I disagree that Mischa was a bad actress. She was really amazing in this role. She portrayed perfectly the depressed teenager who despite having good intentions was always in bad situations due to her surroundings most of the time. The writers made her an outlet for all the bad things that they wanted to happen in the show. She was just lost, a lot had happened to her and she couldn’t bring herself afloat. The writers keep taking turns putting them in different relationships so Marissa and Ryan could not be together - this was the main plot of the show, whether or not they would get together. Summer and Seth dynamic got repetitive. There wasn’t enough drama to keep the viewers wondering what would happen with them. We all knew they would be together at the end.
I utterly agree with you : it was non sense that she had doubt about ryan and johnny afrer all they went through as a couple, even because she forgot johnny litterally the episode next of his dead. In my opinion she really gave depth to her character and she improved a lot from season 1 to season 3 as an actress, but the writer always made her the weak links of the couple and the only one to be saved in the end . Imo she could have been one the most interesting characters of the show

If we are going by the first two seasons, Marissa is a far better person than Summer and I realize it more everytime I rewatch. People talk about Marissa and Ryan being toxic as a couple, when it was Seth and Sumner who became downright intolerable, particularly in season 2. I agree that season 3 sucks. As for why did guys fall for Marissa? She was kind, not superficial, gave everyone a chance regardless of their circumstance, had good taste in music, fashion, and the obvious, she was so fucking gorgeous
I legit just finished the oc like 10 minutes ago and the show got better once Marissa left and then because the show got cancelled the series ending was rushed. However, Taylor and Ryan is great they better eachother.
Taylor & Ryan were so forced and didn’t have chemistry. She liked him more than he liked her. Taylor & Luke would’ve been a good couple if he came back. If Marissa didn’t die, her & Ryan would’ve definitely gotten back together and been endgame
I agree Marissa is annoying. I can see why guys flock to her but, being in a relationship with a girl like her is hell. She always puts her relationships on the back burner. As soon as she gets with someone it’s like she pushes them away because she has them. She needed to learn how to set boundaries between the relationships she had. If she had, Ryan and her wouldn’t have had so many problems. Even her other love interests literally with every one of her relationships she gets close with someone else while putting her partner on the backburner. She isn’t relationship material and writing her off the show was honestly the best thing for her character she was off the walls for a season and a half. The best couple in the show were the Cohens no debate and Seth and Summer were a close second.

Summer was NOT great! She was awful until she started hanging out with Seth & Ryan and learned to let her better self out. (I will never forget how her supposed best friend left her girl passed out on her lawn without even turning her head in case she pukes, whereas an almost stranger *Ryan* carries her to a safe spot to sleep it off- not out in the open- so her parents won't find her and she won't get hurt.) Marissa would've been fine if she had just chose Ryan sooner and stayed with him plus got herself some HELP cuz she def had problems no matter who she dated. Still ship her & Ryan tho😢❤

Summer had good character development 💯 Plus she wasn’t originally supposed to be a main character, but she carried the show . She started out as a popular girl who partied and had a mean streak and was a bit shallow, but she became a kinder person throughout the series and put her party girl days behind her. I think Marissa OD’ing in Mexico in season 1 was a big start to her character development. It showed that there is more than meets the eye with Summer and she was a good friend for cutting Holly out of her life when she was kissing Luke behind Marissa’s back
Gotta blame the writers of the show. They got lazy by season 3. They should’ve replaced the writers with fresh new writers for season 3. The same tired ones kept giving us the same tired storylines of dragging Marissa through the mud and having every guy crush on her with Ryan always saving her. Don’t know any guy that would do that repeatedly without finally saying F off.
I liked season 3 because summers and Seth developed. Marissa’s feelings and desires are not being acknowledged from her inviroment, especially Ryan and Julie cooper. Instead of having a conversation with her, where friends and family raise there concerns about Marissas situation, Ryan himself or other characters of the show, Like Julie encourage Ryan to step in. Marissa never even made a meaningful live decision in the early seasons. She was always passive, waiting that some manages her stuff or making a decision for her … no wonder, that’s the only thing she has learned. Julie cooper, her mom, wanted her children safe and financially taken care of and living in luxury was her solution for that matter. This is one part i think why Marissa is so fucked up. Second reason is there her mom is highly manipulative and encourages shallow standards for the children. The father is a pathological liar and both parents want the best for the children but can’t take conflicts or crisis So the family crumbles. They never learn to deal with conflict or learn from problems etc. Marissa should have taken a job, like Ryan did, when her family got poor, in summer break to help out her family instead of get caught up in boys drama. But there was no one there to teach her how to be more self reliant or strong… Not even Ryan encouraged her , evenso he grew up poor and knows how the world without beeing rich functions …. He just treated her like a broken princess . Ryan and Marissa were always caught in there mis communication and commitment issues or Ryan in his pushing people away, instead of learning how to be there for each other and be inspiring and supportive as friends or couple. Instead of facing there real issues and trauma there just created drama …. Marissa and Ryan didn’t seem ready to be in a relationship. But there chemistry is great so. :)
