30 million white-tailed deer live in the United States. They have begun to adapt themselves to living in a world of traffic, pets and backyards. In Cayuga Heights, New York, the suburb’s residents are trying to get used to this exceptional living arrangement. The deer can be spotted daily from kitchen windows and porches. Life in the suburbs is deer heaven - large areas of grass, no predators and plenty of water means their population is on a steady rise. In this documentary, white-tailed deer are outfitted with special cameras to take the viewer into their world. 'Deercam' allows us to see them in a new light - not frozen in the headlights of a car or as shy residents of the woods, but as intelligent and affectionate family animals.

Lmao i lived on n this area in my childhood. Deer are amazing. We used to watch them and reflect on how the deer population directly represents the health of our local plant life. THEY ARE NOT PESTS. We are intruding on their homes.

I'm 59 yrs old and have lived in the midwest my entire life(close to where you hear about folks hitting deer often) and I'm embarrassed to admit that I've learned several pretty pertinent things about these animals today that I never knew!🤯 Good thing I'm still teachable! I see deer all the time on my bike rides off road on bike trails. They reallt do freeze like thst and stare. A few times i got creeped out and thought they'd certainly be chasing me 😅
The oddest place i ever saw them was by the train tracks...running across the road in the night. A group of them

And a centry ago, how many large predators where still in the wild ?? That couldn't have anything to do with the population growth. And its the large predators that keep the grazers moving so they dont completely change the vegetation in the habitats by over eating the vegetation

Slight inaccuracy, Cattle, Goats, Sheep, Antelope, etc., are Ruminants, but they are a completely different Ruminant group from say Deer, or perhaps the group that includes Pronghorn and Giraffids. Like Pronghorn and Giraffids, Deer are NOT Bovids, they are Cervids, which is a different group altogether and to my knowledge are closer to the family group that includes Pronghorn on one hand, and on the other Giraffids (Giraffes, Okapis, the extinct Sivatherium, etc.), despite being Ruminants they’re actually only VERY DISTANTLY RELATED to Bovids

We had an albino buck in our local cemetery until some idiot killed him with an arrow which is completely illegal in city limits. The dumbass could have killed someone in the neighborhood minding their own business walking down the street. That buck should have been left alone in a public cemetery. I'm glad that he was caught and charged.
Fencing you have to go real high or do 2 fences like 4 to 6 feet apart works good also

Also, in Rochester NY there are herds of deer that hang out in the cemeteries during hunting season. You could be burying your loved one overlooked by a small herd of deer just 30 yards away.
