    That is a lot of railroad in one room, but looks like it is well designed. I enjoyed seeing it. 👍🏼

    As always you have put a lot into a small room, I can't imagine how long it would take me to build such an extensive layout but must admit I dream about doing one. Thanks for sharing your great ideas with us . . 👍👍👍👍👍😃

    Love the ideas. If my pockets where as deep I could afford such nice things. I am about 6-7k in and still have white foam after 15 months. The whole process becomes overwhelming at points.

      It sounds like you've done the expensive part. The scenery van be done relatively cheaply.

    Elaborate layout. Looks like it includes everything the client wanted. Good job. How high is the sky staging and how do you plan to control and see the turnouts and occupied tracks? Thank you.

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  3 года назад

      The sky-staging level is set at 88" (the train room has a 9' ceiling) so that it doesn't cramp the mountains on the third deck. Closed-circuit cameras, such as those sold for home security, are perfect for keeping tabs on areas of the layout nor easily seen by other means.

    Another beautiful layout Peter this one's going to be huge, the multi-layer aspect is gigantic. Be a good idea to have a TV monitor on a wall with cameras everywhere. Is he going to see full operation of the helix from the operating area?
    excuse any spelling or punctuation errors, this speak into phone feature is a joke.I drive for a living.

  • @malcolmone1

    you can always under measure ,and then can infill those few inches if need be, if you are over sized when coming to fit something, you are then pondering where to cut as every matches ie scenery etc

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  3 года назад

      "under-measuring" is basically what we did.

  • @ThePTBRULES
    @ThePTBRULES 3 года назад +1

    Seems to me like a workbench area 8n the garage next to the Helix would be idea for a huge workbench that can include a spur to it.

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  3 года назад

      The workbench we are referring to is an area to maintain cars and locomotives - not something you really want to do in a dusty garage if there is space for it in the train room.

    That is an amazing design! If I hit the lottery I might have it built. (Too old to get it done alone!) Could you please give the dimensions? I must have missed them in the video.

    Hi Peter, thanks for sharing.
    Do you design British outline layouts?
    What would you recommend the largest incline of a helix to be?

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  3 года назад

      Yes I can do British layouts. I have already published one and there is another in the pipeline. So far, about half my life has been spent modeling British railways, so I am equally versed on that prototype. If you are in the market for such a design, please contact me through my web-site: superiormodelrailroads.com

  • @evileyeball

    Have you ever seen a layout done well that didn't include any industries and was just Long open running for trains to run through scenic sections I'm just curiousas I have been contemplating future layouts (don't have time/money/space at present but can make all three over time)

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  3 года назад

      @@mpeterll I just had an Idea the other day that would solve my space issue by having the trains run along a long narrow shelf around my office. as I think I could pull it off low enough to the ground that you aren't looking up at trains. The only issues it would present would be crossing the door, crossing the window, (but I could senic that window crossing as a long bridge) and having any sort of facility for reversing trains
      The door and window are easier obstacles than the reversing of trains

  • @markarnold8160
    @markarnold8160 3 года назад

    A sky staging level huh? Would that require sensors so that you know which road is occupied?

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  3 года назад +1

      Some kind of monitoring system would be necessary. Closed-circuit TV cameras such as those sold for home security would be a good bet.

  • @markweiss7538
    @markweiss7538 3 года назад +1

    Hmmm, so you can't run 2 trains at the same time in the opposite direction?

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  3 года назад +1

      Whatever gave you that idea? On the lower scenic deck, there is a double track main - one track for each direction. On the upper level, there is a single track main with passing sidings. Here, the higher priority train would have the rights to the main line and the other would hop from siding to siding - exactly as would be done on the prototype.

    I have a 11 by 72 in switching layout . Do you have any suggestions?

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  3 года назад

      In N-scale, that gives you plenty of space for a few decent-sized industries, possibly modelled as an isolated area connected to the main line via a car-float.
      In HO-scale, you are pretty much limited to just a couple of small industries and a handful of cars. If all the spurs face the same way, that will avoid the need for a space-eating run-round track. I'd be tempted to frame the layout between a pair of road over-passes and represent a single city block. This module could easily be incorporated into a larger layout at a later date.
