    Happy 20th anniversary to Dino Thunder, one of the best Power Rangera seasons of all time and my favorite of all time. Now that I got the Lightning Collection team complete, I shall get the Zords next, even the US Blizzard Force Megazord to be a player 2 Replicantzord. Weirdly, they made some Blizzard Force Megazord-themed toys that were accurate to the show but only the Megazord wasn't.
    Also Cephalazord should have been included with Mezodon or a proper Blizzard Force Megazord that didn't have a green Pterazord. Also I remember seeing plenty of Dino Thunder Yellow Ranger bikes along with the others at my KB Toys.

    That Purple Theory does seem plausible for Bandai at the time. Funny that nearly a decade later we had them try to make that purple Tricera Zord for Dino Charge assumedly for the same reason.

    • @MMPRtoys
      @MMPRtoys  6 месяцев назад +3

      They tried to say that was an error, but I'm not sure I believe them. I think the didn't want a Megazord with a bright pink arm but then with social media, fans said "WTF?!" and they changed it back. In that case, I guess purple was the lesser evil.

    The color theory seems plausible. For certain franchises, particular colors just don't sell as well for some reason. I remember with Bionicle back in the day, the Toa of Stone were colored yellow and orange, and even skipped entirely in some waves because the initial brown color didn't sell as well as the other ones despite being beloved characters in that line.

  • @dangreen6901
    @dangreen6901 6 месяцев назад +2

    I think another reason why the cephalazord wasn't released in North America was due to the action feature. That was around the time toy companies were being sued for inappropriate toys

    • @MMPRtoys
      @MMPRtoys  6 месяцев назад +1

    • @MMPRtoys
      @MMPRtoys  6 месяцев назад +6

      I don't know about that. Hasbro would have to make that entire line then, and they don't make the toys anymore. It's great they we had Legacy then Lightning Collection, but really the time to buy the toys is during their season. Even back in 2004 I was buying everything from Japan. Back then we still had eBay, BBTS, ToysNJoys... there were options. Bandai America & Japan shared molds so you could buy the one thing you were missing and it'd work just fine. Back then shipping also wasn't so insane.

    • @MMPRtoys
      @MMPRtoys  6 месяцев назад +4

      I gave you that edit just to make sure no "you forgot" originally I didn't film anything about Wild Force, but there were purple Zords in Wild Force. The purple bison is on this channel, it was included with Ultimus Megazord and that came with the Soul Bird. I was working on Power Rangers at the time and doing what I could to get the elephant Zord included in that set, but sadly it wasn't meant to be. Bison falls under the same previous examples as "part of a set" and perhaps Bandai found out during Wild Force that purple was a problem color. I really don't know. Season 1 had dolls for the girls. That clearly did not continue. What we got varied by years and they do market research as well as learn from previous seasons. Again I'm guessing, but purple was undoubtedly an unlucky color for the Dino Thunder DX line.

      True, we did get a Koragg figure, but no Zord for him. In that case though, I think it falls under "fans don't like bad guys." Back then I thought it was so crazy Bandai didn't make more bad guys, and they heard all about that from me when we started meeting with them after we launched this channel, but, I think they were right. 😕Back then I thought I spoke for more people, which was "we want girls, we want bad guys." Nope! Bruno wants girls and bad guys. Even now LC & Super7 bad guys continue to shelf-warm even on clearance (and Madame Woe got cancelled entirely). And in Japan they rarely make figures of the monsters, which I used to think was so weird, but maybe it's the same there too.

    Yep, that mystery is solved. Power Ranger is a brand boys and girls can enjoy, but Bandai was targeting the boys with those action figures.
    I'm not sure what I would get out of the toy isle in 2004. I was deep into video games at the time. I ordered the SOTA Street Fighter action figures online.

