During the USSR I had heard Viens 3 or 4 times. The name of singer was unknown for me. Time flies, I knew the surname Laforêt. This song was written in 1973. I was born in 1972... Now Najoua presents the modern version of Viens. I think her work was good. Nobody stops the French songs...
I have listened to all of them and it has been an education about what's going on in Morocco. My favourite is definately Oum. Outside France and maybe Spain though they are little known in the West. And totaly unknown in Britain and the U.S. What a shame. They deserve far greater international recognition. Thanks so much for taking the trouble to point me to them.
I'm absolutely LOVING Oum. She is sensational. The Best - and most versatile singer I've hjeard in a long time .... The UK and America does NOT know what it is missing.
SUCH a talent. She's got it all this French lass. And a voice quite unique in the world - if not - you tell me who she resembles? Passion, ... adorable, imploring, yearning, heart choking, tear jerking, emotional resonance (with that breath catching vocal tecnique she employs). Leaves you quite breathless and gagging for more. The French have got a UNIQUE vocal treasure here. Are they all treasuring her? Is anybody else outside of France and Morroco and French speaking territoties? mmmm ... ?
I agree everchilez. French is beautiful... when spoken by the French. Most non-french are too heavy on the french "R". When the "R" is light and delicate then yes, french is quite beautiful.
Half Egyptian - half Moroccon. But interestingly - don't think she's much known in Egypt as she is in Morocco. That;s because Morocco was a French protectorate (effectively a colony) until 1956 I think ... whereas Egypt never was. But it's these ethnic/cultural influences that make her unique voice so BRILLIANT I reckon..
Thankyou for recommending Amel Bent, Sofia Essaidi. I particualrly like Amel Bent's voice. However they are completely unknown in the UK and America !! And only sing in French (and of course - that's understandable). Going to listen to the fully Moroccan singers now ...
yes I like Birdy ; her voice and her songs are beautiful :) I was sure you'll like Oum. We can only love her. her music is so creative and fascinating .
ok thanks,I'm from Morocco btw :) and I heard about this beautiful singer but i wasn't sure that she has Moroccan origins, and indubitably Morocco is known for its rich and various cultural heritage :) a+
You're welcome :) I'm glad that you like them. It's just a little, there is really in Morocco a huge and amazing music scene and it's worth discovering .
Very nice to meet you. To have such a unique & talented singer as Najoua (such a beauty too) must make you very proud as it is definately her half-Moroccan ancestry that has contributed to her unique voice, style, personality and looks. As far as I know there is no other Western 'pop' singer with such Moroccan roots. Please correct me if I'm wrong and tell me so i can listen to them. Also - let me know any other Moroccan Singers who you admire so i can listen to them. i would like to learn more.
well there is a lot of western pop singers with Moroccan roots: Amel Bent, Sofia essaidi for example but i'll give u the names of some wonderful singers here in Morocco: Oum she is my favourite actlly. She mixes pop, hip-hop and rhythm and blues in her songs. she writes in Moroccan dialect and English .I'm sure you're going to like her music. There is also:Ahmed Soultan ,Khanssa Batma a rock singer, Amina Alaoui, Joudia..the list is very longue.Just listen to their music & read a little abt them !
same origin, two complementairy ideas, that solved with contrariety and dilemna of existing within each two, created war, and that kind of comprehension of ourselfs language in the end... I am french.. je ne comprends pas l'anglais parfaitement, mais tu sais, you know... everybody tend to creatively pass through the idea of knowing somebody entirely, avec ces simplicités, qui rendent complètement accessible les pensées communes, entre nous...
Okay :) I forgot to tell you about an other singer called Hindi Zahra, She is very famous in Europe and in France in particular. Sophia Vigon, she unfortunately passed away 2 years ago at the age of 23. she had a wonderful voice :( There is a crew called Lazywalls a rock group, they sing in English also, Hoba Hoba Spirit a crew of Fusion they sing in Moroccan dialect & French .Hope u enjoy it :)

Éventuellement un trio avec le chanteur originel ?
I agree everchilez. French is beautiful... when spoken by the French. Most non-french are too heavy on the french "R". When the "R" is light and delicate then yes, french is quite beautiful.
