@quaternio OK; I agree that a meme needn’t be either good or evil to thrive, but I said that the paradigm is evil by which I meant that the tribe, religion, sect, denomination applying its global view to everyone outside of its small universe results in evil being done. Also note that “to have faith” or “to believe in” are verbs describing actions which do mind damage and are therefore evil.
My partner who can't let go of her belief in the christian god will attest to this. She knows that it is very unlikely that there were talking snakes and men who walk on water but the thought of denying the god's existance scares her terribly and causes her to lash out at me draw a fence between us. At all other times, we can discuss everything objectively and openly. She even understands why she feels that way. It's a painful kenundrum.
I think Adams is wrong in a way - I think there IS a reason we don't challenge religion, but it is unspoken. Religion is the ultimate expression of cowardice and ignorance, and to criticise someone for being cowardly and/or ignorant is unsympathetic.
Brilliant quote from a brilliant man.
@smariot, Yes it does. and if a person is fortunate enough to have an inquiring mind, it will be unlearned in good time.
So true.
Ironically, an evolution-less theory; has evolved to protect itself.
Nice work Jesus, Nice.

What book is this from?
The sad thing is it seems that Douglas's point is becoming more relevant as time goes on...
Don't you DARE insult Douglas Adams. look at that negative eight! Don't you dare insult one of the best scifi comedian authors of all time!
What does that MEEUUNN?!?!
Debate the absurdity called religion. Nothing, absolutely nothing, should be respected "just because"!

Slightly ironic for this comment to be on this video. Hah.
