    insane. I would never buy a robo that expensive! you could buy a DMG dmu 95 with like $100k worth of tooling and $100k worth of vices and benches and whatnot for less than 800k??? perhaps if you have a need to a ton of small parts and whatnot it might be worth it. Robos have their place. I worked on them for 2 years. They are fast but not very rigid or much power. you have to utilize dynamic toolpaths (mastercam) or whatever it's called in fusion. Adaptive clearing i think.

    • @ConourManufacturing
      @ConourManufacturing  8 месяцев назад +1

      So the sticker price was $515k which included 65k in work holding and 14k in tooling. The 800k is once you include all the interest and property taxes over the next 5 years, along with software to operate it.
      Every machine purchase is very specific to the shop and type of work. What that DMG could not do is smash out 60 hours of work every weekend with no one in the shop. It can't run throughout the night, while the shop is empty. If you start to calculate all of the available working hours, of this automated machine. You can not push the volume of work through the DMG that this Robo can blow through. Along with the fact that per your example of 200k in vises/tooling you would be at a minimum of 800k after financing for that DMG 95. Thanks for following along and contributing to the discussion.

      @@ConourManufacturing yea i worked at a shop that had about 7 robos. About 4 of them had a larger pallet system that was the entire work table swap out. I think it was m65 to change pallets if I recall correctly. 1 had a larger 4th axis to put a rotary fixture for small parts like what I would imagine you are going to run. 1 didnt even have the high speed machining option so dynamic toolpaths were a no go on that one. I see what you are getting at. It really depends on the parts and the customers. Although I see why people do that style of tabbing the part "window machining" as you called it. A lot of parts I have made wouldn't be good to do that. The parts do move and flex a bit so any datum features are not a good idea to finish that way. One of my co workers did something like that then glued a block to the parts and cut them dry to remove the part in 1 op. I was not a fan and called it the kamikaze maneuver. My dmg scenario was more of an extreme example. I didn't realize your cost was interest and taxes for 5 years. I really liked the DMG CMX 50u that I was running for the last 2.5ish years or so. Different parts though. All for a large aerospace company. All prototype with lot sizes rarely exceeding 10 parts. Any machine can have a robot arm or pallet system added. All cnc's have some type of auxiliary code. I have even seen HAAS rotaries inside robo drills. The rotary just waited for the auxiliary output then it did its thing. I remember running one of the robo's at like 15k rpms and 500ipm haha. It was so loud and fun. Nobody was at the shop, I was there all alone all weekend. This setup reminds of how @JohnGrimsmo has his kern setup. Good luck!

      65 total tool pockets. 1 tool pocket has to stay empty in the turret, so the robot can pull from the addition tools if necessary. So 64 working tools can called up at any given time.
