The nightmare of the triple room still haunts me 30 years later.
hahaha me too and it’s only been a few years 🤣
I’m applying there now, I grew up in a room with two older brothers so I think I can handle a triple room😅
Oh wow. They added 2 buildings in the renovations. I went to Cal in 1991-1996. Each unit only had the 4 high rises. And each unit had their own Dining Commons. There was only a small study center, and no gym or computer center. Also, we had no card-operated laundry.
That’s pretty cool to see how things have changed! Go bears! 🐻
I enjoyed Blake’s commentary
Eva Helfter thank you!! 😌
Thank you! So helpful CO’2024
Darwin, B. Perez thanks for watching! Congrats!!🎊🎉

What no Cal T-shirt on You!? Dude Cal is Like my No.#1 TEAM Man The "1st College" I Ever Got to Visit. But I'm From Santa Rosa, CA.
Thanks for this as this was very helpful And gives me some Solace as my freshman stepson will be leaving to Cal this weekend.
Thanks for watching!! Good luck to your stepson moving into college! So exciting!
@@rachel_lin thank you! This must be an adjustment to say the least. I don’t think I could’ve dormed with complete strangers and different personalities lol. What recommendations would u suggest on what rules and responsibilities roommates can discuss and if there are issues how to go about them?
@@MsMm79 Definitely, the transition from having your own bedroom or sharing with siblings to sharing a super small space with strangers is new for a lot of students!
At the beginning of the year, the Resident Assistant (RA) will have all roommates fill out a Roommate Agreement that talks about rules for the room, cleanliness, turning of the lights, sharing items, noise etc - so that is a good way for students to discuss rules and how they want to live and share the space. Students then sign the agreement. Definitely take this Roommate Agreement seriously (many students don't and then run into problems later haha), because if any issues do arise, the roommate agreement will be the basis for conversation with the RA or Resident Director (RD, like the supervisor for the entire dorm) if a room-transfer is needed or super big issues arise. Hope this helps!
@@rachel_lin again thank u for being such a great help! I truly appreciate it! I know I’m annoying with the questions but when I asked my stepson his head was in the clouds lol typical boy lol. Anyhow he’ll be staying in Wada. Which I couldn’t find to much information on. Anything I might need to know about those?
@@MsMm79 Of course, good luck! Haha sounds like my brother. Wada is apartment-style so it may be less social than the traditional-style dorms because of the many doors that separate you from your neighbors. Definitely go to the RA's free events to meet people, make friends, and get free food or other free things! Wada is in unit 2, so walking back there late at night can be a little sketchy, so taking the night safety shuttle (Bear Transit) is useful, or purposefully walk a longer way back to avoid People's Park. People usually cut through Underhill Parking Garage (the parking garage next to unit 2) to get to Unit 2 during the day, but maybe at night, walk around it and not through it. Be mindful of your surroundings if you are walking around late at night!
Please do a tour of unit 3!
I will try!! :)
@@rachel_lin whats ur friends instagram

Unit 3 sucks
Dude I stayed in the same hostel , same floor and the room you viewed during summer 2018. Beautiful town XD
Omg hahah what a small world!! I miss Berkeley 😍🥰
Thank you! This was so helpful :))
I'm an incoming international freshman and I got a unit 1 triple, is there any space in the room to keep our suitcases or should I bring bags only?
Thank you!! I'm an out of state student who lived in a Unit 3 triple my freshman year, I brought 2 suitcases and 1 bag. I was able to store the suitcases through hanging them off of our bunk bed using a bungee cord haha. So yes, there would be space to store a few luggages, but you may need to be creative. In one of my move out videos (ruclips.net/video/f4u2SsjNzKE/видео.html), you can see my suitcases are the kind where the smaller one can be stored inside of the larger one - so having luggage like that can help you save space and store it easier!
hii ankit singh , am a undergrad student like final year and have chosen masters in usa and UCB is in my list so if u have some time can we have a discussion about the university please, if you are let me know , thank you
THis helped my friend Abby decide between CashU and Berkely! go golden bears!
Aw thank you for watching! Congrats to your friend 🤗🐻
why is the view from the laundry room so... p r e t t y
Starrlite haha right! 😂
i just noticed this was uploaded on my birthday haha
Aw yay happy early birthday for this upcoming year 🥳🤣
Im getting a strong feeling you brought a lot of your stuff to school 😆
Owen Pampo hahaha I think compared to others I didn’t have a lot since I’m out of state. On move in days, I’ve seen kids come with like 2 cars full of stuff... that is way too much 😅
@rachel_lin 7:12 Please update video - The Cal 1 Card no longer works with laundry. You can use a regular credit or debit card.
I feel so welcome!
Kevin Yi just like Bowles Hall!!!
@@rachel_lin just like having an aunt on campus who's so caring and amazing!
This building is so much nicer than mine was 😂
Nice video!! 😍 I subscribed..❤
sathish Kumar Thank you!!! ❤️
Hi I was wondering.. if a student lives in Blackwell and has dishes/utensils to clean, can they use their key/card thing to enter unit 3's common area kitchen to wash their dishes/utensils there?
pop bubble unfortunately that would not be possible because the key you’d get at move in is only for your specific dorm/building in the Unit. All of the high rises in the Units have a kitchenette area on their ground floors. I would presume that there is a common kitchenette in Blackwell because it is dorm style, otherwise there would be no place for students to bake or cook if they wanted to.
Is there routinely dorm checks by the staff of the building? Do we have our own privacy?
Good question! The cal housing staff checks rooms once a semester to make sure all rules are being followed. The RAs do room checks at the end of fall semester before winter break to make sure everyone left and that their room is the way it’s supposed to be when the dorms close for break. So other than those times, RAs or Cal Housing don’t enter your room unless you invite them in or have a maintenance request or something that requires someone to come in to fix something. Hope this helps!
Hi hopefully going to Berkeley 2021! Which dorms do you reccomend for incoming freshman?
Woooo good luck!! Check out this other video of mine where I break down all the dorm options more in depth: ruclips.net/video/dfZDs2c-Skc/видео.html. But basically, most freshman live in Units 1,2,3, Foothill, Clark Kerr, or Blackwell. Let me know if you have any other questions 😁
Miss it 20yrs ago. Nothing changed.
Oh wow! Miss it too, only 3 years out :')
I want to ask if the communal bathroom is usually cramped, especially the showers. Or when are the showers usually cramped?
It depends on the time of day and the people in your dorm! Mornings and evenings might be more crowded since people usually shower at those times. Less crowded at random times in the afternoon!
Do you recommend we don't bring hardcase luggage (carry-on size and one size up)? Will there be space to store them?
If you live far away from home, I would bring hardcase luggage as it would be easier to travel back and forth! I brought the carry on and regular size suitcase as well as a large duffel. The carry on could be stored inside the regular suitcase. If you live closer to home, you could just leave a carry on size suitcase at the dorm so you can bring stuff home when you go back.
You can probably find space to store them under the bunkbed, in the closet, or other places around the room. My freshman year in a Unit 3 triple, I hung my suitcases off the side of the bunkbed in the corner of the room.
@@rachel_lin Thank you!😊
Thank u for this vedio!!!! I live in west bank😕 and i will travel to live in America in the next year, i will complete my university education at this university, but I am afraid because I do not know the places in it and I do not know the system,, What can I do?? Can you give me any advise?? ❤️🥺

