Cons: 1) Long flights to lower-48 and only a few direct flights to Seattle each day. 2) Wildfire smoke can be dense some summers 3) Mosquitoes 4) Winter rain causing an ice glace on the roads 5) Fairly short hunting season for moose Sept 1-15 in some units, waterfowl Sept 1 until marsh freezes in early October. 6) Short construction season yet family and friend all want to visit during summer!
Be there in 2 months Lord willing. Driving from Ohio and staying until the end of Aug. I can't wait for the Northern Lights!!! 2025 is supposed to be the best year for them! Praise Him Ty Father for this gift! Shalom 😇

There is no way i could take that cold of temperatures. I'm in Pennsylvania and can't take the cold here but i stay in mostly in the winter. Alaska for me is a good place to visit but not live in. You know what is best to do up there. It's good you are putting these types of videos out so people thinking of the move know what to expect. We traveled across Alaska for a month from mid September to mid October starting far south up to Livengood and the beginning of the Dalton Hwy. Loved all 3000 mi. of it. Considering retirement in Alaska but can't decide where .
Fairbanks is nice, you get some development but still lots of wildlife and nature. Great small town feel, lovely auroras and snow. Neat community things in the winter. Not too busy, not too barren. But not everyone can handle the cold of the interior.
Leather gloves are the best for winter for sure Billy. I’m quite certain that we have similar daylight here in Ontario. Hug them pugs. Have you ever done a video on why you and Dee left Cuba? Interesting point on the air quality. We passed on the moose harvest this year, it’s okay though. We didn’t harvest the females. 75 pounds is a good garden harvest, aiming for more also. It’s very much different when you don’t live locally to stores and don’t have your own livestock.
@tbcy3zj Not all of Alaska has 24hrs of darkness. I'm in Wasilla Alaska and the shortest the days get in the winter is light at 10am and gets dark at 3:30pm.
Wow! 40 below?! Is it dangerous to breathe air that cold? Ive been in negative 4 in South Dakota before but I was just passing through. I can't imagine living in that for half the year. Your channel brings the unknown to the curious! Thanks!
Dry cold is way different than wet cold. And our bodies can only feel the extreme cold or heat to a certain point. It does make it dangerous. You can breathe in it but you want to cover things like ears, nose and fingers, and don’t stay out in it for long.

Temps get into the 90s in summer, and most folks don't have air con. The fruit here has almost no flavor. Options for entertainment are very limited and unsatisfying. The women are.... large. And the worst thing is that there's an EXTREMELY high level of incompetence in every sector. Doctors, dentists, repairmen, restaurants, the university, box stores, etc. very often are run by or employ people who have no idea what they're doing and have bad customer service. They only stay in business because options are so limited here. It's so frustrating.
When you mention the outhouse and hauling water, are you living OFF GRID? Also, is it true that North Pole has PFAS contaminated ground water as I've been told by some locals while visiting there from Wasilla??
I have electricity, but no other services 😁. Regarding the ground water contamination in North Pole, there are significant groundwater contaminants dec.alaska.gov/spar/csp/sites/north-pole-refinery/property/
I like to be alone . I moved to alaska thinking i can take it because im not really social . Im starting to feel the effects of isolation and its making me miss the big city. I already hate that feeling . And im in anchorage. If i cant take this. Nobody can 😢
Anchorage has a population of 288,000 people, you should probably get out more, go to the parks along the water front, go to costco, etc. Hope that helps!

It's so true Anchorage is considered the SEATTLE OF THE NORTH same rain, same traffic issues, same commute issues where most people live in eagle river, Wasilla, palmer and big lake and commute to Anchorage for work EVERYDAY over a 1 hour commute. It's no wonder there are dozen car fatal pileups every year on the highway!!

Alaska has 24 hour darkness in winter and 24 hour daylight in summer. That does not compare to ontario, at all.

We have the same problem in rural Oregon. I think this problem exist in all somewhat rural places.
