I'm impressed. If I hadn't felt similar type sensations before, I would think that this video was a hoax. You've more clearly defined these things for me and confirmed for me that I wasn't hallucinating (I strongly felt I wasn't). I thank you greatly for that Shifu. You must be really sensitive to flows of energy, and very experienced. I don't doubt that you're Shifu was quite powerful. Like I've said before, I'm glad you're a good guy, because if not, we're in trouble.😁👍🏾
Yes it would be easy for some people to just dismiss this because it is such an esoteric topic. And that is why I'm glad to see that people are developing the perceptiveness, open mindedness, and understanding beneath all of that, to begin to understand some of the really valuable ideas inside of Tai Chi. Cheers! 😃🙌
There is something else that I see happening here. Sifu Lin often draws his student forward before contact. The student's centeredness is off balance _before_ contact. The student reacts in anticipation of Sifu. This is easily seen at 1:09, but elsewhere as well. The student moves forward to meet the oncoming force which is his undoing. An analogy might be defenders leaving their otherwise impregnable fortifications to battle a stronger attacker and getting destroyed just outside their walls. This may be another level of internal T'ai Chi Ch'uan.
@@back-seat-driver1355 Very good thing to notice! Notice too his capacity to respond to different directions as the awareness and Zhongding shifts. Thank you for your comment! 😃🙏
Great video Chester..! I'm happy to report similar (re)discoveries are being made in the aikido community in Japan, although still in its early stages of revelation and experiment. The idea of 'draping' is almost identical in concept. They talk about moving one's 'etheric body' (or 'soul') ahead of the physical body and passing it through and past the opponent's etheric body. A second level, slightly stronger, is to do that but also snatch or move the opponent's etheric body to where you want it to go. That is to say, combine one's own etheric body with his, fuse them together, and, for example, throw the, both together onto the ground (to the left or right or center) ahead of time. The idea is for our physical body to catch up with what the etheric body (or bodies) has already done. The other person collapses sometime before we even touch. Another method still, is to combine the above, with 'loving intent'. With this version, the opponent smiles as he falls. These are quite strange phenomena, but which I would explain using the neuroscience of empathy. David Hawkins is also a good reference. ;)
That is very cool to hear about similar ideas explored in Aikido! I rather like the Japanese approach to the martial arts, in their pursuit of the essence behind what is happening and to create a minimal system, that is well used, to deal with a variety of situations. In regards to those specific methods, yes, to align our spirit and body in their intention and movement, to influence the spirit of the opponent and letting that influence their movement downstream, and to connect together with loving intent that transforms their intention and experience. Lovely stuff! Thank you for sharing! 😃🙏
Thanks Sifu this was quite esoteric but glad you covered this as its not realy demonstrated with as much clarity as you have shown , when others' attempt to. It feels to me that in order to make use of the incorporeal chi outside you have to be able to put your awareness outside of the body. Is this like 6-direction force? Some internal martial arts say you always have to be in a state of 6-direction force at all times but in taichi chi do we only make use of that direction of force that we feel is taking us of our zongding in a specific direction at the moment it occurs?
You are completely right that to make use of the Lingqi outside the body you start by extending your awareness outside of your body. 6-Direction Force sounds like a way of describing that type of expansion, and could be helpful for you to achieve that expansion. I would say that more so than "direction" it's more like a circle or a sphere of awareness that is not necessarily "directional" in intention but "encompassing". Does that make sense? 😃🙏
@@phoenixmountaintaichi Yes Sifu that does make sense and actually it confirms one thing I've heard which is that ever part of the body acts like a dantien which confirms spherical manifestation of awareness being encompasing. Its really exciting stuff I just wish I had a strong body to be able to get back into practicing this art again, but your videos are driving my motivations upwards.
@@robertjordon1984that’s wonderful! One tip I would like to give you is that your practice doesn’t have to be perfect. If you feel motivated and you do just a little something a little Tai Chi-esque, you are doing something that is good for yourself. So do a little and enjoy any improvement and joy that brings for yourself, because success and happiness is not black and white, and to the extent that you want to, and that you can do something, that means you can benefit in your own way. So as I say in all my course videos, enjoy your practice! 😃🙌
relating to the previous video about pulling the earth and heaven energy, in this one you drop the awareness down below the feet as root, but what if your awareness is pulled up beyond the crown, ie the reverse of rooting? will you still be hard to push, or the reverse? is there some other effect or benefit of it?
The upward alignment to Heaven improves your control of Qi. It has some impact on stability of your Zhongding, while sinking your root deeper towards Earth has a more profound impact on the stability of your Zhongding. Does that make sense? 😃🙏

Yes that is a really good observation! And it is indeed a factor in losing position as well as Zhongding. Good eyes. 👁️👁️😃
I have seen this demonstrated at Wudang and Chen village. Simple, elegant, and devastating.🙏🎸☯️🕉️

nice observation, but watch the direction of the force also….
