  • A Short film on finding good company based on the struggles of real people. Our story follows the struggles of Ahmad, a 3rd year university student, coming to grips with his loneliness as he searches for a good friend.
Written, filmed and edited in about 2 weeks for a McMaster MSA film festival, this short film took us a couple of months to finish up with the time that was spent after the contest, making significant fixes to the film; sound-editing for noise reduction, color grading for a better mood, re-arranging scenes, etc.
It took us awhile, but insha'Allah you like it!

Remember there was a Muslim brother around 2019 that asking your permission to make your videos (this one and 2 others) as his research object.
He was my friend who introduced me to the way of sunnah, we used to live and go to mosque together he was a good Muslim but qaddarullah he passed away last year and now when I see your videos I can't help but remember him, I feel deeply lost but the only thing that I could do for him is to ask Allah ﷻ to give him Jannah al-Firdaus al-A'ala,
Thank you... For giving him permission to use your videos

I can very much relate my situation to that guy in the video. I am also in my college 3rd year.I reverted to Islam last year and since then I started feeling alone as after accepting Islam I couldn't be with the people who use women centric abusive words very often :( The most unfortunate part is that almost all the Muslim guys of my college are non practising ones and often use abusive language and are same in behaviour as Non Muslims. No difference between the Non Muslims and Muslims of my college except by name!! I often feel depressed about my loneliness and that why Muslims aren't Practicing their religion when they get it as a gift from their birth onwards! This non practicing of Islam by today's generation of Muslims in many colleges is making me sad :(Thank you guys for making this video, I will make Allah SWT my best friend and hope to get good company in future. May Allah SWT guide us all :)

karthik vasudevan SubhanAllah, that's a very difficult situation and an unfortunate reality of the state that we are in. "Why Muslims aren't practicing their religion when they get it as a gift..." That's such a good point and a reminder for myself as someone gifted with Islam at birth. May Allah grant you the best company for this life and the hereafter, even when it seems like that may be impossible because of what you see around you, Allah can find you the best person with the best character and speech amongst all the people you see, at the time that it is best for you.

I feel exactly the same and my university experience has been similar. I socialise with everyone, get along with everyone and have a good heart, but finding a close friend has been difficult. I try my best to stay around good company for the sake of Allah and my hereafter. I’ve been in positions where i realised how bad company can change you. I don’t like the gossip, the bad talks etc. It’s really tough because you take Islam seriously, and therefore not many people relate to you, even Muslims sadly. However, I’m doing this for the sake of Allah and I’ve realised that it’s a test I’m being put through. InshaAllah, one day I’ll find a close friend who benefits me and is good company. It’s a struggle, when you’re left out because of it but I’m doing it for Allah’s and cannot compromise my deen.

Take heart! I am a 67 year old Muslimah who reverted to Islam at 42 years. I have found that to walk the path of a Muslim is to be lonely (for human companionship) at times. However, a Muslim should NEVER, EVER EVER despair of the Mercy of Allah (swt)!! Strive to make the Qur'an your companion. In all these 25 years of being Muslim, I have only found a few sisters (my age) who love to read Qur'an. We met in a Tajweed class and regularly saw one another for 3 years; then it ended when the teacher took a full time job. What i'm saying is, who cares about phony people who don't even bother to remember your name? Remember to say "inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raaji'un" in such instances and keep it movin'. Then, pick up the Qur'an and read its words & Allah (swt) (in His infinite Mercy) will dispel your heartache and sense of rejection and provide you with something better. Also, remember to ask Allah (swt) to not leave you for the "blink of an eye."

I used to feel alone even when i'm surrounded with people because I felt like all what they talked about are useless or not interesting to me. I'd rather not waste my time on that. With time, i started distancing myself and started thinking deeply of who I really am and focused on myself for awhile, although i'm alone, but i'm not lonely anymore because atleast I haven't lost myself nor did I lost Allah, he's always with me. And as a lot of you say that it would be nice to have a friend.. ofcourse it would, and I do seek for a good friend insha'Allah till the hereafter, but if that didn't happen, then there was a reason behind it.

    • @MuslimSkitBros

sara Really sorry you've had that struggle, one I think many of us can relate to as finding sincere people who find interest and joy in conversing about issues of life and beneficial topics can be difficult.
With that said, the Prophet (PBUH) reminded us to "be in this life like a stranger, or a wayfarer (someone who travels on foot) or a traveller"
This advice was given to Abdullah Ibn Umar (RA), and he followed it until the end of his days.
More specifically, the 'traveller' might interest you. The traveller is someone who keeps his burdens in life very light - he has no choice
because he has no set home, or furniture, or even a bookshelf or any material possession. This is someone who actually performs better and
contributes more positively when he is by himself. He lives life quietly and is more satisifed that way - that being said, his love for Allah (SWT)
and contributions to the community are no less than others.
May Allah (SWT) reward you for your sincerity, and introduce a friend in your life who has similar aspirations and allow you to contribute
to the community in the best way possible. Ameen!

