Ace, thank you for being an idol for me these past two years. Your immaculate presentation and execution was something I always strived to emulated. You were an inspiration I used for my ongoing involvement in the community. I always looked forward to watching your daily videos, and for that, thank you.
What kills me the most and brings me to tears is that we won’t have this remarkable platform of a game to bring us and the rest of the community together. Absolutely rips my heart apart.

Paragon died because Epic Games moved all their employees to develop Fortnite instead of Paragon... Now that I think of it, Paragon never actually released, it’s still in Beta. RIP Paragon

  • @danieldanby6237
    @danieldanby6237 6 лет назад +8

Paragon lost its tier 1 tower with the release of Monolith - ridiculous attack speeds and a higher movement speed on a smaller map created instant issues. The fans loved legacy and instantly missed it.
They lost their tier two tower with the new card system - 3-card builds banished originality - these huge changes made existing players leave, and the new players had no true tutorials or training modes to familiarise themselves with the game.
Their inhibitors went down with broken patches that broke the game - characters desperately needing a nerf or buff and it taking months to solve. Lack of ranked and poor matchmaking
algorithms created a disparity in skill and experience levels, leading to frustrating and toxic match ups.
In my opinion, they never lost their core, but they voted to surrender. They didn’t play as a team. They never reached their ‘Prime’. And as a result, they won’t proceed to their reward.
    Return to the void. 😔

Hi, I was reading through the comments and someone suggested that you should try the souls games or the last of us and I just wanted to tell you why I watched your videos. It was because of those "THEY AIN'T NOTHING!!!" moments. When you would outplay them and then scream something funny like that. I liked those moments a lot, and every video had at least one of them. I'm not sure if you can have moments like that in single player games.
True story: Was playing Paragon in solo q and we were losing. One team member, after dying, said "Feels bad man" and I said "RGSACE: Feels bad man..." and another team member said "THEY AIN'T NOTHING!!". We bonded over this catchphrase of yours and we won that game.
This is not to say you shouldn't try single player games on your channel. I was just saying why I liked your Paragon videos.

well said, rip paragon you will be deeply missed and who knows.... as Epics vision might get clearer in the future, maybe a Paragon 2 will arrive :) but I wonder why they are shutting it down, people are still playing the game? Why not just leave it as an "un-updated" game and keep it rolling for people that are enjoying the game, why a complete shut down? Thats what I wanna know... if anyone have any ideas on why that is not possible lemme know. Does the servers cost too much to keep online? Is it impossible to make a "offline" game version? Enlighten me please :) thanks

All these team fights ... ones that don't end in the blink of an eye is what kept me in this game. The graphics, the characters and the map drew me in ... but this gameplay (Legacy) is what sealed the deal.
I never liked Monolith, but I never quit hoping to see a version of the game that would match or surpass Legacy Paragon. What do I have to show for it? A year of waiting for something that was never going to happen, a broken heart seeing this thing I loved die and crushing disappointment because I will never experience this again. At least I found you Ace :)

The fact that the community was begging for Legacy should have ment something to Epic. I never played a MOBA before in my life. The bigger stage allowed me to figure it out. It was a slower paced game, which gave you time to figure it out. Seeing how it was a MOBA on ps4, a lot of players needed that time. Of I hadn't gotten some of the basics down while playing Legacy, Monolith would has driven me away (It did for a lil bit). They should have had two stages. The bigger stage with longer game times, then the smaller stage, faster and condensed. The fact they were so stubborn to not listen to half of the player base, is the reason they lost half of the play base that never came back. I came for Paragon but I'm staying because of you.

all solid arguments that i agree with. They lost a lot of their loyal fans "founders" when they switched to monolith since it was a completely different game. To make it even worse, the new players that were to play this game quickly left after a few matches. with the terrible matchmaking and imbalanced game play, etc. Epic were essentially ruining their game but their "data" indicated otherwise.
i think i can speak for all of the community here in that we feel betrayed.