      Which of the Dino Thunder Zords would you say were safer? I'm seeing a lot of pointy drills and spikey things. The one they omitted I would say was by far the least dangerous. I'm going to rule that out. Dino Charge came out in 2015. By then we were getting purple, girls, monsters, and all that good stuff... which fans were not buying, so we got less of it the next year and Bandai pulled all females from 2018 line as they transferred to Hasbro b/c they didn't want a bunch of things sitting on shelves.

      @MMPRtoys  6 месяцев назад +2

      That was actually a blue color, not purple, but I said in this video, we had purple in Wild Force and Jungle Fury too. It varies by year. Again that was in a Megazord set, not sold individually, which I'm saying may have made it easier for Wild Force. I'm also pointing to the fact that yellow was scarce, and they took all of the purple out of the Blizzard Force. So, at least in that year, Bandai had decided to really aim the line at boys. Bandai struggled to sell girls all the way up to the very end in 2018, then Hasbro learned the same.

I think they didn't want to risk a Megazord with a bright pink arm, but listened to the fan response and put it back to pink. I get it now. Back then I was probably more "what does Bandai have against girls??" but now I see how things do/don't sell, and running our channel, we have to constantly deal with what fans will/won't click on, and we know monsters/girls/ultrazords is a guaranteed failed video. I had a few years gap between buying PR figures back in the day so I missed out on the Dino Thunder toyline. I did however start buying again during SPD and also noticed the girls were ridiculously hard to find. I guess that was the point where Bandai made that decision to only do 1 or 2 runs of the female rangers and usually they were in the very first assortments, so if you missed them you were out of luck until the end of year team packs. Never did get a proper SPD Yellow or Pink so I settled for the SWAT Mode versions.

  • @anthonyboodram608
    @anthonyboodram608 6 месяцев назад +1

    What’s funny is that they made a 5 inch version of the Blizzard Force that was actually show accurately colored. It’s strange that they didn’t include the Cephalozord in that zord set since that would have been an easy way to just sorta toss it out like with Armadillo and Hammerhead in Wild Force. I doubt that would have put off boys from buying Zord set considering that it was pretty prominent in the show like the other two, and kids would definitely notice that they’re missing an arm from the Triceramax. I know when I was younger, I always wanted to have what was in the show. On the note of the large Brachio, I wonder if that prototype still exists out there and if someone could find it? Or maybe someone could try to recreate it. I remember seeing an old video years ago of one that someone built out of wood. Also, Dino Thunder and SPD were my first Power Ranger shows!

    • @MMPRtoys
      @MMPRtoys  6 месяцев назад +1

      I do remember the wood Brachio. Today someone could absolutely 3D print that. It'd be a big job... but it could be done. They included Dimetro with Dino Stegozord. If I were at Bandai then, I would have said put Cephalazord with Dino Stegazord, put Dimetro with Blizzard Force. They'd probably need to lose the green Ptera (would anyone even miss it?) but then that probably still makes the box larger as well as the cost going up, and that gets into other issues. Sometimes it's not even up to Bandai. During Dino Charge they wanted to make a bigger Titano, but Walmart said they liked the size and price point of the others, make it fit. So, I really don't know what was possible then. They did make that TRU exclusive auxiliary pack... what if there had been a set that was one ranger/cycle and one Zord? And then of course in the final days of Bandai in 2018, they pulled all girls from final releases. Even that ranger key set replaced yellow/pink with green/white. People really were not buying girls.

      @@MMPRtoysYeah, I think they probably should have included Cephala with the Dino Stegazord and Dimetro with Blizzard Force, the colors match a lot more that way. Not sure what they were thinking with the green Ptera, especially since that Megazord can’t even wear the helmet like Thundersaurus! That idea of one ranger/cycle and one zord is a good one, too. And maaaaan I remember the shelf warming female figures towards the end of Bandai’s ownership, it especially seemed to hit the Legacy line hard, at least in my area.