Usually what’s the process for getting roommates? It it blind or are you allowed to choose?
You can choose your roommate(s) or you can go random! If you know someone that you want to room with, on the housing application you and those students would all need to request one another. Choosing the same housing options for your choices also helps the chance of being placed together. You could also go random and you'd fill out a quick survey asking questions like what time do you go to bed, how clean are you etc and it will pair you with roommates. Hope this helps!
hi im moving into a unit 1 standard double and i was just wondering do our dorms come with a mini fridge and microwave?
Looks like the mini fridges and microwaves come with the residence hall rooms now housing.berkeley.edu/my-room. It used to be that you had to rent the set through the university if you wanted a fridge and microwave!
@@rachel_lin thank you so much! i love your videos btw very helpful
Just curious, if we live in a suite do we clean the bathrooms ourselves?
There is custodial staff who comes in and cleans the mini-suite and apartment bathrooms once a week! This may have been changed due to the pandemic though.
@@rachel_lin Thank you!
Are you able to take apart the beds?
Aaron Lee You can submit a request for maintenance to take apart the bunk bed. However, in triples, there is no room for you to take the bunk bed apart, as in 3 single beds won’t fit on the floor space. In triples where there is enough floor space, the beds are already separated so there are no bunk beds (for example, in Clark Kerr the premium triples have no bunk beds, but that’s why they cost more money). Hope this helps!
I got unit 1 RH Std Double. What does std stand for, anyone know?
I think it means standard, so RH Std is Residence Hall Standard Double!
Why don't American showers have any mirrors in the booth???
Hm I actually don’t know a specific reason. Could be an American thing? Growing up, even the showers at the gym for the pools I would go to for swim team would not have mirrors in the shower stalls. Are mirrors in the shower stalls a norm for you?
Do they offer the dorm to everyone?
Hmm so I would say yes and no. Cal Housing does not "guarantee" housing for freshmen. In the past, they have been able to offer a housing option to everyone who filled out the housing application correctly and on-time. However, the housing option you are given may not be any of your top choices. Recently with the pandemic, there has been more demand for on-campus housing than available with covid restrictions and sophomores wanting to live on-campus since they did not have the "freshman experience" last year when classes were online. At Berkeley, typically after freshman year, a majority of students move off-campus. Hope this helps! Let me know if you had any other questions :)
Can you detach the bunks
Ardella Ovuede I think you can request it via maintenance. But to have 3 beds on the floor there is really no room to walk around.
Rachel Lin ok thx
I want English subtitles
Plz someone make it
I’m Japanese
あえ I think I just turned on subtitles! Let me know if it doesn’t work 😊
I just watched zozens of videos about homeless students in berkely and UCLA ,
University of California. My dream
tarek elshenawy good luck with applications 🥰🤓
No single dorms ??
Martin Barragan there are single rooms available for students with ADA or other accommodations, but for the most part, single rooms are only found in the apartment-style living, and not in the traditional dorm or mini suite options that are found in the Units😀
i don’t have friends either
whats the boys instagram @4:30