Me and the other thing is, you might have a sincere friend who really cares about you, but they don’t really understand what being alone feels like but you know what, like you said it’s all for a reason. Maybe it’s done so Allah can make us stronger people because ultimately this makes us realise our goals and purpose.

I just found this video. This is me. It's like I've got my own Jihad. Constantly trying to distance myself from the only friends I have. Then I get lonely so after a few days I get back in touch. It's just a constant cycle. I cry because I have no Muslim friends. My father was Muslim but he passed Allah yerhamo. I speak little arabic so I struggle to read Qur'an. Not only this but my mother's side are strict orthodox so it's all in secret. I pray to Allah one day he'll explain why these events happened in my life. I'm so lonely I cry in despair. I hate hiding that I'm a muslimah.

This story describes perfectly my life right now, especially when he was talking to his parents telling them that he's fine and he's got friends. I study abroad and I am a second year university student. I don't know but somehow I can't make friends here although I am a sociable person. In class, outside class, I am always alone and all I do is just look at other students talking to each other and hanging out together. I find it difficult because you know at least you should have contact with one person so you can get informed about school programs and exams ectt,, but I have no contact and I am not even in their facebook groups. I often look at the university page on facebook to see what its going on, I see their activities and events. And most of the time they go party... It hurts but alhamdouliah sometimes I say to myself maybe being alone will make me closer to Allah

Don't feel like you're doing anything wrong, if you find good Muslims and you do your best to get to know each other and keep up but they don't seem intersted, you'll find sincere Muslims that do care. May Allah bless you with the best of company and reward your patience!

“A man is upon the religion of his best friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.” We all know this. But the reality is, for a lot of people finding good company is really hard. It can feel like a lonely battle, avoiding friends that might be nice and fun, but not the best influence, while looking for someone who isn't just a friend, but a companion for the hereafter.
With that said, our approach to this problem was being patient, asking Allah for help and finding companionship with the Quran. But what's some practical advise you guys have for someone in this situation?

Just because you are lonely and want a partner don't rush towards marriage even if you've been trying for years and not found anyone. You know what's worse than been lonely and single in campus and later life? It's been lonely as a divorced man after marrying in haste to someone not suitable and then she/he leaves you and you get seperated from your kids.

Man, added to the fact you have OCD, anxiety or anything, making good friends and enjoying life becomes a fairytale never come only to end in loneliness, the fact everyone ignored when he actually was talking was also something which angers and saddens me to the core added to that people making fun of me when speaking something really serious. Social life in university sucks, and I will smack the person who comes telling me it's not. Insha Allah, if I am proven wrong in this, wallahi I will take back every single word about this. May Allah SWT bless us all Muslims to understand and be compassionate to one another and lower our ego and pride. May He always protect us and keep us in good company that of which who try their best to recreate the feeling of being with the sahaba of Prophet Muhammed PBUH. Ameen summa ameen.

To be a practitioner of trust. I am a Noahide who truly identifies with the character in this film.
I am inspired by the Muslim people, especially when they walk o lonely path. There are those who are righteous that are hidden. The purpose is to spare the world of G-ds judgment so that others will have more time.

I feel bad for Muslims in the West. Especially the lonely ones. I guess it's better for them to get engaged at a young age like 18 before they start college or late high school so they can have a partner that joins their journey. Cuz it gets tough in our Western Culture! I actually respect the Muslims who get engaged later in their high school. They make very cute and cool couples.

A lonely muslim, i was born by parents who are from twi different cultures, my mom is german, and was brought up as a catholic, but when she married my father, my father wanted her to take on islam and when my siblings and i were born he wanted us to follow islam, i just did without hesitation. As i was always taught that evryone from every religion and culture and even those without a religion are still humans and gods creation. I took some interest in islam but with my father he has too many expectation he say we should study and follow islam butnat the same time he was out of the house i undersrand he has to work everyone has, but he never really bought us islamic books i always had to either burrow or someone with a good heart gifted me with islamic books, my fahter wasnt always a nicer husband to my mother either. He would always blame her if we didnt pronounce the arabic language in the quran properly

This video is so true. It makes me want to cry. So, where's the happy ending? Or any other continuation of his struggle? I would really love to see the continuation of this video. Hopefully not something that's fake. I really like this video, it's just soooo true.
I have a revert friend, which lives very far away. He also did what the guy in this video did: going to the mosque/ places of meeting, which takes a lot of courage to do if alone, but only to be ignored.. he tried his best to start conversing with others, but.. the rest, you know, like in this video. He really tried hard. Now, he didn't feel good to go to mosque anymore. He used to go to pray there, but then some people scolded him because he didn't wear proper attire.. people also promised to go out together with him, but only that once..
it's really hard for him, and, i dont know what to do. actually, he just want somebody to go to the dinner with.. but there's nobody..
people just invite him to this and this event, but there's nobody to talk with, even when he goes there. he did went to the mosque, remember? only to be ignored, or being told you should do this and that.. not getting to know more about him, and just continue to talk with their cliques, and he was left behind.
He did his best. But all of them are not working.. and he's still lonely. What to do? How can he solve this problem?

