He did not run, he was actively defending. By today's rules those are points. Rule of thumb back then was that the 3rd caution was not to be called unless the other wrestler had scored a technical point, which Brands did not. Nor, did Brands look like he was in any position to finish the takedown on at least two of those cautions. Another rule of thumb before calling a caution was that the attacking wrestler was actually finishing a takedown.
absolutely! Or the fact, that Canadians have no pull on a corporate basis to influence protests. I was at that tournament and Canada lost every protest whether initiated or against them. On the other hand, Iran, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine won every protest even against the U.S. in their own country.
@361Ocerg I saw Brands step out of bounds twice in this match and then circle in after the fact; why was he not called? Let the boys decide it on the mat.
@361Ocerg a little bit of both. But, US does gets better calls pitted against one another because neither kiss ass and the US has Corporate backing as the tie-break. The same happened this tournament on both level to Oleg Ladik of Canada, Loses to Kurt Angle in semis (1-1 tie, equal cautions), loses to Ukraine next match (1-1 draw, gets the duke, loses on protest, 9th place, but didn't actually lose a match). I honestly would have picked Angle as the winner, but Guivi won this match.
