So I absolutely love the actor that plays the cousin. He emotes so much with his eyes - soulful. Makes me really feel for the character. That being said, I also recognize his selfishness. He knows Xiao Yao has insecurities from feeling abandoned as a child, especially with those nasty maids openly discussing the idea that her father deliberately “lost” her. He knows she wants to be prioritized and have someone’s total love, not the piecemeal affections that broke her grandmother’s heart. He also knows that he cannot give her that love. He’s going to have a harem of women through political marriages and cannot ignore them lest he endangers his alliances as each family is hoping their daughter will be the one who provides him with an heir…yet he doesn’t want Xiao Yao to be away from him and find her own happiness too. He wants her to be his alone, even as he uses her and even as he knows she would never agree to be one of a dozen others to share his affections.

Gurl the second season is hell of a rollercoaster he is going to go insane for her and going to do some very serious f ed up things, i already finished the novel, i feel bad for him too but he can't have everything selfishly he chose power over love and therefore he lost her forever ...
