Thank you so much for this wonderful review of a great pen. I've gradually fallen in love with vintage Sheaffers and on the hunt for a few, having used a Targa.
A very underrated pen. Thanks for showing. I have a II is a very nice copper-like finish, bought at LI show, MIB. Only Touchdown filling. Maybe I'll do a video. Nib is great. This pen is over $500 eBay. Non-Silver is $400 + on Amazon. I have some Parker Sapphire ink, I used it for a few years. Crazed my green transparent M800. Stopped using it.
Great review, thank you. I have a Legacy Heritage Deep Cut Palladium with a medium nib on the way. I hope the nib is anything close to as smooth as yours seems to be. Incidentally, the nib width designation is usually marked on the underside of the section, towards the barrel.
Great to see another review from you, bud! It’s been a while since you did one, I think, unless I missed any. Anyway, I have this pen. It’s one of my handful of every-day-carry fountain pens. Sheaffer was my gateway to the world of fountain pens. So, I owe them a debt of gratitude for that. And I have a half dozen old Sheaffer pens that I still love dearly and use often enough. The PFM is in my bucket list of desires. The Legacy I (isn’t there also a ‘II’?) is a splendid pen all round. I now wish I also had the all sterling silver one you reviewed here. I love this finish (one of my two Waterman Carene pens is a sterling silver one). The 18k inlaid nib is a double whammy of pure delight. Looks absolutely gorgeous. I don’t care for the squeeze type converter. I prefer and use the adaptor and push down method instead. Like all the Sheaffer pens I have ever used, whether with gold or steel nibs, they all seem to be especially smooth writers. The Legacy is a dreamily sublime writer. Your ‘F’ nib here appears to be nicely wet. Mine is an M that is also pretty wet and thick. Never used any Monteverde inks yet; this blue looks very attractive. I always liked having various good looking but solid blue/black/blue-black inks for every day use. Thanks again for the review...of another very wonderful and worthy fountain pen.
What I Ink ...darn, how strange! I always get an alert for your new vids. I think the last one I saw (and commented on) was your top review of the Colorverse ink box set. But oh, that was maybe a week ago. Anyway, how much do you reckon a Sheaffer Legacy may cost today if found in good condition and a sane price??
@@sajjadhusain4146 I think the materials make a big difference. A sterling one like this would clearly cost more than an acrylic one. I think a pen show is your best bet. My wife got this one at a show a few years ago for circa $200.
What I Ink ..Oh yes, the varied materials on these pens ought to be taken into account when considering prices. Alas, I don’t expect to see a decent pen show near where I live or travel to throughout the year. What else to do? eBay? Amazon? $200 for the one you reviewed here is a price I’d be willing to pay for a sterling silver Legacy. I’m actually seeking a PFM. Determined to have one before the year is out.
@@sajjadhusain4146 What I would do to watch eBay carefully until you see a pen that you like. For pricing purposes assume you're going to have to send it off to be professionally restored so make sure you factor that in.
@@matthewbeddow3278What I only know is that the new legacy series will be produced in china by Hero pen .co(most of the sheaffer and AT cross nibs are made by them today) As for PFM,It may just go
I found one of these at a good price, and broke my usual thing to not buy pens between June and September. It should arrive in about a week. Why am I only watching reviews after buying it? Nevertheless, I hope I like mine as well as you like yours. Also interesting about the converter. I think I have one of those, so I'll have to look into that!
I love the Balance. But I tried two of them and both of them were getting scratches on the inlaid nib. Maybe it’s the design maybe it’s the way I’m caping the pen.
Hello. Is there any converter that is compatible and can be used in a Sheaffer Legacy I / Legacy II fountain pen? As far as I know, the Sheaffer 96700 converter isn't compatible with the Legacy I / Legacy II models (it only is with the Legacy Heritage because this model lacks the internal mechanism of the Touchdown filler). Thanks.
gadgetstop321 ..If you ask me, I’d say I have never had a problem of getting fingers stained with ink using any of my 6 pens with inlaid nibs. I wonder if you perhaps move your fingers very low down the section as you write. Can’t think of any other reason for getting inky fingers with these nibs.
My wife has that problem and that's why she doesn't use pens with inset nibs. I think what's happening is that your finger is slightly wandering around while you're writing and touching the nib and/or feed.
@@WhatIInk I believe you're right. If there's not a defined division between the section and nib, my grip gradually creeps down too close to the nib. Interesting pen though and nice review!

I think the Penman inks did that to alot of pens... Hence the withdrawal from the market.
I use skrip cartridges in legacy
(really expensive in China!)
I have one of these, bought 20+ years ago, and used blue Skrip--but I remember that Parker Penman. I used Quink cartridges in blue back then.

Sheaffer has some great vintage pens... Wish sheaffer could bring back the pfm.....
I am with you there , the vintage go for silly money.

Thanks you for sharing . These are really nice pens , i do prefer the PFM but only by a whisker & the Legacy is easier to fix.
Yeah... The PFM is among the most challenging repairs that exist.

I watch reviews after buying as well (and not just pens!).
I have bought a ii 865 model by about 255usd last month(not in good condition, less used but electroplate has been broken )

Do you know how to polish (mirror finish) the black plastic section on this Sheaffer Legacy fountain pen?
Everything I know about polishing plastic can be found in my Esterbrook Restoration video.