    I love time traveling back to 2004 and not just to feel like a kid again. It also still shocks me that 2004 is now 20 years ago, and yet it still feels like only yesterday. It is still baffling that Bandai America never released the Cephalazord cause imagine if you were a kid and got the Mesodon Megazord, he’d be imitating Woody in Toy Story 2 because he had no right arm! And on top of that, most kids and parents were more than likely unaware of where Power Rangers comes from so the thought of importing that zord never crosses their mind.

      They put Dimetro with DinoStegazord. Orange/green were in a TRU exclusive set. I have a hard time believing they couldn't have figured something out. I can come up with quite a few ideas. And this during Disney. Disney Store used to have exclusives too. Either someone really messed up that year, or it had to do with the color. (Not to say someone couldn't have messed up, but lack of yellow and recolor of Blizzard are suspicious, they figured out how to release the other three...)

      @@anthrorangerxcosplaydigita8007 I'm sure they'd have had to lose the green Ptera, which I think is fine, but that would still make it cost more, pushing it over the price point they were trying to meet. I didn't know that was a thing until our later meetings with Bandai. So, that might not have been doable. I still say they could have figured out some exclusive set though.

    I am a bit picky when it comes to action features because I love seeing fun transformations and combinations. Motorized zords tended to be bricks which had limited potential for transforming and combining. The Stego Zord found a way around it.

    I confess, the Blizzard Force Megazord is a bit of an old shame for me. I reviewed in early on in my RUclips career, but I was overly negative about it, especially the color change. In hindsight, I was ashamed about how negative was, because I try to look for some good in every toy I review. Needless to say, the review is no longer on my channel

      The colors grew on me. I get it, as a fan, you know what it's supposed to look like. The thing you saw first becomes the way it should be, then there's this other thing that looks totally different, which becomes "looks wrong" and yeah, it's not screen accurate which many fans do care about. But at the time Bandai was selling more to kids vs adult fan collectors, and pastel purple probably would have cost them some sales.

Hated how the US toys used the same exact mold but was missing details that you could clearly see on the box, which used the Japanese toys.

    • @MMPRtoys
      @MMPRtoys  6 месяцев назад +1

      That was really a carrier Zord. It housed seven Zords. It was used in a few attacks, but mostly there to keep the Zords safe and transport them. That's just what they did that season, Tor and Titanus were different, and Bragigas became a Megazord and Ultrazord too. Brachio is really too big to combine with the other Zords in the show universe. The toy can shoot missiles and the neck can become an arm on the Megazords.

    • @MMPRtoys
      @MMPRtoys  6 месяцев назад +4

      I posted a video in 2018ish about my thoughts on how Hasbro would do, I'd say I nailed it. Marvel Legends-like line of Power Rangers, which we got. Some of the best figures ever made. I showed people the paint/stickers on Transformers at Toys R Us, and explained based on that, you'll either be unhappy with the Zords, or they'll be very expensive, or both. I think they did a good job on Dino Fury, overall, but the Zords were overall cheap, but expensive. Helmets were good, amazing we got Zedd, morphers and weapons were good.
      Unfortunately after they bought the license, Toys R Us closed, we had covid and their CEO passed away, who was the one that was into Power Rangers, but, either way I would say Hasbro did not do much that I could see to bring in new people. The claim was "unlock the brand's full potential."
      Overall I'd say things went as I expected. Not as good as what they said they had planned, but not as bad as what fans would have you believe. If you collect MMPR then you've got a pretty incredible and complete collection of figures. A good number of other teams also got completed which included figures we never had before in any line.
      Saban 10 years
      Disney 7 years
      Neo Saban 8 years
      Hasbro 5 years...? Beast Morphers was like a transition from Saban to Hasbro. Dino Fury was the first official season, then Cosmic Fury was more of a mini series. However we want to count that. & the Once & Always special. Long way of saying they didn't last very long.

I think when the features are manually triggered, it’s more engaging too. On the topic of Dino Thunder, I always thought it was a missed opportunity that they didn’t make the blaster/sword thing be tied to the sword of darkness from MMPR, as it has a similar curved shape.