It is really sad. I wish I had a chance to play Legacy map, but more importantly, I truly believe if they TRULY wanted Paragon to succeed they would've listened to the suggestions of you and Sylphin and Lordy. Honestly, they just threw in the towel because they felt it wasn't worth working on or putting the work into, and that is bad since US the community was willing to do what it takes to make it succeed. Really heartbroken to hear you not say the end of the video just now smoothly, really it does. Keep it up though Champ, I'm sure the path you choose next, will be an amazing one, and we WILL follow you

I don’t know what epic was thinking when they released V42, they lost players when they removed Legacy, and then they cahnge, not only the map but the card system as well, no existing paragon player wanted that but they did it anyway. I hope epic can learn from this mistake and actually listen to their fans in the future

SpetZemas too be honest, coming from being a dota and league player paragons card system wasn't for me. I liked the new version. Not too say I didn't get the old one, but it was so static, the new card system was fun, fresh and unique even if they did take card ideas from dota or league.

  • @McStan
    @McStan 6 лет назад +2

Epic just didn't know what they were doing with Paragon, they changed the game drastically 3 or 4 times so it was clear they were lost, really they should have just copied SMITE and added their own twist on it with the card system just like they copied PUBG with Battle Royale and added the building mechanic. I feel like they wanted to be a MOBA at first and later wanted be more like Overwatch because of how popular Overwatch was.

Rgs, you are spot on. My group of paragon friends also agree. I knew that moving away from the Legacy map was the downfall of the game. I almost quit playing as soon as they did that. I carried on only because my friends played Paragon and I hoped that one day I could swallow or stomach the new map but I never did, not like Legacy. I always missed Legacy and not because I was stubborn and not because I wasn't willing to change but because I loved the map, everything about it. I said to everybody recently that epic ought to release a open server version of legacy just like Counter-Strike or other games like that and let people make their own forum rules Etc. and game rules, and ultimately save the game. And I maintain that view and will always maintain that view. I was emotionally and deeply invested in to Paragon, it was the worst gaming experience I ever had that they shut it down but mainly that they moved from it from Legacy. That hurt the most. Then the card changes sealed it's fate. They had a perfect game going with Legacy, a completely unique and different gaming experience that I fell in love with and would still play today. I say bring back Legacy, bring back paragon.

We'll never forget Paragon and we'll never forget you, RGSACE! Even though I have only a measly 112 RUclips subscribers I too built my youtube channel on Paragon and now I too feel lost. I think I'll likely get back to playing a lot of Gigantic, Monster Hunter, and For Honor, but it'll never be the same. I never played another MOBA before Paragon and I don't think I'll ever play another after it unless another dev, inspired by all that Paragon did for the MOBA genre, takes the concept and runs with it.

Scrapping Paragon entirely was just shocking. No resources to put in it at all? Following the 2018 roadmap was probably all they needed to fix many issues.

Personally I don't blame Fortnite for the ending Paragon but I do feel that Fortnite's success did allow them to give up on the game sooner. If they were entirely invested I think they would've asked us sooner on what to do. But I more so blame the arrogance of Epic. I felt like they were too sure of themselves with every update instead of asking and polling what their players wanted, it's Epic's game but in the end we decide if the game is worth are time or not. Either way I still love your channel and I was actually in the middle of your Fortnite video before I saw this. (I'm just not really a br fan. ) Either way I don't think Epic will be getting anymore of my money till I see a game I can support also where I find their vision is completely cemented.

