Thank you Mark. I am hooked on the paste. It really adds to a finish. You still need to have a well applied finish. But worth the effort to go one step more with the paste. Thanks for watching. Gary
Well! From a recycle bin to an amazing bowl by the hands of 'ThePapa'. This a brilliant piece Gary of turning which we have all come to expect from you Gary. I felt that I was right there with you as thought & worked your way through this piece. There is a real 'sense of discovery' in your videos as you expertly navigate your way through from start to finish. It is such a joy that you bring in working with wood that we all feel& experience. Wonderful grain in this piece of Mimosa as you expose the beauty within. The live edge & the inclusions work so wonderfully well & the finish is brilliant, using your own polish was a stroke of genius. Gosh, it takes your breath away as you showed it to us at the end. Stay well my friend, Don From South Aust.
Thank you Don it is a pretty special wood. I guess I missed out on all the big pieces but there is always another time. But I do still have some of the wood and should probably turn some soon. Today I was not able to navigate to where I wanted to go so I listen to what the wood had to say and I ended up on a better path than what I started on. The video will be in a few weeks. You will not which one it is as I state at the beginning of the issues. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care, Gary
Thank you Kobie and you are correct God's creations are all around us. We just need to look. Every time I turn a piece of wood like this I feel it is a true gift. Thanks for watching. Gary
Thank you David it certainly amazed me. I have some smaller pieces of the Mimosa and am looking forward to turning them. It is truly like opening a surprise gift. You just have no idea what is on the inside. Thanks again for watching. Gary
Thank you very much. Not sure if this one is the special piece or if all of Mimosa is like this. I also did an emerging Mimosa bowl which was real nice wood. I have a few smaller pieces left and will find out. Thanks for watching and commenting. Gary

Check out the things made for hairdressers and dog groomers for lightweight things that may work for protecting your clothes when you are turning. They are slick and don’t hang on to hair-or probably, sawdust.
That turned out waaay better than I thought it was going to, Gary! It's a great looking piece of wood but your lacquer finish and then the sanding paste made alll the difference. Wow, it's just beautiful, now! Great design choices as you went along, too. I'm really glad you left in that gnarly area. Good job, buddy! Keep'em coming! Phil
Thanks Phil I just wasn't sure where it was going when I first mounted it in the lathe. Nothing was making sense. I am really liking it when I have a nearly perfect bowl with a nice big gnarly spot. I know you like that and I think I picked that up from you. The tree company just left after cutting down the Sweet Gum and they knew I wanted the wood. They looked at me funny when I said NO I WANT that ugly piece LOL Thanks again Phil for your support and I have more to come. Gary
Thank you Tom very much. I have a few smaller pieces left and hope there is grain like that in them. We just never know and that is what makes it so much fun. Gary
So I don't remember what video it was but you were using a carbide cutter and you said it was grabby. I'm no authority and been turning less then a year but I had the same issue. I was told to grind a flat on the corner of the bar so your cutter is pointed downward. I tried it without the grinding and it does work. All my round cutters will have a flat corner from now on. Hope that helps?
Thank William. It may have been the Black Locust droop bowl I made. It was end grain and very hard wood. I ended up getting a negative take scraper. That would be similar to grinding a flat on the corner. I have been going to get some more bar stock and just cut the end on an angle to do the same thing. That will leave the square stock the same. Thanks for pointing this out. Gary
Gorgeous wood! When I first saw the piece, I thought it wasn't going to be much. Boy was I wrong! I made myself some of the same sanding paste. Haven't used it yet but if it works like yours did, then I will be happy. Thanks so much. Great job!
Thank you very much and you are right. That piece did not look like it had a chance. We just never know. The sanding paste should do the trick. I will have a video posted in the middle of the week on how I made it. About as easy as boiling water. Thanks again, Gary
Thank you Carol I really love that grain as well. I wish it grew on trees. Oh wait it does. We had a tree cut down today and the owner of the company said he would keep a look out for some Mimosa. That would be great. Ok I will post a video on the paste by the middle of the week. I already have it made and wasn't sure if it might be boring. So this will be a mid week bonus. Thanks again Gary
Absolutely beautiful, Gary. You told me your next project would have spectacular grain and you delivered! You're a man of many talents - woodturner, woodworker, metal worker and now polish compounder. I'm impressed.
