All very fascinating. Shawshank Redemption is without question my favorite Columbia movie. I've seen it 15-20 times and it never gets old.

There is speculation that the Columbia logo depicts the Babylonian goddess Ishtar, who is worshipped by occultists as theLight Bringer

My favorite Columbia Pictures movies is The Tingler, Ghostbusters, and Stand By Me. My favorite tv show that was produced by Columbia Pictures Television was Designing Women, Days of Our Lives, and Facts of Life (which was originally by T.A.T. Communications, Embassy Television/Communications)

"My favorite Columbia Pictures movies is The Tingler, Ghostbusters, and Stand By Me."
Mine are The China Syndrome from 1979, White House Down from 2013, and Bullet Train from last year (the last two having Joey King [former as Emily Cale, and latter as Prince]).

    Missed some big ones:
    1. the studio had a unique relationship with Chicago crime families and seemed immune to union labor issues
    2. the character of "Jack Woltz" in "The Godfather" is based on Harry Cohn. The character refuses an order from the Godfather and wakes up with his favorite horse's head on his bed
    3. Walt and Roy Disney worked with Columbia briefly before launching their own studio and distribution network
    4. Columbia survived the worst period for film studios (1958 to 1970) even as more prestigious studios like MGM went to the auction block. Columbia launched ScreenGems to get revenue from TV at a time when other legacy studios were afraid that doing TV would cheapen their brands. Columbia was uniquely well positioned for syndicated TV because they had a big catalog of serial films. During the 1960s thru 1980s the studio was a major hub grinding out hits like "Bewitched" "I Dream of Jeannie" "Facts of Life" "The Monkees" "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and many others
    5. the studio bought property in the Valley and built huge sets for Frank Capra's big budget "Lost Horizon" (1937). That property went on to host all the exteriors for Partridge Family, Giget, Bewitched, Flying Nun, High Noon, and Marlon Brando's breakout hit "The Wild Ones"
    6. Columbia developed both "Batman" and "Superman" as serials in the late 1940s and 1950s -- two franchises that are worth over a billion dollars each today.

2 of the 3 films released by Columbia Pictures were filmed in Detroit Michigan and were box office successes.
    1. The Karate Kid 2010( the rest were filmed in China).
    2. The Ides of March.
    3. White Boy Rick(the rest was Las Vegas and mostly filmed in Cleveland). This film received mixed reviews.
