When it comes to first drafts, my process is the same as yours. Which is why I'm stuck right now too with my latest novel. Might give that the back seat and work on something else. 😫😫 It was great to hear how things are going with your project!

I like learning about other writers' process. Fun video! You're right, processes can be very different, but mine sounds a lot like yours, where my first draft is very solid. Not necessarily good, but not amorphous. All the components are there.
I hadn't thought about how writing in public could keep you focused. I used to sometimes write at the library. I write mostly now on my couch on a chromebook, which is too slow to hold anything fun or distracting.
I don't know about for the sake of the mystery, but my favorite hardboiled novels are Raymond Chandler's. If you haven't read him, you'll be blown away by his use of simile. James M. Cain is good, too, but for noir instead of hardboiled.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone in the way I draft! Also, thanks for the recs. My book is pretty noir, so I'll have to check out James M. Cain.

You’re almost at the end! 🎉🎉 Thinking I’m gonna put off my sci fi romance. Been thinking it might fit a visual storytelling medium more. So trying to figure what other story to write now.

@@ldjwrites For some reason I’m thinking webtoons though I’ve never tried to make one but I feel like it fits. I think the idea might be too slice of life and the small sci fi elements would be better shown visually than through just words. And the whole aliens living on earth like normal might be more believable visually like a comic can get away with certain things without too much logical scientific explanations

Hi, I would highly recommend reading Memory Man by David Baldacci. It's about a man who sees his family's dead bodies in the house (backstory/prologue) which then is connected to the school shooting that happens many years later, which then opens up the case again about who killed his family. It's fast-paced and highly engaging :D
