In Texas, sting rays go near to shore. In fact , they go around 6' from the shore. When swimming, people are advised to slide their feet along the bottom of the water. I did that. I have touched many sting rays. They would swim away. If someone steps on them, the sting rays would sting them. I steeped on some; but, lifted my foot before I applied too much pressure. The sting ray swam away. In the Gulf of Mexico, I felt fish gnawing on my toes, stepped on Conch shells, and even felt sharks skimming my legs..
