He went from this obedient pet, a captive for all his life, then when he finally had control of the situation, he was driven mad with power, and became this unstable, untrustworthy leader who rules by fear. Luigi, a minor antagonist, seems to be the exact same. Overshadowed by his brother for his whole career, he seizes the momentary chaos to attempt to finally overcome his brother. However, delving deeper into his character, you can see the difference between the two, which reveals the major themes of the film and Pikachu: The duality of man. Pikachu is a character corrupted by those around him, turned evil by society, captured and forced to fight, which ultimately culminates and is reflected by Shadowchu, who we'll touch on in a moment. Luigi, on the other hand, is a character born corrupt and evil. His reasoning for becoming mad is purely his greed and jealousy. He's clearly very naturally skilled with a sword and is unfazed slaughtering people, but he's not completely naturally corrupted; He's clearly a good kid deep down, just following orders. And speaking of orders, he's molded and shaped by his father whilst he's still young and impressionable, but he's not completely corrupted by those around him; He, unlike Pikachu, simply accepts that his father's word is final and he must do whatever he says. He is a lot more similar to Pikachu than to Luigi, however. Both are told what to do and forced to fight, but the key difference is that Pikachu fights back.
