Sounds like you have a dead cylinder. Could be spark plug, bad coil or a bad connection on the spark plug wire. Good job on cleaning the carburetor. Kohler command engines uses hydraulic lifters, so there is no adjustment to be made there, unless the lifter has gone bad, then it would need to be replaced. Sometimes a coil going bad can be intermittent or weak and can cause a misfire situation. Using an in-line spark tester is an easy way to test a coil. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for bringing us along on your projects. I have been told that having a low idle can be bad for the engine. It can slow down the oil movement and parts of the engine can be under lubricated if you let it idle for too long. Good luck with the machine. And thanks again for bringing us along.
does sound like timing to me. But also machines like that are meant to be used and if they are not used they have a tenancy to go bad. Seals start to go bad, gas goes bad, carb gums up cause the gas separates and hoses will go bad as well.
John, before I looked at what anyone else had to say, when I first heard it start up I thought it sounds like running on 1 cyl. I would have used starting fluid in my case brake cleaner and a car battery charger instead of waiting a day to finish I would have had it going in 10 minuites. You did a fine job on the carb. Now I would pull plug wires 1 at a time while it's idling to see which one is missing.
I’ve used the Kohler command engines for a while now they are overall a good engine however they have a plastic governor gear down inside where the oil slinger is and if that starts going bad it’ll do symptoms like you’ve got there,,,I’m not saying that’s 100%what it is however,,,sometimes hard to start ,,,may backfire,,, Idols a little out of whack,,or has a miss to it,,, however could be dirty carb ,,fouled spark plug,,, if you want to be sure about that carburetor run some seafoam through it when it’s running it’ll smoke like hell but also clean it out,,,That’s the issues I personally have had with mine if the engine goes bad don’t sweat it find someone that knows what they’re doing and have them put a harbor freight predator on there a cheap engine but they’ll probably last a good long time for a very small price unless you can find a good used engine somewhere,,,Also check that little fuel filter

That makes a lot of sense about the idle. Glad you're enjoying the ride. This one was a ride for sure.
Carb still dirty? Sounds kinda like it's being choked a little.
There's more to the story for sure. Tune in next week. :-)
Cool series I look forward to it!
Maybe the timing is little off or the valves need to be adjusted....
You guys are really good at this stuff. I kept focusing on the carb but there was more to the story.

Yes
Sounds like nuts and bolts inside the engine
seems good great video thx
There's more to the story.
have you already figured the rest of it out or is it a work in progress?
I finished this one a few weeks ago. I'm not going to divulge the answer until the last video though. Keep them wanting more.
haha sounds good
Sounds like you’re running on one cylinder or the choke is stuck hard to tell in video
I'm going to post the next part of the series Friday but since it's been forever since I posted one I'll tell you you're right on the money.
CTSCAPER cool look forward to is as I’ve been out of work all week with the flu...I’m running out of RUclips content lol
Not a fun week! I hope you feel better soon.

I wish I had your ear Gordon. I totally missed that but that darn engine knocks so much I feel like it's easy to miss.
Did you find the problem?
You got a weak cylinder?
You're on the right track. There's a surprise at the end of this one series.
I’d check the spark plugs. To me it sounds like one may not be firing.
You're onto something there....
I'm going with leaking head gasket or valve adjustment issue
You guys are good at this. Let's see who's right.
You should have primed carb before trying to crank it

Sounds like a single and not a twin cylinder....... I think you've just dropped a plug lead....
You're onto something there.
