A swimming pool, and a church, is not an economic system. The blacks in Tunica, as in many black areas and communities need knowledge to irrigate, plumbing skills, building knowledge, and city managerial skills. They need ways to earn a living. Those who feed off of others ignorance, have no intentions of delivering them out of darkness!
I remember this story from Jet Magazine. Driving there was emotionally stressful. While there has been a financial turn around since '85, the hearts must change for the place to change.
@seeker242 Maybe you should read the rest of your bible before judging others. You try coming out of slavery, into sharecropping (another, slightly higher form of slavery), and see how much money and education you have to advocate for yourself in a town which considers segregation 'just tradition'. Additionally, they have a church in their town. I shouldn't have replied to this ignorant post (Proverbs 26:4), but hopefully it will enlighten you.
I have relatives North East Mississippi has white pastor and whites in my family...I have a white pastor in Kansas....I truly wish I could help.....I grewup in Mississippi ....I truly understands lot of these small towns has been ignored..I wish I could fix it....sweet people. 💯💯👈🏾👈🏾
My gf was originally born in Tunica, and I'm from a different state (she's black, I'm white). When I first went down to Tunica for her family reunion, even I could see the divide on each side of highway 61. Even though the casinos improved the economy, de facto segregation sadly seems to be just as present as when segregation was de jure.
This is a result of keeping African Americans from studying and learning white collar work in early history as well as blue collar work, and other skills. Independence of Europeans could be great with proper resources, skilled workers, and exchange of products to other states, and countries.

Keeping your blinders on will only result in an uprising of which no one will survive. We see what we want to see. We do what we want to do. And for some, they practice what others preach to them. One day, when the tides have washed away all prejudice. We will see just how meaningful the phrase, peaceful and equal co-existance, really means.
It's hard to move with no money in the pocket, and no destination where work is to be obtained upon arrival. That's like asking a rat to move from where a house is to out in the woods!
@@waynewilliams5802 I was only saying it takes quite a bit of money to move. Usually, moving trucks cost anywhere between $300-$1000 to move from a place of three hundred miles, or more. To cut utilities on runs $100-$400 to reconnect, and some people still ole on it, and have other debts besides. To move into another place could run over a thousand dollars because deposit is required, and advance rent. Don't get me wrong, anything is possible. They could possibly move with limited trouble. However, consider the fact that they will also have to be accepted into a dwelling place after reference check. I am aware when most people have had enough they find a way to do what needs to be done. Some people are stronger, and will make the move regardless of what they must face to get it done. I'm not sure how old the video is, but by now all those people could have been relocated. That mean that some people required more time to devise a strategy for relocation. I would like an update on their current situation, and to know what can be done for them to live better. I'm not sure you watched the whole video which explains many of the people work long hours and get hardly any money. You sound like one of the people who are oppressing the blacks. Shame on you for speaking that all they want is a hand out. If you are black, you are King of Niggarism! If you're white, you are looking out for your greed. Get on with that foolishness that blacks haven't earned what they receive.
well it ain't like that no more and I would say the folk there liked it that way everybody minded there own business not like now days old black folk had respect and manners now look how it is traditions start in the home and discipline white or black and tunica is awesome and a historic place

Do you have anymore 60 minutes segments/episodes on your channel? I would love to watch them. Thank you much for posting this.

Tunica is 20 miles south of Memphis, why didn't these people move once their services were no longer needed?