  • @lukasdskrause

Ace I have to disagree. Fortnite killed Paragon. Without Fortnite Epic would try to save their own game. They asked the community and the community answered like Sylphin with his tutorials. But Fortnite showed them how to make easy money. And because this they disrespect their own community. Its a shame. And for me they are dead.
As a developer u can't give up ur own game. And also not if ur community will help u. Epic has no respect. If they have respect they would sell Paragon or try to listen unstead shutting down. And if I could I would buy Paragon with my time of my life #justmoneyrulez #nevereverepic

If they released paragon as the old legacy version i would go back and play every single day, as i have in the past before monolith. I miss the card system, they tried to do too much to the game when it was already a success. Orb dunk was great, the cards were clear and didnt take hours of studying and playing to be able to understand what they did and how to use them. The characters were more versitile, if i wanted to build gideon tanky.. i could.. and i would still be viable to the team... its just sad that epic couldnt just leave a good thing alone. I feel, unfortunately, they will end up killing BR as well. By adding too much content as far as weapons and health supplies.. i feel like they wont know when to stop there either. I have so much respect for the development team, i do not however have respect for the people calling shots to add way to much to the game just to milk money out if their loyal playerbase. I will predict epic games will also kill BR sooner rather than later.

I remember in 2016 my friends that played early open beta Paragon would talk about it everyday, stay up all night when updates came out, (it irritated the whole group). I had enough and wanted to know what was so good about it, so I went over to one of my Friends house and played a match. I fell in love I never had played a game like that this before it was fun and just bought entertainment and whole new experience.
I saved a up enough of my money to buy a PS4 and the first I did was download paragon and play with my mates, I remember getting my first loot crate and getting undertow Gideon and having my friends fucking lose it and one of them being extra salty cause he spent 30 dollars getting the skin.
Now as time went on we played and loved Paragon, some of my friends didn’t like monolith but they grew to like it.
We’d stay up all weekend playing, we’d annoy our parents and suffer being tired af school the next day (worth lol). I remember I wasn’t the best and I wanted to get better, I found your channel and you Ace helped me become better, you made show up my friends, with decks and showed me that if you do this and have that game sense it leads to victory’s. You made my Paragon a better experience.
Now come to the new card system and about 3-4 of my friends stop playing, they hated the change, we all did. I tried to get used to it but it wasn’t the same, having 3-4 friends and 20 PSN friends stop playing wasn’t fun, so I quit playing it. But I couldn’t delete it had a special place in my heart and even I though I haven’t played in a good few months it has a special place in my heart.
Thank you Ace for making this game great, I wish you all the best in future content and will continue to watch

    Did fortnite kill paragon?
The answer- No, epic did. They changed too much, rarely released a decent patch that actually fixed more than it broke, and they never would stay with one game layout. Too many restarts, and not enough foward progression.

I agree with your comments RGSACE, I think they shot themselves in the foot with a lot of the decisions they made. It's a cop out to just blame Fort-nite and try kid ourselves that the game was good or going in a definite direction. Keep up with your Chanel ACE, you'll always be the 5 time champ to us. Now if you can talk to Epic about getting me a Paragon Hoodie... that'd be great (I tweeted them but got nothing... xD)

Match times of an hour+ were exhilarating because it meant your builds were on point and you had to outskill and outplay you opponents.
V27 was phenomenal I played Bruiser Grux and dominated as him.
Monolith was too damage focused and it got better towards V42 until V42.
As once again, carries carried but were squishy, Tanks were tanky but dealt low damage (except Sevarog who was late game focused.)
Supports helped make the deciding plays.
It got good again then died... again. :(
I hope they revive it in the future with better planning, a clear vision and taking community input from high mmr players as the grounds to balance it upon.

My biggest problem was when they released Monolith, they never let it have a chance. They instantly went to work on a new card system, and we ended up getting half assed balance patches for about a year. Then just when Paragon hit its height around PEX, Epic introduced the new card system, and effectively killed any and all momentum they just built up. Old players quit playing, new players didnt care, and numbers got so low that they pulled the plug.

I only started playing just after monolith was released and since then i thought it was pretty clear where the game was going. Especially once the updates/hero releases became less frequent i kinda guessed they would probaly be shutting it down relatively soon.

    Maybe... Maybe not
Yet we can’t know for sure, BR is a worldwide success and making way more money than paragon is making for Epic, but yet Epic ruined this game in their own hands, replacing the map that everyone loved, replacing the card system when no one asked for it and poor hero balance, it’s the fault if Epic, one way or another.

