Too Far". September 17, 1944 is when Operation Market-Garden commenced.

Sherman said "Atlanta is ours and fairly won." Sherman after his March to the sea wrote Lincoln and said "I beg to present the city of savanna as a Christmas gift."

I love Civil War Quizzes - and, I'm a Scot.
"Patriot Grave" - Lincoln, First Inauguration - "The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land"
"Proposition that" - Lincoln; Gettysburg Address - "Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal"
"Christmas Gift" - Sherman to Lincoln - Capture of Savannah (end of March to the Sea) - "I beg to present you as a Christmas gift, the city of Savannah, with one hundred and fifty heavy guns and plenty of ammunition, and also about twenty-five thousand bales of cotton"
"Fairly won" - Sherman to Lincoln - fall of Atlanta - "Atlanta is ours, and fairly won"

    Patriot grave
“The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearth-stone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”
    ― A. Lincoln

Since we lost Shelby Foote, the Civil War historian, author & narrator of Ken Burns PBS Civil War epic, Dennis Frye is THE guy to listen to for Civil War history. He is the most knowledgeable, passionate and engaging speaker you will ever encounter. A living, breathing fountain of Civil War history. He literally has Civil War DNA in his blood, as a descendant of the Poffenberger family. And one of the few remaining members of the Dunkers.
If you are a Civil War Buff, do yourself a huge favor. Go on RUclips, search his name, and compile a library of his Civil War videos. Hours & hours of spellbinding information sure to rivet you to your device. Enjoy!
    And, Thanks for sharing, Dennis...

“I am loth to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battle-field, and PATRIOT GRAVE, to every living heart and hearthstone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.” -President Abraham Lincoln.
His first inaugural address. He was trying to appeal to the southern states to peacefully resolve recession but was taking a firm stance that the union would fight to stay intact.
Keep the videos coming! Enjoying the different perspectives and little known details that add so much to the overall story of the battle!

Worth noting that by positioning Hookers Corps on the Hagerstown Pike on the 16th, it blocked Lee's route to Pennsylvania.

I wonder how much of these brave mens bodies are still part of the soil and how much became part of some other life form? Is there one or two elements or molecules which are now part of my body?

All known bodies were removed long ago, but now and then they find one that was missed. The last one found was in 2008 in the North Woods area.

The guy who is speaking initially needs a change of tone. On several of the videos it is clear he is frustrated with the people who are uninformed or believe common misconceptions about the civil war. I’m a big civil war fan and these battlefield trust videos, but the tone taken with the audience is frustrating.
