Nice one Lou! The blue one was absolutely stunning. I love your enthusiasm and passion for snakes. When you find what you want to see your like an excited kid on Christmas morning. I love it.
WIndow shopping for the bluest of the blue garter snakes is a constant activity when herping the wetter places of the PNW (also orangest of the orange ordinoides, or green granite ordinoides). Pickerengii is nice, but I think Concinnus is prettier if you get down to the Willamette Valley/Portland region. Wish you had let me know you were coming to town, but obviously you did great on your own. Yes poison oak, "leaves of three, let it be".
I grew up just south of Seattle. Caught garter Snakes throughout my youth. Then moved to Utah. The Puget Sound snakes SOOOO beautiful! I remember the various greens, yellows, blues I would find. Now I am stuck with these Utah ones......
@@loub747 I'm a friend of Northwest Herping Outdoors :) I'm pretty sure I think I know where you are in this video, but that's a long hill to start going down, would probably have to go through old tunnels to figure it out.
Kind of morbid but I did see a blue garter once on the north side of Lake Erie. It was dead due to a lawn mower a few days prior, and I think that it was turning blue as a result. Has anyone seen this effect? I remember seeing crayfish from our creek turn blue when decomposing.
Yeah, a lot of green snakes turn blue upon death. Not sure about others. I have a video from Hong Hong showing a green snake with blue patches on it. Very strange
Lou they tend to be more along Fresh Water Streams as opposed to the Salt Water ive seen ton's of them as I resided in the Renton Highlands before i came to Thailand! You gotta be still and/or quick to catch one as they do bolt when they see or sense you!.......55555555 Thanks for sharing !

Ian! I forgot you lived in the Seattle area. I'll be back. New job. Left flying 747's after 30 years. Now fly private jets. More destinations!!
@@loub747 Haha! I hope it treats you well sir, congrats on the shift! Such a clever way to expand your herping territory. :)
Beautiful 😍 🤩
Thanks. Couldn’t believe my eyes. Lou B
Only blue snakes around me are the Eastern Garters in Central Florida. But it's more of a greenish blue than true blue.
I’ve heard there are some blue garters and ribbons along the west coast of Florida. I’ve never been. Maybe someday! Lou B
@@loub747 Yeah, around Saint Mark's National Wildlife Refuge
Didn't realize it until now but Garter Snakes (especially the SF) look like Boom Slangs... (color notwithstanding)
Yeah, they sure do from the right angle. I always thought that too. Lou B
Those are amazing snakes. The NW garters are pretty crazy to see! Tough decision, do I video or grab the snake? LOL
Nice job lou!!
Just amazing video
The reserve there looks like paradise
Thanks. It sure was.
Lou, That thing is amazing! Congratulations bud!
Thanks so much Brian. Appreciated

Yeah, sure are some pretty ones in the Seattle area!
Nice blue garter snakes and nice relaxing green and watery habitat. Is this in Oregon?
It's actually a bit north in Washington State.
Yes that is poison oak! The black and red moth is a cinnabar moth. Their caterpillars eat tansy ragwort a nasty invasive weed here in the PNW.
Thanks for the IDs! Never seen that moth before. Pretty. Good times.... Lou B
@@loub747 Thanks for showing us the world.🙂
That blue garter was amazing- just the boring eastern garters here in Georgia and they always take a stinky dump on ya lol
Yeah, this one was special. There’s something about a blue snake. Not sure what it is exactly, but I dig em! Lou B
Garters are about the only thing I ever caught as a kid. Had no idea they had that color variant out west. Amazing!
Yeah, so many color variations depending on locale. Love the blue ones! Lou B
That blue came through on the video, I can only imagine what it looked like in person. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome. Thanks for the comment. It was so blue! Lou B
@@loub747 I used to have a Florida Blue Striped Garter that was more of an aqua color than pure blue.
Look for things like wintergreen plants, they like to stretch out on top of them and soak up the sunlight.
I appreciate the info! Can't wait to get up that way and have another look. Lou B

Snakes are just awesome…the colors and patterns are so interesting. Much more interesting than humans😊. The second one you caught was turquoise.
I know right. Second was was so perfect.
Yes that was poison ivy because the saying is leaves of three let it be😊 that snake was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful❤
Yeah, I’m not sure that rule always works. That said, I err on the side of caution. Yeah, couldn’t believe the color on that one! Lou B
I love the woods up there in Washington. I was not aware of the Puget Sound garter snake.
Yeah, great area in the summer. I found out about those snakes about ten years ago. Knew I had to find one someday!
Fantastic catch. She is beautiful. I use to live in the area years a go and never found any thing that beautiful.
Thanks. Feel so lucky to have seen this beauty.

Yeah, not a lot of blue species.
Been looking for a good herping channel. I'll have to herp for those Puget sound's when I return to the san juan islands again.
