Oh wow what a quaint place! Great video again my lovelies! 😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it Leanne, we had a great time there, even if the tower was a bit scary 😱😂
Fantastic video and a wonderful place to visit. We would have loved to meet up with you both again but maybe another time. There is so much history in this small town as you have discovered and you have done something that we have never done and that is to go up the church clock tower so thanks for showing us around.
Our town New Romney is another ancient Cinque Port town which now stands 2 miles from the sea due to the great storm of 1287. The River Rother which used to run through New Romney changed its course due to the storm and now drains to the sea as you mentioned at Rye which is 14 miles away from its original course.
Thanks for given us a mention which was wonderful and our very best wishes to you both.
Mark and Julie
Romney Marsh 😊👍
That must have been some storm!! And of course after 700 years it's hard to imagine how the coast looked in1286 before it all changed. The view from the Church Tower is amazing, but the steps are steep towards the top and the passageway is a bit of a squeeze 😱😂 We'd love to meet up again, even if it's just for a coffee or lunch. We'll let you know when we're visiting during school term, as not much free time when Max is at home 🤠👦😎 Hope you have a great week.
Now that’s my kind of town. The church is amazing and thank you for not looking straight down on the roof as I’m not good with heights either. The town has some amazing architecture. Take care and thank you for taking us around with you 😍🙏❤️
So glad you liked the town of Rye, Chris. We love it and plan to go back sometime as there's so much more to see. The tower was a bit of a struggle, but I can cope as long as I stay back from edges and shear drops, so stayed close to the slate roof and looked straight out rather than down 😱 Thanks for coming with us. Take care and have a great week, 🤠😎🐼
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons at least you did it, I’m claustrophobic and I REALLY don’t like heights either lol❤️❤️
❤Luv ya bunches, Caroline and Phil ❤
Thanks Jeannie... Hope you have a great weekend 🤠😎💖🐼💖
Phil you are my hero! What a harrowing climb you made so we could see the bells and the view. The history of Rye is fascinating, a beautiful place! Thank you.
Wow, I'm a "hero"! Thanks Hazel... I knew when I saw the bells and the narrow passage ways that this was a climb worth making, and the views weren't a disappointment. I'm so happy to know that you enjoyed seeing it too. Thanks for watching 🤠😎🐼
My favourite family place to visit , been there scores of times. Don’t go in when the bells chime😂 It will deafen you, fun though.
It is a wonderful town Anne, and I'm sure we'll be back as there's so much to see 🤠😎🐼
Another great video full of history and old buildings and houses and window shopping.. oh my gosh!!! the bakery windows full of all those delicious pastries.. just wiped me😋😋😋
Thanks Cathy... Glad you enjoyed the history and the tour, not to mention the pastries in the bakery window 😄 Thanks for watching 🍰🤠🍰😎🍰🐼🍰
Such an impressive church, stacked with sooo much history. And what stunning little cottages and houses. Just lovely. I hope you stopped for a hot cuppa and one of those delicious desserts xx Teresa ❤🇦🇺
Rye was an amazing place Teresa, and the treats were as impressive as the architecture, but sadly we didn't have time to stop for a cuppa this time 🤠😎🐼
Noooo, I could not do that. I have vertigo, no stairs/ ladders, no tights paces, claustrophobic. But you got guts. Beautiful church. Wonderful place. If you ever go down south, oldest working tide mill in Eling near Totton Southampton. You would enjoy that.
The climb wasn't a pleasant experience Annie, but thanks to the discoveries along the way and the view from the top it was worth it. 😱 Thanks for the suggestion of the tide mill, it sounds really interesting. 🤠😎🐼
@LetsgowithTheJohnsons Totton is very old, Totingas, I think, a tribe of people, I was born there, because of the river we had two tides. It is a small place, or used to be, I'm going back 31 years now. And you can buy the flour they make. I have not been back in 31 years, and there is a small beach where you can mudlark.
Great steady filming in such narrow hallways and steep stairways . Amazing place .
Thanks Bryan, but I have to share the credit with Caroline, because while she wasn't in the tower with me, she did a great job of the edit! It was an amazing place, thanks for watching 🤠😎🐼
This was an interesting and amazing tour you both gave a wonderful presentation! Rye is a beautiful town and the buildings are just gorgeous. The tour of the church was great, but to many tiny places to walk in. You did fantastic Phil with the filming and walking in tight spaces. Love seeing the bells 🔔 and the very top of the church. Again I couldn’t do it! Have a fabulous weekend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
Thank you Susan! We love being able to take you to the places you could never get too yourself, and knowing that you're coming with us makes the day even more special. This time even Caroline had to call it a day and stay down in the church, but she enjoyed seeing the bells and the view while doing the edit. Thanks for all you encouragement and most of all thank you for joining us on our adventures. 🤠😎🐼
Really interesting, thanks Phil for braving the heights to give us that view.
