Just to let you guys know I did everything right for this one using:
- number as the return type
- 0 as the decimal value
- In the Contract object and not the Contact
- The formula is "EndDate - TODAY()"
- And the API name is "Days_Remaining__c"
But I was still getting the message error "We created a contract and expected the 'Days_Remaining__c' field to show the number of days remaining until the contract end date, but it didn't. Make sure your formula subtracts today's date from the contract end date.".
The solution was to create a new playground (Next to the Lunch button) and do it again and this time it worked.

Just by deactivating any active validation rules it works even in the same playground.
