I'm a flatlander, and I rode a summit 800. Everyone makes fun of me for riding an overkill sled for around here. But, whenever we got big storms, I would never see any trails broken for days. Drove me nuts. I would ask the local guys why isn't anyone out riding? "There's too much snow." What? That always blew my mind that there was too much snow..........for a snowmobile! This was back in the early 2000s. It's amazing to see what the new sleds can accomplish.

Well, you finally have some energy coming your way (read water/snow) from a solid fetch off the mid latitude eastern pacific, so you should get a couple days of fresh pow which I am sure will be nice. Be careful, between wind packing and the melt there will be the potential for a lot of moving snow. The bad kind of moving.

A thought, do beacon checks with the riders you are going out with and tell the channel why you are being extra sensitive to that now (because previous conditions + current conditions may = bad). Most of them are not jedi level tree riders like you and will want to emulate you, but on open slopes. They need to know why beacon checks and pits are important, particularly after the last two weeks of conditions you have had. Wind, heat, settling, make life above the trees dangerous if you don't know what you are doing and pit out.
I did it for skiing long before I did it for sleds, but it is more important for sleds.
Example, I skied for Warren Miller once, as an emergency guy upslope from the 'shot' as a kid (19). The guy ran across the face of Superior, Top of Little Cottonwood Canyon (Alta and Snowbird on the other face), and it broke a meter deep and 100m wide and by the time we got to him less than 2 min later he was dead, heart stopped by relentless tons of liquid concrete ice that bore down upon him and froze solid when they stopped. We all had peeps, could not get to him fast enough.
I have skied maybe 20 times as many hours as I have sledded, but I have seen four similar deaths on sleds. No one was filming, we all had beacons, but different groups have different ideas of what is safe in terms of avi danger and high marking in the Alaska range. We all got to them quick, they were all dead. We did save a lot of idiots too, but I don't remember them as vividly. My friends and I often got high marks in high bowls, but we never started avalanches. We never accidentally killed our friends that were below us, we also did not kill ourselves.
Nothing is more dangerous than a sled, and for the next couple weeks you have to look at them like riding chainsaws because of the conditions.
After it snows a bit and sets up do a couple pits and show them what to look for. The danger will be in abundance in the coming days/weeks, good time for some avi instruction.
(step one, make sure you can 'see' everyone's peeps or whatever the beacons are called now)
