- Needless to say, I'm a big fan of comic books but not just the art and stories in comics but everything about the medium including the ads. One of the things that influenced the work that I do was those vintage novelty advertisements found in the pages of comic books.

This is fantastic and so much fun! I grew up with some of these ads as well and love this. What a great collection of references. Love the 50’s futuristic spacey stuff, one of my favorite styles.
Mine too, I use a lot of that inspiration in my work.
These ads were great to see always. Comics today are missing out on this
Tell me about it Ronnie, I love this stuff!
This is so great Scott! I have a bunch of folders and pdf's Ive put together of comic book ads and I agree they are so inspiring. I think the nostalgia of looking at these while reading comics in my room as a kid is so powerful. I do tons of monster art based on these ads, I need to post some. So cool you did this!
Thanks! I would love to see those David!
Those ads are printed un our memories. I was wondering about them not so long ago. The art done un pure drawings has a lot of power and certain misticism about it that gets stuck un the mind. Nice vídeo.
Thanks! It was fun flipping through these.
Cool to see what you're inspired by. The thing I liked most about those ad pages was how busy they were.
I'm influenced by the format of comics, hieroglyphic visuals and the presentation of graffiti, often rushed, often ugly.
Yeah I would but them in the category of newspaper car dealership ads, not very well designed but with the novelties there is a certain allure to them.
Very cool! I love looking back at these old ads as well. I throw a lot of Retro-Sci Fi elements into my own comic, the Davy Rocket Almanac. I also loved the old Hostess superhero ads that used to be in comics.
Those Hostess ads were great with Twinkie The Kid, King Ding Dong, Captain Cupcake and Fruit Pie the Magician I wish they would bring them bake, well at least Count Chocula, Frankenberry and Boo Berry return year after year.
Serkworks Art Labs I remember ones where Spidey would toss some would be thieves some Hostess snacks. They’d be so preoccupied with their deliciousness they don’t even notice the cops arresting them. Haha.
Very cool! Trip down memory lane.
Glad you enjoyed it. It was fun doing it.
Awesome video, Scott! That Ad Boy book has been on my wishlist for a while, I'm gonna have to pick it up! I have a similar one called Meet Mr. Product that's also really good. I'm planning on doing some ads for fake video games and stuff in the comic I'm working on. It'll be a lot of fun. Thanks for the inspiration!
That would be fun to see. I'm going to have to look for Mr. Product.
This is the best content. And quality content i seen on youtube.
Wow! Thank you. That's quite a compliment.
@@ScottSerkland i wish you get everything you want and desire.
Current comic I’m working on is a post apocalyptic kind of retro wasteland I plan on including in the back of each issue a in world add for products the characters use
That sounds awesome!
would like to see a series of character design from you
If you dig thought the channel you will find some character design videos including a series where I redrew a lot of the superheroes I created as a kid. I hope to get back to doing more soon.
@@ScottSerkland cool. Cause people are all about on youtube looking for character design.i think those video do great. And i always feel the amount of work you put in you deserve more attention and audience.also your mech designs are cool you can do series on that.and would love to see it on your channel.
To this day I am still a BIG supporter of Sea Monkeys regardless of the creators dark past
Yeah I remember hearing some crazy stuff about the creator, sometimes you have to separate the creator from there work. H.P. Lovecraft is a good example of that.
Mystery comic book ads crystals
Gotta love those old ads!
Next time take a Valium before filming. You're way too agitated and fidgety. Watching you gave me anxiety.
Sorry, you weren't happy with my delivery. Let me get you your money back, oh, wait.
