No sampling. No auto tune. Just talented individuals, making real music. So many good bands from back then playing insanely good music and they could sing.

Others are Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers, Eddie Kendricks (Keep On Truckin) of Temptations, Jackie Jackson of the Jackson 5 (I Want You Back), Ted Mills of Blue Magic (Side Show) & my fav, Russell Thompjins, Jr. of The Stylistics (Betcha By Golly Wow, Make Up to Break Up, You Make Me Feel Brand New, People Make the World Go Round). Singers who can really sound like instruments: Bobby McFerrin, & Al Jarraeu (R.I.P.). Black people & aspiring musicians who haven’t heard Earth Wind & Fire have been deprived of next level cultural awareness & quality music.

When I was in high school EWF was at the top of the R&B/Soul food chain!!! They broke major barriers in their heyday with their infectious grooves and the perfect mix of progressive and and at times eclectic musical directions yet at the same time managed to be easily accessible and mainstream friendly as well! Quite an accomplishment for for any band back in those days! Long about that same time I had taken up the guitar 🎸 and after a while of a lot of time and practice 😅I finally decided I might have gotten good enough to tackle their "Greatest Hits" album 😁 Overall I think I did a pretty good job of keeping up with em' but believe me I hit a few "sour notes" here and there 🤭They will always be one of my all time favorite bands!!!✌️❤️🎶🎸🎷🎙️

We can see why Mr. Collins liked not only Philip but the Phoenix Horns! Yes, very jazzy to sing with the sax in unison. Very cool.
In the 70s I remember hearing this album and especially this song in a little bar with a fantastic stereo system and I was transfixed. I bought the album and have never forgotten that moment I first heard it.
Philip Bailey is so amazing. Maurice White may he rest in peace. He's a legend. But take a minute to listen to Verdine White's bass playing. He's unbelievable.

There is a great documentary about EWF that has Philip Bailey explaining the lyrics to “reasons”and saying that people would come up to him and say that they used that song for the first dance at their wedding and he said they must not have paid attention to the lyrics 😄
That concert aired on HBO LIVE in the 80's and we had a huge party at the house and then sat down and watched in awe of this iconic and one of the greatest of all time R & B groups of their time. Thanks for reacting to it. You nailed it!

lol... i was a teen in the 70s... one night stands- or as David Bowie put them "wham bam thank you ma'am's -- were super common. the sexual liberation of the 60s was not yet tainted by the AIDS epidemic of the 80s and it was glorious... you were truly free to express yourself sexually with one person or a series of persons, it did not matter-- Love was Free.
