Hi Allie and Sam, im a Student midwife and the reason the use of home dopplers is discouraged is as you said in case someone who isn't trained uses it and can't find the heartbeat and gets panicked. Also because if someone is worried about the baby and uses one they can sometimes pick up Mums heartbeat instead and provide reassurance even if something isn't quite right and even if it does get the baby's heartbeat, if you're worried or concerned about movements you should always contact someone as sometimes people don't after they've used a home doppler and found a heartbeat and are reassured but there might be something else going on! Hope that helps! xx

Congratulations girls!!!! ❤️ this journey is so exciting for you!! Just FYI healthcare professionals don’t recommend using an at home Doppler just because you may not know what you’re hearing/be able to identify if something is wrong/give yourself unnecessary stress if you struggle to find a heartbeat. At 15 weeks we struggle to find accurate heartbeats in hospital with just a Doppler. Not meaning to be a negative Nelly at all but just be careful using/promoting a Doppler!! xxx

They are using it just fine! At home doppler is not meant to diagnose anything anyway, its just a cute way to connect with the baby before feeling them.

Back when I was in the midst of figuring out my sexuality and after realizing that I like girls, I did not believe that there could ever be a life, a future out there for me.
Luckily I discovered your channel here.
Thanks to you guys and your visibility online I was able to accept myself for liking girls and I finally didn't feel afraid of the life ahead of me anymore.
Much love and thank you Allie and Sam for the hard work that goes into your channel, the informative videos and for showing thousands of people - including me - that there is in fact a life out there waiting for them. 💓💓💓💓

I’m so excited for you guys🥰 I’m a NICU nurse and that Doppler is tricky haha. Sometimes it picks up on mommas heartbeat, so if it’s a number under 100 and it’s slower it’s mama. If it’s super fast (like over 130) then it’s baby! Keep playing around with it though, it’s so fun and as they get bigger it’ll be a lot easier. I’m queer and I’ve loved following your fertility journey because it gives me an idea of what to expect and makes it less overwhelming. ❤️

Another reason in addition to what @thewowchronicles said about home dopplers is sometimes (key word sometimes) people will feel that something is wrong, but since they can find a heartbeat, they assume they don't have to go in and get a stress test or an ultrasound. And no one should ever assume that if a baby has a heartbeat that automatically means they're okay/not in distress. But as long as people using them are aware of that and aren't using them to try and self diagnose an issue, there shouldn't be an issue with having one. I recommended to a friend that she get one since she had a lot of anxiety, and she said it helped her a lot (she also had weekly doctor's appointments so she knew her baby was okay from those too).

when using the dopler, if the heartbeat sounds muffled then that's actually the placenta's heartbeat like the flow through the placenta. Baby's heartbeat will be clearer. The first reading you did on video sounded more like a placenta flow rather than a baby's heartbeat. Ask your OB to explain this if you don't understand what I'm saying but when I studied to become a midwife here in the UK (I don't study this anymore) but they explained the difference. I hope this helps.

About C sections just because I know allie you love your abs and exercises: after C sections its way harder to get your abs back. Not impossible but way harder. If not absolutely needed, its better not to chose the elective c section.
Also with two twins you will feel very sick from the surgery and its already very tiring alone, even more with a surgical cut that needs to heal. Just some thoughts to consider!
For me the ability to get back into exercise and the ability to be moving around freely after birth are very important!
Also as info if needed: I was against epidural as well before because of side effects until my friend who is an anesthesiologist told me she will get one herself. So that actually kinda convinced me. But be sure to ask how many the anesthesiologist did before she told me!
    Thats all! Lots of love!!

One thing doctors don’t tell you is the risk for adenomyosis in later life after C-sections. Make sure you ask about this because I didn’t find out until I was diagnosed with adenomyosis - healthy babies are best of course but I wish someone had told me. Love you guys!

They say don’t use the Doppler because some don’t understand how to find the heart beat and sometimes baby moves or shifts into a position where you can’t find it and it will freak moms out causing them to rush to the dr so to avoid all of that they say just don’t use it save yourself the inevitable freak out 😆

Absolutely not shaming here just think it is really important for both you Sam and Allie and anyone watching this videos to know. I am a cardiac sonographer and this use of at home fetal doppler machines is unsafe and not recommended whatsoever.
Here is just some information put of by the American Institute for ultrasound in Medicine to be aware of
    - The AIUM advocates the responsible use of ultrasound and strongly discourages the non-medical use of US for entertainment purposes
    - The use of ultrasound without a medical indication to view the fetus, obtain images of the fetus, listen to the heartbeat or determine the fetal gender is inappropriate and contrary to responsible medical practice
To super briefly example what doppler ultrasound is is it basically uses directed sound beams at the fetal heart to detect motion. Doppler unlike general ultrasound, like when you go to your doctor for a scan ,is significantly more danger for the fetus. The use of doppler can cause a temperature increase of 4 degrees Celsius or more for longer than 5 mins = potential to cause severe developmental defects. Highly recommend to STOP using this device, the risk on your baby will continue to increase, especially the risk of congenital heart disease and other life threatening birth defects. Trust me as a health care professional, it is not worth it. If you want to hear the heartbeat, I highly recommend buying a cheap stethoscope and putting it directly on your belly to listen to the heartbeat. This method is completely safe.

    • @noraMD
      @noraMD 2 года назад

You are right. All the use of sonography its to be restricted in pregnancy and neonatal age. An at home doppler will probably never reach TIS levels so high to pose a danger. Its more a matter with big probes and especially endo probes.
A TIS till 0,7 is perfectly fine, and even till 1,5 the time is up to 30min. I don’t think there is people using it so long.
Its important to be informed about it though, especially for endo sono in the first 8 weeks.