It was worth the climb Charlotte, so glad you enjoyed it too. Thanks for watching 🤠😎🐼
🙋♀️❤ Another fascinating vlog! Thank you both!
Our pleasure Margaret, thanks for watching 🤠😎🐼
I loved Rye! I've long thought of trying a short break there, and now I'm convinced I have to go, so it's been bumped up my list for sure! Thanks for a lovely look around and, as usual, Phil's excellent facts. Some gorgeous items in the shops too, for people with deep pockets. Ah well, I enjoyed looking with you! And Phil's climb up the tower, more than my knees can take nowadays too! So that was much appreciated. Visiting a belfry always makes me think of the painting I did for my 'O' level art, oh about 60 years ago.... taking a line from Tennyson's poem 'The Owl', ... "Alone and warming his five wits, the white owl in the belfry sits." And just as I was thinking this, there he was.... 🤣 So that was fun.
That's great to hear. We love it when a video inspires someone to visit a place, and we are confident you won't be disappointed in Rye, but you are right about some of the prices. 💰😱💰 We also love it when a video stirs good and happy memories, so thanks for sharing about the poem and the owl! Brilliant 🤠😎🐼
I really enjoyed this visit and have always wondered about the saying, "Scot free!" The bell tower was magnificent and I'm glad you were able to show it to us. I would never be able to go I there. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the town and the tower Joni. We love taking people to the places they could never see for themselves. And you learned where Scot Free came from too. Brilliant! Thanks for watching 🤠😎🐼
I really enjoyed this. What a beautiful place. Thank you so much.
We're so glad you enjoyed the tour of the town and the tower. It always makes a great trip even better, when we know others enjoyed coming along with us on RUclips. Thanks for watching 🤠😎🐼
What an incredible experience. Thank you
Our pleasure, thanks for watching 🤠😎🐼
On the fun side. Your picture here reminds me of the Shinning
WOW Phil, you are brave! I think those passageways would be too narrow for my brain to be able to comfortably be there! Great & interesting video. 🔔 🕰️ 🐼 💕
Brave or Barmy??? That is the question Michele 😂😱😂 I was surprised by how tight the passage ways were and how steep some of the steps got near the top. I would have been disappointed if I'd paid my £4 entrance fee to the tower and then found that I couldn't fit through! So glad you enjoyed the trip, thanks for coming with us. 🤠😎🐼
Brave steps Phil. Phew, I was shaking in my wellies right alongside you. LOL! I went up to a church tower in Venice where they warned you about being there when the bells were rung. LOL. It is so interesting to me how weather can change the land. I've always been fascinated by meteorological events. Thanks for the tours. I am back from my own vacations, so I am catching up on videos. Cheers guys.
Probably very noisy in the tower when the bells ring Laura 🔔😱🔔 The change the storms brought to Rye were very impressive, moving the sea so far from the port town. Nature is powerful! 🤠😎🐼
I really enjoyed this video! What a beautiful town - you did it justice.
Thank you so much! We're so glad you enjoyed the tour 🤠😎🐼
What a beautiful place! Such history! Lpove joining in on your adventures ❤
Rye is a beautiful place Angela, and we're so glad you enjoyed the trip. We love it when you come with us, so thanks for watching 🤠😎🐼
I can't imagine how Elizabeth Mapp managed those stairs and ladders to spy on Lucia in the Gardino Segretto!.
And all the BBC camera crew and equipment!! Perhaps they used a cherry picker lift, but if not, they had their work cut out! I was struggling with just a Go Pro on a mini tripod 😂 Thanks for watching 🤠😎🐼
What a quaint town! Sadly here in the States they tear old buildings like schools down and build newer ones. They say it's cheaper to build new and maintain but what happens to that history, all gone.
We have our fair share of lost history too Carol. 4 out of the 5 schools that I attended 50 years ago have been demolished. And the modern buildings they replaced them with are boring, ugly and won't last long! But I suppose we're lucky that there is so much history here that there's still a lot to see. Thanks for watching 🤠😎🐼
Know of Rye the grain, knows nothing of Rye the town - this'll be fun. 😀
It's an incredible town Ed, but there were some tight spots 🤠😎🐼