Paragon is an amazing game, the ideas behind the characters and just how much potential it has really gets me sad that they are closing it down. I really hope they have a last minute mind change and give Paragon another opportunity, if not now, hopefully in the future I hope to see Paragon. Thank you Epic for such an amazing game and I hope nothing but the best for Paragons future 😭🙏🏽

O agree like I said. Epic killed it themselves not fortnite. Some of the changes weren't needed. I don't remember even asking for monolith. It seemed like most of the issues came after monolith. I remember travel mode being an issue but there were so many fixes. You could of just only allowed it from the base and boom. Fixed even hots has a travel mode like system. Sigh I miss prime dunks.

    Great Breakdown!
im with here, they failed creating a solid base to build on so they couldn´t get the MOBA essential feat done in time.
Like Ranked mode, pushing the competitive Scene in general.
Too often changes almost from the ground up, confusing and alienating new players several times.
It´s easy to say afterwards - X way would have been better and decision Y was wrong. But,
I think they should have to go with the flow, the way players start playing the game themselves/using the tools epic gave them. Like building on the "Deathball" back in Legacy vanilla. They tried to be a classic MOBA more and more but they brought som many non-classic MOBA players to the game. It was fresh, some new approach to an older getting genre. It felt like the perfect mix of MOBA and Team Deathmatch, the fact that you actually have to deliver the Orp Prime into enemy territory to actually activate it propper.
Paragon hat many great ideas, I think the fear of going to much away from classic MOBA was part of the reason they lost ppl more and more. Sure the old card system was too confusing with upgrades and to many pre-game decisions to make. But well all that analysing doesn´t help...
Fortnite is not the reason, hell no - Epic want and need/want more than one Game being Successful. and no one wanted this game to succeed more than the dedicated Epic Team.
However, I hope they use those greatly designed heroes for something else one day, like a Fighting game :D I will miss my boy steel^^
Thx for all you Paragon Content RGSACE! I wish you all the best for any future Projects and Content, you´re here to stay ;) - keep your head up!!
    regards Knastcore

Awesome video Ace. I think you nailed it on identifying the issues that brought this game down. Was a death by a thousand cuts and it's sad to see a game with so much potential, made by a group of developers with a history of so many amazing games with so much talent let go of it. I just hope that Epic takes the valuable lessons they learned from this game, wipe the slate clean and give us a bigger and better MOBA in a few years. RIP Paragon. You will be missed!

I agree with you completely. I think if fortnite didn't blow up what you said about the game lasting another year before they shut it down would've been exactly what would happen. I like both paragon and fortnite, and to think fortnite is the reason paragon is closing is foolish. It just sped up what was already going to happen. Love your stuff ace, always enjoy your commentary!

If they really loved paragon then why not listen to the community like they are doing with fort nite that just shows that they thought that they knew best even when they were lost on how to move forward. Also the new card system is terrible compare to the old one adc were no longer adc supports did crazy amount of damage everybody could be a tank. I could go on and on but the black hokage says it best go watch his video on the subject.

I disagree. Fortnite killed Paragon for sure. It was said in an article a few weeks ago that half of Epic's Paragon team left to work on Fortnite. Money talks man... they obviously went where the money is and left a dead game behind to die. Another instance is Star Wars Battlefront 2. Because of the lootcrate backlash, sales were hurt and EA didn't get the money they thought they would get with the game Dice created. Updates didn't come in very fast at all and many people left the game because it seemed like Dice or EA didn't care about the game anymore. Balancing needed to be done fast because a few heroes just rofl stomps the competition and to this day those particular Heroes are not nerfed. I left the game because of this and they quit supporting their game they created because the plan they had with lootcrates failed completely.
If games die and no money is coming in.. then companies give up man. They move on working towards other games to try to create something that will get more sales than the last dead game they created.
Sad but true man... Epic took to long to release the game to everyone and couldn't make up their minds on maps or balancing.
Oh well. Was a good run at least.