    • @MuslimSkitBros
      @MuslimSkitBros  6 лет назад

Second first of apologies for not replying back to you earlier, your comment hits a real sad reality and trend that we have been seeing, particularly with muslim reverts feeling isolated. May Allah bless you for trying to help him and reaching out for help and may Allah grant him the best of company!
Part of our delay in releasing a sequel has been just that, providing a realistic and sensible follow up solution on top of this vidoe's call to action to use one's struggle with loneliness to connect to Allah and befriend the Qur'an.
At this point in time the additional advice I can personally provide, and I will reach out to a convert friend to reply back and think of more suggestions, would be the following (based on what has helped me):
      1. Getting involved through volunteering and community work. One of team members for this channel has mentioned over again how crazy it is that we would not have gotten as close or spent as much time together had we not been working on making these videos as a community project. And personally, I am an introverted person that tends to prefer more deep conversations and working on projects with people for social time than watching a movie or playing basketball and so I have learned to use that to my advantage rather than focus on searching for those friends I can chill with and be around. Perhaps looking for a function in an msa, club or group that friend has interest and abilities in?
      2. Turn to family as friends. This might be more difficult depending on one's situation, but family can be a great source of friendship, I know my brothers are my closest friends whom I spend most of my time with. As well, the Prophet (PBUH) told us the person we should prioritize for friendship is our mother, if one is able to serve their mother and parents and become friends with them, this is a big reward and gate to Jannah as well as solution to loneliness iA.
      3. Recognize their are degrees of friendship and sincere friends that become lifetime companions are gems that are difficult to find. Attending social events to meet people can help even if it might feel those people are just event or get together friends you might have some enjoyment with at those times but don't stay much longer. Regardless, if a person keeps looking, pursuing their own interests and doing what they can, the rest is with Allah and Allah never disappoints us, even if we may not see the result of our struggle at times.
Finally, new muslim networks might be of help as shared struggles and experiences tend to bring people together. As well, you can let them know they can message us to skype or play some ps4 or steam any time iA :)
I apologize for the deficiency in this answer and hope it is of some help.
      -Ahmad

I have only met two such people in my life. One was a man who I met the day I was born and would be friends with him for the first 12 years of my life but decades apart he had to work and pay the bills. He could not show up all the time in my life but when he did it was worth it. The only reason why he was the greatest friend in my life was because I never learned friendship from anyone before him. He was the most sincere human being I've ever seen. He never told a lie nor did he say what he did not mean. He did not have any ulterior motive. However, Allah decreed that we would have to separate. He got married and had children and we did not see each other for several years and once we did we picked up where we left off. After him I fought many people including my parents and like him I used to care so much what people thought of me. I use to live a very lonely childhood and by the end of it I desired to become a killer but my friend helped me out. After he was gone I tried to fit in and tried to get people to like me to the point that I betrayed a friend of mine to make someone else happy. In the end they laughed at me and made fun of me and everything that I worked hard for meant nothing. After that day I decided to become so selfish to the point I put myself above everyone even my parents. Hurting anyone who got in the way of my ambitions to the point I would kill a child if it meant helping my ambition. I didn't care if I died or killed anyone else because I was determined to never go back to that ever again. I lived that way for years and did not want to have anyone as a friend because people are easily swayed and easily tempted. I have a lot to complain about but I did not complain because it would not help myself only working to your goals will help. Anything in the way I cut them out of my life without any remorse or regret even if it was my family. To show that I can succeed even if I am on my own. Anyone who praised me I said don't waste my time and anyone to criticized me I said bang your head on the wall. Then I went to the haram and met a woman who was the most generous human being I've ever met. She has her children who abandoned her and her mother who was crazy without any money. Threatened to be deported and was treated like a slave day and night. Her husband was gone all night and she was a slave by day poor as hell. Yet in spite of all that she gives everything she has for people she does not even know. People who treat her like garbage and she goes back to give them even more with a smile on her face. I did not treat her right due to my lack of faith in humanity. However, by the end of this trip I asked her why does she gives day and night despite what she experience. She asked that all she wanted was for me to be her friend and I told her that she has earned it. After I left and would pray for her because she's earned it and I do not say that about anyone. My point of this whole thing is this; if you wish to be my friend earn it or get lost. I am more important than you and if you die who would visit your funeral. No one but your family if you're lucky. Why give these people the time of day. Anything else you wish to learn is up to you.

🎉😂 He’s not lonely! They actually greeted him back and let him sit with them while they discussed things. They even invited him to their party 🎊. He tuned them out like a weirdo while sitting with them 📺 😂 & is also busy with school responsibilities! Try being black at the nonblack masjid & see if you get a basic warm reception like that. The excuse given will be it’s due to language or culture. I found that we must go & find or found our own community within.

I hope that someone addresses the following point.
When Muslims treat converts well, it's fine and good, and they'll have their rewards from Allah.
But there's a difference between treating someone well and doing charity to them, and, making them a good friend and making them like a member of their own family.
The failure to do that is a big problem, and it's one that I've not seen addressed.
Sometimes a convert has no family or close friends.
