  • Telecentricity is an optical principle in lens design that is utilized to guarantee good measurements in gauging applications. Telecentric lenses (www.edmundoptic...) utilize a unique optical design concept to maintain constant magnification over a specific field of view and working distance in order to minimize perspective error. Join Gregory Hollows, Director of Machine Vision Solutions, as he compares standard imaging lenses to telecentric lenses in three distinct imaging examples in order to illustrate the importance of using the correct imaging optics and optical principles to obtain the best measurements.

The background music in our next set of videos won't be so loud, we promise.

I have one query regarding telecentric lens.
Ques:-1 ) major property of telecentric lenses in comparison to homocentric lenses
      2) differences in properties and design between them.
This question asked in my assignmentt.would you please help me with this?
      Thank u .

Thank you for letting us know that the background music is too loud. We'll definitely keep your feedback in mind for any future videos we do.

Thanks for the educational videos. These videos will be far more effective if the background drums are absent. They are too loud compared to the voice volume and are very distracting.

Great videos, but off the background music, since it's worldwide it's hard to list the people talking and music on the background, we are not in a pub drinking something and eating snacks.

And the loud background music adds what to the otherwise fine videao exactly?

Good video. But the background music is loud and distracting.

telecentric lenses are also great for maintaining the uniformity of illumination passing onto the surface of a filter.
Tilt angle of an optical filter, can greatly alter the output performance of the passing ray.

I am blown away by this. I had seen a video by Vsauce years ago where he described how we would perceive the world if our eyes only captured parallel light rays, which is essentially this. I found this idea very intriguing but didn't know it was actually possible! However, I still can't quite wrap my head around this... so does this mean you could make some sort of "super-telemacro lens" with this type of lens, allowing you to observe e.g. a butterfly from a mile away and it would be as if it were right in front of you? Or are there certain limitations to imaging distant objects?

He mentions objects that are "out of depth of field", ie, too far away, do become blurry.

I read about a camera doing the same thing, with telecentric projection, made of a large bunch of parallel straws with photographic paper behind. It was used used for artistic photos. When doing portraits, it avoids ugly perspective effect that happens when the model is standing close to the camera with conventional angle-resolving lens.

Would it be possible to make a telecentric reflector based optical system as opposed to a refractor based one?
What would be the practical issues?

Whoever decided to play music at that volume level during the lecture is not a good person.

I love this series--thanks. I am here for telecentric info as I am researching machine vision, but are there any other applications for these lenses in portraiture etc. besides machine vision?

lol yea the background music was definitely added by a person specializing in making videos rather than actual engineering and physics. The media guy is like "yeah! cool lab video let's put cool music!". Whereas the people actually trying to understand something really don't need that and it's just distracting...the content should speak volumes, not the volume of the music...
