No different from destroyers being able to shrug off direct hits from battleship shells. Capabilities of smaller ships have always been artificially buffed to balance them.

Austin has quickly become my favourite ship in the game, and must say you really nailed the playstyle. Although should mention sap can also still be very effective if you have good aim and specifically aim for superstructure and bows and sterns. I still play colbert too, but you draw so much attention towards yourself and while it may have more armor its a far bigger target and doesnt get overpenned as easily, I generally cannot tank as much in it as I can in austin as long as I dont have to face 460mm. With its high arcs I mostly camp behind islands with colbert, while austin is like an assassin, that can actually go open water, quickly bursting down priority targets than dissapearing again, they are very different ships, atleast I play them very differently.
7:24 I've been saying this from day one that sometime the game just want you dead and it'll give the Ship Godly dispersion that you have never seen before just to kill you because the game wants you dead

Yuro, if you're bored, I challenge you to figure out how to reliably score in the top 5 in co-op on a tier V-IX battleship... the removal of friendly fire and the continued deterioration of bot AI has made it difficult for battleships to contribute unless your teammates make some really terrible mistakes. But I bet you can figure out how to play and to train a captain to make it work. After all, you showed us what a great seal-clubbing ship the Krasny Krym is!

Looks like a tough ship to play. Can easily kill DD's and cruisers and maybe HE spam BB's (or catch them by torps), but it's made of citadels and what do you angle against? I would have to check it's armor distribution. Because it's so thin, I assume broadsiding against BB's is not a big problem, unless they have short fuse like Conq.
I think Austin needs to angle against a some dds and cruisers.
Had a hilarious example of it in my Tashkent recently when I a had a brown trousers moment as an Austin appeared round an island, began it's SAP spam but by shear luck we were so close (a few km) and I was so angled (almost completely away) the SAP was bouncing off my side - flat broadside Austin could not survive glorious soviet AP at such short range.
I still died to rest of the Austins team but it was worth it.

"Have you considered uh, angling" Thats the thing, Sap can't be angled against (32mm pen with almost ZERO bounce angle). Its the most OP shell type in the game. And now that i think about it, that new US DD is also getting Austin's turrets i think.

It's not outdated but Austin doesn't play like almost any other ship in the game as it relies so heavily on its insane burst dmg.
