- Taj Mahal, located at 1215 W Little Creek Rd., in Norfolk, VA used to be the place to see local bands play. Closed permanently in 2001, it has never reopened for business nor has the interior and all the remnants inside changed either for that matter. The place is exactly the way it was when it shut it's doors almost 15 years ago.
Footage shot by Paul Unger
Music by Iggy and the Stooges
Saw Bad Brains, Teen Idles and the Untouchables there in 1980.
see you at shakas in virginia beach!
This is epic. I played my first show here in late 2000/early 2001 and thats pretty much how it looked. Great video
What band were you in?
Dave Brockie, US Bombs, Roger Miret, DC bands, locals. Bartender we always called Telly. He looked like Telly Savalas from Kojak. Good times.
Boy, does this bring back memories. I remember hanging out here in 1980 when I was stationed on the USS L.Y. Spear (AS-36). I don't remember the club as having an actual stage back then. Distinctly remember seeing Citizen 23 ("Janie Has A Black Eye") among other bands. I was under the impression that years later the place relocated closer to Ward's Corner but evidently not.
I climbed them stairs and damn near broke my ankle coming down trying to leave the Taj mahal
Wow. Brings back so many great memories. Worked the door 2000/01 .. I miss Kelly, Christan, Alen, Kevin, and Isaac. Along with all the awesome bands that came through.
I was on this stage so many times as a member of Glitch in the System. Thanks for posting this. Big feelings.
Loved that place. It's still sitting there, unused.
I was a go- go dancer there in 96-98 . The big deal was to sit at the big table with mama son.
Awesome! ... Mama Son?
Do you remember a dancer named DE DE.
I remember heather!!, I brought in my fellow marines
i saw my first show there.. i was super young i remember kelly behind the bar.. and catching my first glimps at hardcore.. not knowing what it was.. or what it would later mean to me. still not cool
Wow. I worked there in 99/00 door, cool, bartender sometimes. Fucking great memories

@@AugustMedia Is this the same "The Noise" that played on the No Room to Dance album? They sound a lot different but I did record this from K94 when I was a kid.
@@MajorCulturalDivide You sir... are correct! Yes, this is the place... the "No Room to Dance" album, theeee album of the bands that would play at the Taj Mahal 1979-80.
