  • Join me as I go searching for one of Britain's' favourite winter migrants, the Bohemian Waxwing. This wildlife walk takes me around Kelling Heath and Holt Country Park in North Norfolk.
    Aside from the Waxwing, I also manage to spot some other British wildlife including the Non-native Grey Squirrel, a male Chaffinch and a hovering Kestrel.

    I've seen some crossbills but never a waxwing! Great video of the waxwing, especially catching it drinking out of the puddle!

    liam, lovley vid..i remember the first time i saw waxwings i had never seen or heard of them before, they were in a flock in a tree,i was just memorized by them, beautiful,i like your little smile when your trying to take in the map..lol..i take a photo of the map on my phone before i head off on the walk because 5 mins into the walk,im so obsessed by all the nature around me,i totally forget what the map said..so i just do that now and its handy if you want to change the route cos your following an animal or getting late..thanks for this..love your channel

      Thank you very much. I can’t believe it was so close to the car park too! In the past I have missed the local flocks and this year there weren’t any near me.
      If you enjoyed this video, you might also like the one I’ve just uploaded about other wintering birds :)

    Waxwings are brilliant. Colourful little things in the warmer months, they are somewhat a scourge to my old friend who has a garden full of various berry trees.. She views a waxwing year with mixed feelings.. A lovely little bird, but more than two pairs and guess what? NO BERRIES!! She tells me they can (and do) strip the entire garden of its fruit in a day.. Nice one Liam! 🌟👍

    Great video and great shots of the Waxwing. The 2020 politician hair style line put a smile on my face!

    Excellent spot! I had the privilege to see a small flock in a park called the Museum Gardens in the middle of York feeding on Rowanberries. I jumped into a bush to try and capture them, but alas didn't manage it. Very busy feeders. I have the memories though.

    So envious Liam! We have had both in Northern Ireland. Small numbers of crossbills are here all year but they are almost impossible to spot let alone film. I am told that we have very few waxwings this year because of the relatively mild temperatures. They are usually in a flock. I have only seen them a few times ever and never filmed them! Drat! Best wishes from Belfast.

    Nice find Liam. I've been fortunate enough to see flocks of Waxwings several times in the past 10 years. My very first Waxwing was seen in a tall urban hedgerow behind one of the optical practices I've worked in. I was just arriving back from a lunchtime sortie in my car and I spotted it as I was pulling in to park. I don't mind telling you that I utterly failed to moderate my language as I exclaimed to myself "F*ck me! It's a Waxwing!" Good luck in your quest for Parrot Crossbills. I've only ever seen the regular sort. 👍😎👍

      They are only a rare visitor here in the UK. Do they breed where you live??

    They are just beautiful I wonder if waxwings would ever come to Aberdeen where I live.

    • @AShotOfWildlife
      @AShotOfWildlife  3 года назад +1

      Yes, you are on the right side of Scotland for them. I think there are very few in the UK this year as its been such a mild winter. This could mean that a lot of them survive through until next year so perhaps the winter of 2021 will be a good waxwing year.
      Thanks for commenting on all my videos recently, I really appreciate your support.

      Aberdeen often referred to as a 'Waxwing Capital' where you are guaranteed to see Waxies in winter. This year (2023) seems to be a busy year for them - may be an 'irruption'.

    Hello Liam, I have subscribed and liked, but I wanted to ask where waxwings usually come? I live around the central midlands.

      Hello. I'm very sorry for the late response. Usually they are found along the east and north of the country but some years they spread all across. It isn't looking that good this year though unfortunately.
