  • In this video, I show you how to remove the little push nuts found on power wheels, radio flyer wagons, little tykes, and other kid toy vehicles. These can be both easy and a pain, even if you know how to do it. hopefully, this will make it easier for you to remove them if you follow my help.

    I am trying to remove a wheel from a Honda Pressure Washer, and after fighting unsuccessfully with the push cap (and slightly bending the rim!), I found your youtube. I laughed until I cried with your barely controlled frustration; especially after your casual comment “you may have to use excessive force.” Amen, brother!

    so here you have a guy that is trying to help. He is so kind to us to the point that he is doing the job with just one hand and filming with the other.
    Then you have a bunch of A...H.... counting the time he pants or thinking that this is the wrong way to do it. Then go and make a video showing us a better solution!
    If this guys was in person in front of you, you would be grateful to him for just taking the time. But since through the internet nobody knows your identity you think this gives you the right to be rude.
    What kind of society have we become. We even stone the folks that try to help.
    And by the way - it did work for me and my kid's wagon is now repaired

    One thing that helped me with the push nuts was drilling out the area between the tabs.
    The push nuts pissed me off so much I drilled the axles for cotter pins.

    My Pushnuts were deep in a well of the wheels on a hand truck, and were TIGHT! I got a hammer and a punch, and used it on the spaces to hopefully split it, but in punching it, it flattened it, changed the shape somewhat, then I used the hammer and punch at an angle to turn the Pushnet on the axle, which loosened it more, then used the wheel as a battering ram to bring it completely off. The other wheel was more stubborn, so with the punch, I used 3M oil to lube the axle and channel lock pliers did the rest. LOL, I was about to order $30 of tools before I saw this video! My thanks to the Lord, and to this poster; the above didn't work for me, but inspired me to improvise, saved me time and money. Many thanks!

She had seen the box already so I needed it done quick. Watched this video and had it done it two minutes.

    You got it off and people got a real good look at what the nuts and axle look like. They're not expensive, so who cares if they ruin them. I just looked and Lowes has a bunch - many sizes.....plastic, zinc plated, different colors. I lost my paint key years ago, forgot about it, and after watching this I WILL be getting one, SOON.

    Just a quick comment(and certainly not meant to be disrespectful.....i learned a LOT from your video)! If anyone wants to salvage those plastic red caps, just GENTLY pry around the edges...very slowly....with a flat-head screwdriver. They come off pretty easily if you are patient. I had to do this because I didn't want to spend the money to buy new ones on eBay or the RF web site. (I realize that you weren't planning to save yours...so that's why you sorta ripped them off!) Loved the tip about the paint can key/beer opener!! Thanks, again, for your video!

    Look at the radioflyer website, "slash helpful-hints" and the video there for removing hubcabs. I watched it, said "no way", went down to the garage with a hammer and flat-blade screwdriver, and after six taps, my locknut slid right off using my fingers, just like their video. Amazing.

    Radio Flyer says to bend the tabs on the pushnut with a screwdriver. We bought a newer plastic red wagon at a yard sale for 5.00 with a broken wheel. I am going to try and use an old push mower wheel to repair. The mower wheels are slightly smaller so I may replace each one in the rear so as to keep it ev3n.

    You can buy push nut at any hardware store. The factory plastic caps may not fit back on tho. But probably much easier than going thru RF.

    • @valeriegriner5644
      @valeriegriner5644 6 лет назад

      Robert Clark: you can find the plastic caps on eBay...if you have lots of money to waste. I'm refurbishing an old Radio Flyer red wagon....and just the rust remover, enamel paints and other re-do items have cost quite a bit. I may try to re-use the plastic ones I took off and perhaps coat them with red enamel paint and a clear-coat finish. I DO hope I can find the correct "push nuts"....if I mess these up. I hope they are standard sized....since the guy in the video said that the axle rod is not a standard size. (I'm a female, so forgive me if I don't know as much about tools as you do!) Thanks for any advice!!!

    Grab the base of the push nut with pliers and rotate it counter-clockwise. It will come off just as if it were a threaded nut. Use a deep well socket to tap it back on.

    Very helpful...thanks so much. I wonder if you can buy new "push nuts?" (Those things you have to flatten out.) I'm a woman...so don't laugh at my lack of proper tool "terminology." I'm refurbishing a 28 y/o red Radio Flyer wagon that belonged to my daughter(giving it to my great-nephew).
    HELP...HERE'S MY PROBLEM....I can't get the rusty nuts/bolts out.(Slotted side is in the wagon bed....nut side underneath the wagon). I have sprayed them many times with WD-40 and Liquid Wrench...and a few have come off. How do you get down into the rusted threads to loosen them? I have used my socket wrenches...but the whole thing just spins around. Would naval jelly help? Any advice would be appreciated. (I don't have a blow torch, by the way)...just a few hand tools.

    • @76hotrodF250
      @76hotrodF250  6 лет назад

      Hi Val, is it ok I call you that? Well unfortunately if the rusty bolts are just freely spinning, you might have to cut them out. I'd recommend a dremel with cutoff wheel as thats about the cheapest solution unless you can get a hacksaw in there and cut the nuts off flush with the underside of the wagon bed. You could also try drilling straight through the top of the bolt with a large bit. Any questions or concerns feel free to ask.
